Accounting Two 16 credit-hour certificates are offered in Accounting for those advancing toward Certified Public Accounting (C.P.A.) or Certified Management Accountant (C.M.A.)status. These courses may be counted toward fulfillment of the Illinois C.P.A. Society 150-hour rule, and provide a concentrated sequence in accounting courses. They may also be applied toward the Accounting concentration for degree-seeking M.B.A. or Master of Science in Accounting students. The certificate in Accounting must be completed before the Advanced Accounting certificate.

Advanced Accounting The certificate in Advanced Accounting requires admission to the M.B.A. program as a degree-seeking student. Prerequisites for courses listed below are to be met in the M.B.A. program curriculum before completing these required certificate courses:

Business Administration This certificate program in Business Administration is designed for people in management roles who desire basic business skills and knowledge for career mobility and confidence. Four courses are required to earn the certificate and all four courses may be applied toward the M.B.A. degree provided the student is accepted into the M.B.A. program. Courses are offered each quarter so that students may enroll throughout the year.

The required courses are:MBA 500 Financial Accounting (4)MBA 510 Economics (4)MBA 520 Leadership and Ethics in a Global Environment (4) Note: One other four credit-hour course (or two, two credit-hour courses) of your choice in the M.B.A., Management Information Systems, Management and Organizational Behavior or Public Health graduate program is required.

Derivatives Trading The certificate program in Derivatives Trading is designed to prepare students for the Registered Commodities Representative (RCR) or Certified Financial Planner (CFP) license and/or prepare students to manage their own portfolios. Students will examine the most current credit

derivative products and strategies, and analyze them from an earnings, capital and risk-management perspective. They will explore total return swaps, credit default options, the use of futures and options contracts to hedge and reduce risk, as well as deal with the ethical issues and compliance issues related to regulation of derivatives trading.
