Dua Mashlool – www.Duas.org Pg 1 The Supplication of the Lame Man.

This supplication is also called “the supplication of the young man punished for his sins.” Being recorded in the books of al-Kaf`am¢ and the book of Muhaj al-Da`aw¡t, this supplication has been taught by Imam `Al¢ Am¢r al-Mu'min¢n (`a) to a young man who was paralyzed due to the wrongdoings and sins that he had committed against his father. After he said this supplication, the young lame man slept and saw in dream that the Holy Prophet (¥) came to him and passed his hand over his body saying, “Hold on to the Greatest Name (alism al-a`¨am) of Almighty Allah and your deeds will be good.” When he woke up, he found himself healed from lameness.

The supplication is the following:

bismi all¡hi alrra¦m¡ni لرحيمٱ لرحمنٱ ٱلله بسمalrra¦¢mi

In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.

all¡humma inn¢ as'aluka سمكٱب لكٴاسٴا إني للهماbismika

O Allah, verily I beseech You by Your Name:

bismi all¡hi alrra¦m¡ni لرحيمٱ رحمنلٱ ٱلله بسمalrra¦¢mi

In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.

!y¡ dhaljal¡li wal-ikr¡mi O Lord of majesty and honor إلكرامٱو لاللجٱ ذا يا

!y¡ ¦ayyu y¡ qayy£mu O Ever-living! O Self-subsistent قيوم يا حي يا

y¡ ¦ayyu l¡ il¡ha ill¡ anta نتٴا إال إله ال حي ياO Ever-Living! There is no god but You!

y¡ huwa y¡ man l¡ ya`lamu هو ما يعلم المن يا هو ياm¡ huwa

O He Whom none knows what He is,

,wa l¡ kayfa huwa nor how He is هو كيف وال

,wa l¡ ayna huwa nor where He is هو ينٴا وال

!wa l¡ ¦aythu huwa ill¡ huwa nor in what respect He is, but He هو إال هو حيث وال

y¡ dhalmulki walmalak£ti لملكوتٱو لملكٱ ذا ياO Possessor of dominion and kingdom!

y¡ dhal`izzati waljabar£ti لجبروتٱو لعزةٱ ذا ياO Possessor of might and invincibility!

¡y¡ maliku y¡ qudd£su y مالس يا قدوس يا ملك ياsal¡mu

O King! O All-holy! O Giver of peace!

y¡ mu'minu y¡ muhayminu مهيمن يا مؤمن ياO Granter of security! O All-preserver!

¡y¡ `az¢zu y¡ jabb¡ru y رمتكب يا جبار يا عزيز ياmutakabbiru

O Almighty! O All-compeller! O All-sublime!

O Creator! O Maker! O Shaper!

y¡ man lam yalid wa lam y£lad يولد ولم يلد لممن ياO He Who begets not and was not begotten,

wa lam yakun lah£ kufwan حدٴا كفوا له يكن ولمa¦adun

equal to Whom is none,

,wa lam yakun lah£ ¥¡¦ibatun Who has no consort صاحبة له يكن ولم

wa l¡ k¡na ma`ah£ waz¢run with Him is no aide وزير معه كان وال

£wa l¡ ittakhadha ma`ah مشيرا معه تخذٱ والmush¢ran

nor has He taken any adviser,

,wa l¡ i¦t¡ja il¡ ¨ah¢rin nor needs He any assistant ظهيرى إل حتاجٱ وال

wa l¡ k¡na ma`ah£ min il¡hin غيره هلإمن معه كان والghayruh£

nor with Him is any god but He—

.l¡ il¡ha ill¡ anta there is no god but You نتٴا إال إله ال

لظالمونٱ يقول عما فتعاليت

كبيرا علواfata`¡layta `amm¡ yaq£lu al¨¨¡lim£na `uluwwan kab¢ran

So exalted are You above what the evildoers say, a great exaltation!

O All-high! O All-lofty! O All-towering!

O All-opener! O All-diffuser! O All-restful!

¡y¡ mufarriju y¡ n¡¥iru y منتصر يا ناصر يا مفرج ياmunta¥iru

O Bestower of relief! O Helper! O Giver of victory!

¡y¡ mudriku y¡ muhliku y منتقم يا مهلك يا مدرك ياmuntaqimu

O Comprehender! O Destroyer! O Avenger!

O He Who never becomes annoyed at requests

!y¡ b¡ri'a alnnasami O Maker of the breaths of life لنسمٱيا بارئ

O He upon Whose Throne no foot treads!

