Why did Skillworks contract with EBC/MassRecycle for this study?

(1)There is a strong interest in understanding the employment potential of

“green jobs” in Massachusetts. What’s the reality on the ground?

(2)There is a growing awareness that “green jobs” are not limited to those

in residential energy efficiency and renewable energy installation.

(3)Training and education institutions don’t know much about workforce

and training needs in the recycling industry, but want to learn.

Labor Market Intelligence: Methodology

• Economic Models– Good for current and projected growth, but cannot quantify other

needs• Executive Interviews

– Good for qualitative information, but are not representative, so cannot quantify data

• BLS data– Good structure and trend information, but static

• Employer Surveys– Contain some employer bias and are expensive but are well

suited to comprehensive analysis
