The 2013/14 Under 10’s, Bootlle Bucks and Bootle Juniors played out a‘derby’ in the final of the Litherland Junior Summer Futsal league lastweekend, and what a game it turned out to be.

The game had everything, passion, skills, desire, questionable refereeingdecisions, and finally, a penalty shootout..

The Bucks roared into a 2-0 lead within the first five minutes, through AdamBlanchflower and Harrison Beesley. However, there delight was short livedas Juniors talisman (or woman!) Emily Brough dragged them back into thegame, and Juniors eventually took the lead. Although somewhat against therun of play, the Juniors endeavour was admirable, and without the rock atthe back for the Bucks in Jamie Edwards, and goalkeeper Jack Miley, itcould well have been more.

However, the last ten minutes saw the Bucks gain a second wind, andShaun Miller latched onto a great ball from Harrison Beesley, and he coolyturned and placed the ball under the outrushing ‘keeper. But for a fantasticsave from Josh in the Juniors goal from Jack Reardon, the Bucks wouldhave stole it right at the death, but extra time and the dreaded penaltiesensued. The Bucks triumphed 3-2, scoring all three of their pens andpicking up the futsal trophy from the league they have topped from the start.

The original Bootle F.C. were formed in 1880 and played at HawthorneRoad. They were in fact Everton FC’s biggest rivals. In 1889–90 Bootlebecame founder members of the Football Alliance, narrowly missing outon the football league to the blues. That season was the mostsuccessful as we finished league runners-up, reached the quarter-finalsof the FA Cup, where we lost to Blackburn Rovers (0-7). When theAlliance merged with the Football League in 1892, Bootle becamefounder members of the new Second Division. However, despite arespectable 8th place final position, the club dropped out after oneseason (and were replaced by neighbours Liverpool) and seeminglydisappeared due to financial problems.

Football returned to Hawthorne Road when a new club, Bootle Athletic.was later formed with the new team initially playing in the LiverpoolLeagues. In 1948 when the club were elected to the LancashireCombination 2, which was won at the first attempt. However, Bootlestruggled in the top-flight and after several tough seasons withdrew andfolded during the 1953–54 campaign.

In 1953, the current club was formed as Langton and played in the localleagues. After a very successful spell in the Liverpool CountyCombination (which we won on numerous occasions) the club revertedback to it’s It’s better known identity of Bootle F.C. in 1973; and a yearlater joined the Lancashire Combination, which we won in 1976 and1977. Bootle then joined the Second Division of the Cheshire CountyLeague, which was won in our first season, and we were promoted tothe First Division. In 1982 the Cheshire County League was one of theleagues that merged to form the North West Counties League, whichBootle duly joined, becoming a member of the First Division. The clubspent most of their time in the First Division until 2000 when weunfortunately dropped into the Second Division. However, despitefinishing 6th in 2002, the club dropped into the Liverpool CountyCombination. In 2006 the club, with a new ground, were elected backinto Division 2 of the North West Counties League. In 2009 Bootle wonpromotion to the NWCL Premier Division and also won theChampionship. In 2009/10, our first season back in the NWCFL PremierDivision Bootle finished a NWCFL highest placing of 3rd. In 2010/11finished 6th place. They equalled the 3rd place again in 2012.

The youth set up is getting stronger by the year with numerous teams inmost ages, and also football coaching for all ages and abilities. Aloswith the ground grading and plans for further improvements; plus theclub gaining charter standard status in 2011 the club are looking tohave it all in place to progress to the next level

Good afternoon and welcome to theDelta Taxis Stadium for our first game ofthe season and welcome to our visitorstoday Colne.

And so a new season is upon us, and yoursupport is vital as we want to improve onlast seasons placing. The league is ourpriority as always and we want to win it.

Pre-season is all about fitness and althoughresults have been somewhat topsy-turvy this has mainly been due to thenumber of new faces and getting them to fit into our style of play. Theresults don’t bother me at all during pre-season, as last year we didn’twin a pre-season game but went on an unbeaten run up to Christmasand there is no reason why we can’t do that again.

I believe we now have an even stronger squad than last year and Ibelieve we will be challenging come the end of April.

Signings like Tom Peterson from Fleetwood, Matty Harris fromSouthport, James Riley from Morecambe, Tom Grice and Liam Learyfrom Vauxhall Motors as well as the under 18’s who have stepped upsuch as John Cheetham, Joel Powell and Billy Smart have strengthenedthe squad, much of which is the same as last year, except Kurtis Gillwho has unfortunately gone back to Congleton due to travel issues.