!y¡ j¡bira al`a¨mi alkas¢ri O He Who sets broken bones لكسيرٱلعظم ٱر يا جاب

!y¡ f¡kka kulli as¢rin O He Who releases every prisoner سيرٴايا فاك كل

y¡ mughniya alb¡'isi alfaq¢ri لفقيرٱلبائس ٱيا مغني O He Who enriches the miserable pauper!

y¡ `i¥mata alkh¡'ifi almustaj¢ri لمستجيرٱلخائف ٱيا عصمة O He Who safeguards the fearful seeker of protection!

O He Who governs and determines!

O He for Whom the difficult is simple and easy!

O He Who gives life to every soul after death!

!y¡ `uddat¢ f¢ shiddt¢ O my Provision in my hardship يا عدتي في شدتي

!y¡ ¦¡fi¨¢ f¢ ghurbat¢ O my Maintainer in my exile يا حافظي في غربتي

!y¡ mu'nis¢ f¢ wa¦dat¢ O my Intimate in my lonesomeness يا مؤنسي في وحدتي

!y¡ waliyy¢ f¢ ni`mat¢ O my Sponsor in my blessings ي في نعمتييا ولي

¢y¡ kahf¢ ¦¢na tu`y¢nلمذاهب ٱيا كهفي حين تعييني almadh¡hibu

O my haven when the ways make me weary,

wa tusallimun¢ al-aq¡ribu when relatives give me up قارب ٴالٱوتسلمني

wa yakhdhulun¢ kullu ¥¡¦ibin ويخذلني كل صاحبand when every companion forsakes me!

turn away from me every care, grief and distress,

wakfin¢ sharra m¡ l¡ u§¢qu طيقٴا الكفني شر ما ٱوprotect me from the evil of that which I cannot bear,

wa a`inn¢ `al¡ m¡ u§¢qu طيقٴاما ى عني علٴاوand help me in that which I am able to bear!

O He Who caused Jesus, the son of Mary, to ascend and delivered him from the hands of the Jews!

O He Who answered Jonah's call in the darkness!

O He Who saved Noah from drowning!

¡y¡ man ahlaka `¡dan al-£l ى ولٴالٱهلك عادا ٴايا من O He Who destroyed `ªd, the ancient,

¡wa tham£da fam¡ abq ى بقٴاوثمود فما and Tham£d, and did not spare them,

;wa qawma n£¦in min qablu and the people of Noah before وقوم نوح من قبل

innahum k¡n£ hum a¨lama wa ى طغٴاظلم وٴاإنهم كانوا هم a§gh¡

certainly, they were most unjust and more rebellious,

¡walmu'tafikata ahw ىهوٴاؤتفكة لمٱوand al-Mu'tafikah, He also overthrew.

y¡ man dammra `al¡ qawmi قوم لوط ى يا من دمر علl£§in

O He Who destroyed the people of Lot

wa damdama `al¡ qawmi قوم شعيبى ودمدم علshu`aybin

and crushed the people of Shu`ayb!

y¡ man ittakhadha ibr¡h¢ma تخذ إبراهيم خليالٱيا من khal¢lan

O He Who took Abraham for a friend!

¡y¡ man ittakhadha m£s كليماى تخذ موسٱيا من kal¢man

O You Who took Moses for an object of His words,

عليه ى اللهتخذ محمدا صلٱو

جمعين حبيباٴاوآله وعليهم

wattkhadha mu¦ammadan ¥all¡ all¡hu `alayhi wa ¡lih¢ wa `alayhim ajma`¢na ¦ab¢ban

and took Mu¦ammad, may Allah bless him and his Household, for a beloved!

,y¡ mu'tiya luqm¡na al¦ikmata O He Who gave Luqm¡n wisdom لحكمةٱؤتي لقمان يا م

walw¡hiba lisulaym¡na mulkan لواهب لسليمان ملكا ٱوand bestowed upon Solomon a kingdom

l¡ yanbagh¢ li'a¦adin min حد من بعدهٴينبغي ال الba`dih¢

such as may not befit anyone after him!

