A WORD FROM FATHER DORE
Come to the Feast!
This weekend we are blessed with three readings that focus our attention on God’s invitation to “Come to the Feast”. This may seem somewhat out of sync with our present circumstances of COVID 19 restrictions that are limiting the number of people who are allowed at a given liturgy. Be that as it may, God’s invitation to everyone still stands.
In the first reading from Isaiah, the prophet tells us that God will provide a rich feast of wine and food for all people, and all will rejoice in the action of God that saves us.
In the Responsorial Psalm (our second selection from the Hebrew Testament), we are given one of the most well known and frequently used psalms by every Christian tradition. In this Psalm, the prophet (God) will spread the table out before me with an overflowing cup. Finally, in the Gospel, Jesus tells the third parable about the kingdom. You may recall that two weeks ago, it was about the two sons who were invited to work in the father’s vineyard. One said “no” but went anyhow. The other said “yes” but didn’t go. Last week, it was about a landowner who invited tenants to manage his vineyard. They thought it would be theirs once they killed the heir.
The parable today is about a king (God) who prepares a banquet for his son (Jesus) and eventually invites everyone to come to the feast. Those who initially received the invitation refused because they were too busy or had a better offer or whatever. In the king’s dismay, he sent his servants out to invite any and all to come to the feast. The banquet had overfilled.
As we get closer to the end of the Liturgical year, we can see a harsher tone to the parables because the leaders of the Jewish people refused the invitation in today’s gospel as did the one son and the tenants did in the gospels of the previous two weeks.
Especially in today’s readings, there is an eschatological dimension to the feast being celebrated. The end time (eschaton) is depicted as a banquet of great celebration and rejoicing by all those who accept the invitation. Our whole life is moving us toward the end time. God invites us and prepares the banquet. In other words, the time of fulfillment is open to everyone but guaranteed to no one.
During each of our lives, how often has God invited you and me to “come to the feast”, and how many times have we accepted the invitation or refused. We do not have to make a reservation, all we must do is accept what He is offering us!

Please enter the church from the south Melvina Street door (nearest the rectory) and exit through the Dakin Street door. Those with mobility issues may enter and exit through the Dakin Street door. Please follow instructions from ushers and greeters.

RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED FOR ATTENDANCE AT SUNDAY MASS
We are so grateful to be able to attend Mass again! This privilege is offered with a limit to the maximum number of people who can be in the church at one time. We must maintain records for the Illinois Department of Public Health of all who enter our churches for the purposes of contact tracing if and when a confirmed case of COVID–19 is identified.
Attendance is limited and reservations are necessary to attend Sunday Mass. A specific link is posted on our website. Your registration will be recorded on our reservation list and you will be checked in at the door.
Reconciliation, Private Prayer, Adoration and Daily Mass
A reservation is not required for Reconciliation, Adoration, Private Prayer or Weekday Masses. However, you must sign in and provide your contact information at the entrance door. You must also wear a mask and practice social distancing.

THOUGHTS FROM SEMINARIAN ANDREW
The wedding feast that Jesus speaks of in today’s Gospel isn’t just any wedding feast. It is THE wedding feast, and WE are invited. In the timeline of the parable, we find ourselves near its end.
With the arrival of Jesus, His passion on the Cross, and His resurrection from the dead, the feast has already begun. The doors are now open, and the guests are urged to enter. It particularly struck me that in the parable, that as the feast progresses, the sun sets outside. Eventually, no light remains save that which radiates from inside. By the end, everything and everyone that is good and holy has already found its place inside. Outside, we find only darkness, wailing, and grinding of teeth. Do we have this same sense of spiritual urgency in our lives right now?
As Christians, we must constantly remember that we do not live primarily for this world. While the created world is good and we can do many good things with our lives here, it is not meant to be our final home. We have all sinned, and without God the only fruit we can reap is death, corruption, and darkness. How fortunate we are that Jesus saved us from our sin and opened up for us the way to the Heavenly feast. In our Baptism, we were added to its guest list and were given our snow-white wedding garment. Hopefully, we are on our way to that feast and have kept our garments clean by living an authentically Christian life, avoiding sin, following Gods commandments, and growing in all virtues. If not, it’s time to visit the Sacrament of Reconciliation and get ourselves back on track. How terrible will it be if we never arrive at the feast, and worse yet, should we be kicked out by Christ, the bridegroom Himself! We need not live in the darkness: we are children of the light.
For Saint Pascal to continue to safely conduct approved church services, we need volunteers:
To greet people at the door and instruct them on the protocols for being in church (no fever, wearing face coverings, using hand sanitizer, keeping social distance, etc.)
To usher people to seats, direct the flow of people during the service, and ensure people leave through the proper exit
To clean the church after services end and everyone has left.
Of course, many hands make light work. The more people who volunteer, the less any one person would have to do. Training and all necessary supplies will be provided.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, and those 65 and older should make sure they feel well enough to help. To volunteer, please sign up online on the parish website or call the parish office (773-725-7641).

