Additional Documents required:Curriculum Vitae: this should include personal details, certified copies of your university transcript and a degree certificate, interests, travel or work experience and the names, contact details of two academic staff members in the University Department(s) which offered your final-year major subject(s); and if relevant a contact detail of employer/mentor. Letter of motivation: (no more than 750 words) submit a statement in your own words of why you are attracted to the urban design field, and what you hope to do with your qualification. Portfolio of work: Portfolio requirements are less than 20Mb in size and in PDF. The key elements are to show a design ability / competency and are encouraged to show design process, development and thinking behind your work; your personal approach to design / urban context, including your inspiration (either in photography, art, design, sketch book etc). It is necessary to include your responsibility of design projects and/or design role within projects in the portfolio, dates or timeframes worked on the project and potential outcomes / lessons. It will be important to show at least 1 digital (AutoCAD, sketch-up etc.) drawing and an approach to 3-dimensional modelling. Academic writing: your own academic writing that has been evaluated at your previous institution of study. You can include relevant research work or material that clearly illustrates your approach and interest.

FOR PROGRAMME INFORMATION: The one year Master of Urban Design (MUD) course is characterised by an interdisciplinary approach, a focus on the African City (and cities of the global South) with a strong social agenda, tied to the landscape. The aim is to explore cities for people, with people through active & responsible participative design methods & principles. Broad themes include:
Liveable cities: understanding the built environment at a human scale (walkable) city contextPeople cities: vibrant public space & placeInformal cities: the social function of landSafer cities: the public realm as a catalyst for social change
FOR PROGRAMME STRUCTURE:1 or 2 year programme: The course may be taken over 1 year full time or over 2 yearsextended time.
The focus in the first semester is an integrated Urban Design Studio with Master in Landscape Architecture and Bachelor of City Planning courses. Part A reviews the city context, Part B has the potential to go to another African City and explore concepts on the ground.
Urban Design Representation is also conducted in the first semester. Urban Design Research Methods takes place in Semester 1 in order to guide the overarching Urban Design Research Project within Semester 2.