ىلقرنين علٱيا من نصر ذا

لجبابرةٱلملوك ٱy¡ man na¥ara dhalqarnayni `al¡ almul£ki aljab¡birati

O He Who gave Dhul-Qarnayn victory over the tyrannical kings!

y¡ man a`§¡ alkhi¤ra al¦ayata لحياةٱ لخضرٱى عطٴايا من O He Who gave al-Kha¤ir (eternal) life

لشمس بعد ٱورد ليوشع بن نون

غروبهاwa radda liy£sha`a bni n£nin alshshamsa ba`da ghur£bih¡

and returned the sun to Joshua, the son of N£n, after its setting!

y¡ man raba§a `al¡ qalbi ummi ىم موسٴاقلب ى يا من ربط علm£s¡

O He Who strengthened the heart of Moses' mother,

wa a¦¥ana farja maryama بنة عمرانٱحصن فرج مريم ٴاوibnati `imr¡na

and guarded the virginity of Mary, the daughter of `Imr¡n!

من ابن زكريى ييا من حصن يح

ذنبلٱy¡ man ¦a¥¥ana ya¦y¡ ibna zakariyy¡ mina aldhdhanbi

O He Who fortified John, the son of Zachariah, against sins

¡wa sakkana `an m£s لغضبٱى وسكن عن موسalgha¤aba

and calmed the anger of Moses!

¡y¡ man bashshara zakariyy ىيا من بشر زكريا بيحيbiya¦y¡

O He Who gave Zachariah the good news of the birth of John!

ذبح لٱمن إسماعيلى يا من فد

بذبح عظيمy¡ man fad¡ ism¡`¢la mina aldhdhab¦i bidhib¦in `a¨¢min

O He Who ransomed Ishmael from the sacrifice with a mighty sacrifice!

y¡ man qabila qurb¡na h¡b¢la يا من قبل قربان هابيل O He Who accepted the sacrifice of Abel

!wa ja`ala alla`nata `al¡ q¡b¢la and placed a curse upon Cain قابيلى للعنة علٱوجعل

ى حزاب لمحمد صلٴالٱيا هازم

عليه وآله للهٱ

y¡ h¡zima al-a¦z¡bi limu¦ammadin ¥all¡ all¡hu `alayhi wa ¡lih¢

O He Who routed the parties for Mu¦ammad, may Allah bless him and his Household!

alli `al¡ mu¦ammadin wa ¡li¥ محمد وآل محمد ى صل علmu¦ammadin

(please do) Bless Mu¦ammad, the household of Mu¦ammad,

لمرسلين ٱجميع ى وعل

لمقربين ٱومالئكتك wa `al¡ jam¢`i almursal¢na wa mal¡'ikatika almuqarrab¢na

all the messengers, Your archangels,

!wa ahli §¡`atika ajma`¢na and all those who obey You جمعينٴاهل طاعتك ٴاو

لك بها ٴالة سٴابكل مس لكٴاسٴاو

حد ٴاwa as'aluka bikulli mas'alatin sa'alaka bih¡ a¦adun

I beseech You the supplication of every one who has besought you

ممن رضيت عنه فحتمت له

إلجابةٱ ىعلmimman ra¤¢ta `anhu fa¦atamta lah£ `al¡ al-ij¡bati

and with whom You have been pleased and thus decided to grant his request.

!y¡ all¡hu y¡ all¡hu y¡ all¡hu O Allah! O Allah! O Allah للهايا لهلايا للهايا

¡y¡ ra¦m¡nu y¡ ra¦m¡nu y رحمنيا رحمنيا رحمنيا ra¦m¡nu

O All-merciful! O All-merciful! O All-merciful!

!y¡ dhaljal¡li wal-ikr¡mi O Lord of majesty and honor إلكرام ٱل و اللجٱيا ذا

!y¡ dhaljal¡li wal-ikr¡mi O Lord of majesty and honor إلكرام ٱل و اللجٱيا ذا

!y¡ dhaljal¡li wal-ikr¡mi O Lord of majesty and honor إلكرامٱل واللجٱذا يا

¢bih¢ bih¢ bih¢ bih¢ bih¢ bih¢ bih به به به به به به بهBy Him! By Him! By Him! By Him! By Him! By Him! By Him!

