Question: How do I bring God into the work of my daily life?
Answer: Whatever your daily work, you have an opportunity to encounter God and to follow His commandments in love. In the New Testament, we see that most of the Apostles didn’t have a previous religious position. They were fishermen, tax collectors, and political activists. St. Paul was a tentmaker. Among the saints, we have doctors, lawyers, farmers, and stay-at-home moms. No matter your daily tasks, God can be present there!
One way concerns behavior. Start with an examination of conscience. Look at areas where you tend to struggle to imitate Christ at work. Do you gossip? Does brimming frustration become impatience at home? Pick one sin you struggle with, then choose a virtue to strengthen that area. If you tend to speak poorly of your co-workers, resolve to stop and to say one kind thing a day instead.
Another way relates to perspective, particularly your perspective of others. Jesus’ incarnation reminds us of the value of every human being. Jesus is God, and each of us is created in God’s image. When you encounter another person, you have an opportunity to see God in a new place and a new way — in that person in front of you. Genuinely listen to them and be present to their concerns. Loving your neighbor is loving God! Our relationship with God and the love He inspires in our hearts shouldn’t remain only at church on Sunday. We can — and should — let our faith animate our lives!
STEWARDSHIP
GOSPEL MEDITATION This Sunday’s Gospel contrasts two different religious attitudes. First, the self-righteous Pharisee. Here is a man who seems to impeccably follow the law. In some terms, he is the model citizen! Honest, fiscally generous, and faithful to his marriage vows. But something else lurks in his heart: pride. “O God, I thank you that I am not like the rest of humanity … or even like this tax collector.” For the Pharisee, no fault can be admitted. The only way to stay on top is to preserve one’s image — even to God, it seems! — and point out the flaws of others from the pedestal. In the back of the temple, hidden and bowed down, is the tax collector. “O God, by merciful to me a sinner.” This man’s prayer is one of supplication and petition. He isn’t afraid to express his sinfulness and misery. This, Jesus says, is the one who “went home justified.” How many times have we heard the mission of Jesus to seek and save the lost? Jesus is the one who dines with sinners and invites every heart to repentance. But how can we return to him if we don’t know we’ve left? How can we receive God’s grace when we’re adamant we don’t need it? We all have within us both the Pharisee and the tax collector. We want to be sure of ourselves and to be admired in the eyes of others. Yet we also know that we are not always what we wish to present to others. We can be preoccupied with our self-image and feel anxious about our flaws being exposed. Because we do have flaws, after all. We are the sinner in need of mercy. This Sunday, will we humble ourselves enough to ask for it?

PURIFIED . . . A Life-Changing Event for Families (Ages 13+) Why Purified? The Church teaches that parents are the primary educators
of their children. Therefore, the ideal way to transmit the message of chastity is in and through the family. Unfortunately, parents often don’t know where to begin this discussion, or they’re left out of the conversation altogether. Our goal with Purified is to work with you to bring the parents and teens together in an experience where they can both learn God’s plan for human love, and thus open up an opportunity for them to speak more
openly about this issue at home. Also included in the evening is a time of Eucharistic Adoration with praise and worship, and an opportunity for everyone to receive the sacrament of Reconciliation. This format transforms a simple motivational talk into an miniature retreat for the family, allowing them to encounter the source of purity, Jesus Christ.

RESPECT LIFE CORNER What are opioid pain medications? These are medications prescribed by doc-tors & dentists to treat moderate to severe pain. Common types are codeine, oxy-codone, hydrocodone, and morphine. Possible risk to your pregnancy include: Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome (NOWS): withdrawal symptoms - irrita-bility, seizures, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and poor feeding in newborns. Neural Tube Defects: serious problems in the development or formation of the fetus’ brain or spine. Congenital Heart Defects: problems how the fetus’ heart develops or how it works. Gastroschisis: birth defect of developing baby’s abdomen (belly) or where the in-testines stick outside of the body through a hole beside the belly button. Stillbirth: the loss of a pregnancy after 20 weeks or more. Preterm Delivery: a birth before 37 weeks. Many other medications are also danger-ous to your developing baby, we want healthy babies and mothers. Always consult your doctors and pharmacies be-fore taking medications!