SACRAMENTAL CELEBRATIONS
The celebration of the sacraments is one of the most important gifts that we have, and we look forward to sharing these celebrations with those who are part of our community. Therefore, please note the following: INFANT BAPTISMS: Registration in the parish is a prerequisite. Parents are required to attend a Pre-Baptismal Preparation Session with the celebrant two months prior to the Baptism either in person or Zoom. Arrangements can be made at the Parish Office.
RECONCILIATION: Every Saturday at 9:00 AM
SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY: Either the bride, the groom, or the parent of either must be a registered and active parishioner for at least six months before contacting us to make any arrangements. Allow at least six months to complete wedding arrangements. Arrangements can be made at the Parish Office by the bride and groom.
SACRAMENT OF THE SICK: Anytime a person is facing a serious illness, surgery or hospitalization, it is proper to receive the Sacrament of the Sick. Please contact the parish office. If the office is closed please leave a message on a priest’s voicemail.
GLUTEN FREE HOSTS: Saint Pascal wishes all who are properly disposed to be able to receive the host at Communion time, and join with the others in our parish family without the fear of becoming ill. If you would like to receive a gluten free host, please add your request to the comment on the Mass Reservation sign up form so the priest is aware of your request
MINISTRY OF CARE - HOMEBOUND PARISHIONERS: Please notify the parish office if you know of someone who is unable to join us at Mass and would appreciate having the Eucharist brought to their home. Our Ministers of Care bring Holy Communion to those who are sick and homebound, when conditions permit. During the present health crisis we may not be allowed access to visit people in hospitals or rehabilitation centers, depending on the rules and restrictions of the individual facility, but our prayers go out to all of our parish family during these trying times.

It is incredible that the invited guests could refuse to come to such a significant and lavish banquet! But we are invited to a feast even more lavish and we, too, can fail to see its significance and fail to prepare ourselves. Our
everyday living is not inconsequential - even the little things we do are helping us put on our own wedding garment. Our continual conversions from sin prepare us for the feast of heaven.
During the first weekend of each month, the Saint Vincent de Paul Society will collect non-perishable food for its pantry. Items may be placed in the blue barrel outside the church building at the Dakin Street exit for those not

Next weekend, we celebrate World Mission Sunday. As Pope Francis reminds us, “God’s question: ‘Whom shall I send?’ is addressed once more to us and awaits a generous and convincing response: ‘Here am I, send me!” (Is 6:8) World Mission Sunday calls us to solidarity with communities of faith that are young, struggling or economically strained around the globe. Please pray for our brothers and sisters in faith and be generous in next week’s collection to support the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. Practice Detachment How attached are we to our own political views? Are our political views formed in the light of the Gospel?
Saint Ignatius tells us that the purpose of life is to “praise, reverence, and serve God…”. He suggests, to be faithful to this purpose, we must leave aside unhealthy attachments that might get in the way of loving God and neighbor.
Especially in this polarized era, we can be so attached to our political opinions, that political ideologies can often shape our moral framework, instead of the Gospel. Catholic social teaching provides a guide for our political priorities consistent with the defense of human life and dignity.
Detachment means trying to stand in the shoes of those who have very different opinions than we do and trying to understand their motivations, their worldview and their pain. It is only by letting go of attachment to our own narrow perspective that we might be able to find the common ground which is the first step toward reconciliation.
Detachment from our own views should not diminish our passion in working for justice, or in speaking out on issues that are close to our hearts.
How detached am I from my political beliefs? Am I truly open to the possibility that some of my views may not be perfectly in line with the Gospel? How can I become more open, while also remaining committed to core principles and values?