To win this league we must be positive throughout the whole club, fromthe volunteers, the committee, to the coaches and the kit men. It is theonly way we will do anything.

On a final note I wish our chairman Frank Doran a speedy recovery fromhis illness. Up the Bucks! Princey

The Secretary’s WelcomeHello and welcome back to Delta Taxis stadium to all our loyal supporters and ColneFootball Club's players staff supporters and committee. During the close season Ihave had a lot of time to think about last season and although I believe on the wholeit was successful, 3rd place in the league and a Liverpool senior cup final (more onthat later) I would be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed on the last day of the seasonwhen I realised we hadn't done enough.

The early part of last season the players under Neil's guidance really came out of theblocks well and I'm hoping for the same this season but as we all know it's marathonnot a sprint and I am hoping that the disappointment that was felt last year can beharnessed in the correct way to drive the players on this season. During preseasonwe have seen a fresh influx of players to the squad and I am intrigued on how theteam will shape up today. I am looking forward to watching some new players andalso looking forward to reacquainting myself with some good friends.

Last years games with Colne were very enjoyable to watch although not great for uswhen we were turned over at their place 2-1 during the last few weeks of the season.Colne are good team and I expect them to be up there again this season. Today'sgame will be difficult but they always are on the first game of the new season all I canhope for is that leave the pitch knowing we gave everything we had, of we do that Iwill be happy.

I’m already looking forward to Tuesday's trip to Runcorn Linnets in what what will beanother cracking game.

During the close season we have had further developments within the club to updateyou all on.

Frank Doran Jnr, our chairman is still undergoing treatment for Non HodgkinsLymphoma he is in good spirits and is very strong willed as many of you know sohere's wishing him a speedy recovery so I don't have to write these welcomesanymore.

Bootle Football Club is also proud to announce its new partnership with Merseyrailwhich has seen the formation of a new ladies team "Merseyrail Bootle Ladies" willcompete in the Liverpool county FA Women's league and our home games will beplayed here at Delta Taxis Stadium on Sundays at 2pm Entrance is free so pleasecome down and support the team. We are also recruiting for our girls under 10s teamso if anyone wants to get involved please let me know. We will be holding a Gala dayon Sunday 1st September for our ladies section so please come down and show yoursupport. We will have bouncy castles, live music and plenty of football that day.

I hope everyone enjoys what is the most exciting day of the year for me in terms offootball and here’s to 3points and great game.

The ground was enclosed for the first time in 1975 when Colne Dynamoesjoined the Lancashire Combination. At this time the area was shared withcricket, and grading difficulties arose when the Lancs Combination becamethe NW Counties League in 1982 as the club was unable to comply.

The next three years however, saw rapid development, with three coveredareas, new dressing rooms, and floodlights all in place by 1985. A new standwas built the following year and in 1987/88 Dynamoes won the FA Vase andalso took the League title, and with it promotion to Division One of theNorthern Premier League.

Further developments followed as the club became full-time, and wonpromotion as champions in 1988/89. A third successive championshipfollowed but despite all of the developments Holt House was still unable tomeet Conference grading requirements, and the club folded during the closeseason.Fortunately Colne Royal British Legion FC & Rock Rovers FC took over theground, until Colne Legion resigned from the East Lancs League in 1995.The newly formed Colne FC became the grounds third residents on theirformation in 1996.

Colne F.C. were formed in January 1996, by a group of like-minded people underthe wing of Mr Dave Blacklock. The enthusiasts combined their strengths andknowledge of non league football, and arrangements were made for a new club touse the vacant Holt House Stadium, once used by the Dynamoes, in the NorthWest Counties Football League Division Two.

Colne FC’s first ever competitive game was on the 17th August 1996 against Middlewichand the result ended in a 1 – 0 defeat. The team was then managed by Keith Mason, butafter his resignation soon after, Denzil Hart was appointed to the hot seat. His first gamewas a 6 – 0 defeat away at Ashton Town, but just two games later Colne FC recorded theirfirst ever victory thumping Bacup Borough 5–2. The highlight of the season coming whenthe reserves won the BEP Cup at Clitheroe’s Shawbridge ground. The clubs fourth seasonwas eagerly awaited, but in September 2000 manager Hart left the club by mutualagreement. Player John Lister was placed in temporary charge and his appointment wasmade permanent a month later. Lister learned lessons from this campaign and in 2001/02finished 14th .