سم سميت به ٱبكل لكٴاسٴا

سك نفas'aluka bikulli ismin sammayta bih¢ nafsaka

I beseech You by every Name with which You have named Yourself

aw anzaltah£ f¢ shay'in min من كتبك شيءنزلته في ٴاو ٴاkutubika

or which You have sent down in one of Your scriptures

لغيب ٱثرت به في علم ٴاستٱ وٴا

لذي عندكٱaw ista'tharta bih¢ f¢ `ilmi alghaybi `indaka

or kept for Yourself in the knowledge of the Unseen with You,

wa bima`¡qidi al`izzi min لعز من عرشكٱوبمعاقد `arshika

by the junctures of might for Your Throne,

wa bimuntah¡ alrra¦mati min لرحمة من كتابكٱى وبمنتهkit¡bika

by the utmost limit of mercy from Your Book,

من رضٴالٱ في ما نٴا ولو﴿ وبما

مالقٴا شجرةwa bim¡ wa law anna m¡ f¢ al-ar¤i min shajaratin aql¡mun

by the fact that, “though all the trees in the earth were pens

سبعة بعدهمن يمده لبحرٱو

بحرٴاwalba¦ru yamudduh£ min ba`dih¢ sab`atu ab¦urin

and the sea - seven seas after it to replenish it,

.m¡ nafidat kalim¡tu all¡hi yet the words of Allah not be spent ٱلله اتكلم نفدت ما

”.inna all¡ha `az¢zun ¦ak¢mun Allah is All-mighty, All-wise ﴾حكيم عزيز ٱلله إن

wa as'aluka bi-asm¡'ika ى لحسنٱسمائك ٴاب لكٴاسٴاوal¦usn¡

And I beseech You by Your Most Excellent Names

allat¢ na`attah¡ f¢ kit¡bika :لتي نعتها في كتابك فقلتٱfaqulta

that You have described in Your book thus saying,

دعوهٱفى لحسنٱ سماءٴالٱ ولله﴿

﴾بهاwa lill¡hi al-asm¡'u al¦usn¡ fad`£hu bih¡

“To Allah belong the Most Excellent Names, so call Him by them!”

wa qulta ud`£n¢ astajib lakum ﴾لكم ستجبٴا دعونيٴا: ﴿وقلتAnd You said: “Call upon Me and I will answer you.”

عني عبادي لكٴاس وإذا: ﴿وقلت

بقري فإنيwa qulta wa idh¡ sa'alaka `ib¡d¢ `ann¢ fa'inn¢ qar¢bun

And You said: “And when My servants ask you concerning Me, then surely I am very near;

¡uj¢bu da`wata aldd¡`¢ idh ﴾دعاني إذا لداعيٱ دعوة جيبٴاda`¡ni

I answer the prayer of the suppliant when he calls on Me.”

لذينٱ عبادي يا قل: ﴿وقلت

نفسهمٴاى عل سرفواٴا

wa qulta qul y¡ `ib¡diya alladh¢na asraf£ `al¡ anfusihim

And You said: “Say: O My servants who have been prodigal against yourselves;

.l¡ taqna§£ min ra¦mati all¡hi do not despair of Allah's mercy ٱلله حمةرمن تقنطوا ال

inna all¡ha yaghfiru اجميع لذنوبٱ يغفر ٱلله إنaldhdhun£ba jam¢`an

Surely, Allah forgives all sins.

innah£ huwa alghaf£ru ﴾لرحيمٱ لغفورٱ هو إنهalrra¦¢mu

Surely, He is the All-forgiving, the All-compassionate.”

,wa an¡ as'aluka y¡ il¡h¢ And I ask You, O my God إلهييا لكٴاسٴانا ٴاو

,wa ad`£ka y¡ rabbi I call You, O my Lord وك يا ربدعٴاو

,wa arj£ka y¡ sayyid¢ I please You, O my Master رجوك يا سيديٴاو

كما ييا موال يطمع في إجابتٴاو

يوعدتنwa a§ma`u f¢ ij¡bat¢ y¡ mawl¡ya kam¡ wa`adtan¢

and I desire for You to respond to me, O my Protector, just as You have promised me—

¡wa qad da`awtuka kam يتنمرٴاوقد دعوتك كما amartan¢

for I have called You just as You have commanded me.

¡faf`al b¢ m¡ anta ahluh£ y هله يا كريمٴانت ٴاما يفعل بٱفkar¢mu

So, do to me what is worthy of You, O All-generous!

wal¦amdu lill¡hi rabbi لمينلعاٱرب للهلحمد ٱوal`¡lam¢na

All praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.

محمد وآله ى عل للهٱى وصل

جمعينٴا

wa ¥all¡ all¡hu `al¡ mu¦ammadin wa ¡lih¢ ajma`¢na

May Allah bless Mu¦ammad and his entire Household.

Then you may pray Almighty Allah to grant you your personal requests and they will be granted, Allah willing. According to the narration mentioned in Muhaj al-Da`aw¡t, one must say this supplication while being in a state of ritual purity.