In the summer of 2002 James Webster took control of the club, to become the youngestchairman in the league at the age of 24. James was a player at the club with plenty ofexperience and along with his father who was vice chairman, had a strong desire to seethe current side emulate the success of its predecessors.Season 2002/03 started well enough, but in December 2002 John Lister resigned asManager. Paul Lynch took over as manager and the improvements continued, but inAugust 2003, Paul was offered the position of manager at Unibond side Rossendale Unitedand subsequently left. Webster responded immediately by appointing Nigel Coates as thenew manager as well as player Gary Rishton as his number 2. Nigel had played for theDynamoes, being in the FA Vase winning team and had experience of management atlocal rivals Nelson.

Season 2003/04 brought back the glory days to Colne with a string of successes. In theLeague Colne had to play catch up after a successful cup run, but ended the season 10points clear in Division two, scoring 102 goals in their 38 games. They completed thedouble by winning the Division Two Trophy 1 – 0 over Great Harwood. The season wascapped by an amazing run in the FA Vase which saw them reach the Semi finals beforebowing out 4 – 3 on aggregate to AFC Sudbury. As the season progressed attendancesstarted to rise as the local population realised they were no longer the whipping boys of theleague, and the infamous RED ARMY was formed. Colne took little time in adjusting to lifein the First Division, another FA Vase run and a creditable 10th place was secured in 2004/05 Consolidation has followed and the current team has achieved Colne FC’s highest everleague position Their 2007-08 season final position of 5th is the highest they have so farreached. The club has recognised the need to provide continuity and as such has begun aprogram of development, commencing with the first youth team who reached the final ofthe Blackburn league in 2003/04 season then becoming the reserve team competing in theNWCFL Reserve division for the last couple of years. Winning the Cup double in their firstseason and reaching the semi final of the Hospital Cup the following year. All the whilesteadily improving and at the same time providing new talent for the first team to harvest.

Season 2009/10 started slowly with the team languishing 5th bottom of the Vodkat leagueat Xmas. However an amazing run of one league defeat in 2010 saw the Reds climb tofinish a respectable 8th in the league with a very youthful squad. Manager Nigel Coates willbe hoping to build on this for season 2010/11. Season 2010/11 provided furtherimprovements in the fortunes of the club. The reserve team accredited themselves well inthe Galaxy Lancashire league reaching the West division cup final. The first team had asuccessful season finishing in a creditable 5th place in the league. The squad from2010/11 are available again and manager Nigel Coates and his team will be looking tofurther enhance the clubs reputation.

Finance and commercial director of Merseyrail, Paul Bowen has alsoexpressed his delight in the partnership: ‘I’m delighted that at Merseyrail haverecently joined forces with Bootle FC and embarked on the first steps towardsbuilding a football academy for the ladies game in the heart of Liverpool. Theladies game has seen a surge of interest in recent years, and this new ventureaims to promote the sport amongst the youth of the Bootle area, engagingclosely with schools and other community groups.’

‘Despite the growing interest, it is still a massively underfunded game, andwhilst young girls can play with boys teams until the age of 14, beyond thatthere are very limited opportunities to continue their participation. The firststeps have been to establish an open age ladies team (over 16), based out ofBootle's Delta Taxi's stadium, playing under the name of Merseyrail Bootle.

An U10 team will be formed in the coming months, and the aim will be to then add the other agegroups (U12, U14, U16) over the next 2 years, subject to securing the required funding. This willcreate a much needed bridge between theenthusiastic children in the numerous local schoolsand the adult game.’

‘It will allow many girl's the same opportunitieswhich already exist in abundance for boys, to carryon playing post 14.’

‘On Sunday 1st September we will be holding our launchGala and I would really appreciate your attendance. Pleasefeel free to bring family and friends to the event, the more the merrier. Theground can hold several hundred people and we would like to see it full! There will be no charge to enter, but we will be asking for small donationsto support further growth of the girl's academy and youth teams. If you oryour organisation wish to make a larger donation, please feel free to do so!’

‘The ladies team will be a credible one, and will be entering the LiverpoolLadies Open Age league from September. Having watched them trainingon several occasions, I think we are in for a great day’s entertainment andsome high quality football. Joe Doran has really got the team enthused andunder his guidance I’m sure they will see future success.’

‘This venture shows the on-going commitment of both Bootle FC andMerseyrail to the community in which we operate. It will promote health andwell-being through community based sport, as well as the other benefitsgrass roots sport provides, such as social cohesion, inclusion, andproviding the players with a sense of self-worth and belonging. It alsopromotes women and girl's sport in the male dominated rail industry andprovides our own staff and their families with the opportunity to train andpossibly play within the various teams.’

Here’s to a great partnership for may years to come.
