It was a wonderful day of celebration and prayer. A big thank you to our Assistant Principal Religion Education, Maree Wright, for her coordination of the Liturgy alongside Dolores Maitland, Assistant Principal Religious Education at the College. Thanks also for the generous donations of food, which was gratefully accepted by Mr Hans Van Mosseveld on behalf of the local chapter of St Vincent de Paul. The children had a great time in their day of fun activities. They participated in games, danced away at the Disco, enjoyed a sausage sizzle, and even had time to jump around on the jumping castles. A fantastic way to show our wonderful school spirit, and celebrate Marymount Day. Yr 6 Southern Trip – Canberra We wish all the best to our staff and children who head off on Sunday for the annual Southern Trip. This is always a highlight of the children’s years here at Marymount and provides invaluable learning experiences. On behalf of our whole community, we extend thanks to the staff who have already invested many hours preparing for a safe and enjoyable trip. We also thank the families of the staff attending who no doubt need to make some adjustments to family life during this time. Catholic Athletics and Ballgames Last Thursday our children participated in two carnivals – Catholic Schools Athletics and Catholic Schools Ballgames. The children performed magnificently on the day, and were a credit to our school and to you as parents. Results overall were amazing. We managed to finish in 1st Place at the Athletics, and finished 2nd in Ballgames. A special thanks to Paul Hill, who organised the Athletics, and Dwayne Thorburn who organized Ballgames. Thanks also to all the staff who attended on the day or helped with coaching over the last few months. Children Absent from school If your child/children are absent from school due to illness, appointments or holiday plans, it is important that you contact us and let us know that morning. This can be done by phoning the school on 5535 1803 and choosing Option 1 from the phone menu. You can also use the Parent Portal and the Report Student Absence tab. It is a safety concern, so that we know that your children are at home, and have not gone missing in transit. This is really important and helps ensure that children are exactly where we all think they are. Beginning next term if you have not notified the school by 9am, you will receive an SMS to contact us and please explain. This is to ensure the safety of our children. Leaving Marymount Primary at the end of the year If your child/children are not returning to Marymount Primary in 2017, could you please let our office know either through a phone message (55351803) or via email on pburleigh@bne. catholic.edu.au. This of course does not apply to our Year 6 children, who will be completing their Primary education at the end of the year. We have a number of families who are keen to enrol in our school, and many of our classes are at or near capacity. By letting us know, we are able to more effectively plan for classes, resourcing and staffing for the future. Thank you for your anticipated help with this matter. Have a great week. Marymount DayLast Friday the Primary school and College came together to celebrate Marymount Day through a combined school Liturgy of the Word. The liturgy was lead by our Parish Priest, Fr Ken Howell and we also welcomed visitors from our local Burleigh Heads St Vincent de Paul conference, with Hans Van Mossveld addressing the students on behalf of the conference. A special thank you to Paul Faughey and Jodie Young from the College and Mark Wilkins for leading the College Choir with such vibrant music. Thank you too to the teachers and students who were involved with dance, dramatisation of the Gospel, reading and procession. Also to the sound and lighting crew, groundsmen, and Visual Arts department, thank you for all that you did to make this liturgy for Marymount Day a wonderful celebration.

Each year our schools collect groceries for St Vincent de Paul to redistribute to those in our community in need. It was a wonderful sight watching in excess of 80 baskets leave the Doyle Centre to be loaded onto vans to help those in need.

After the liturgy, the students continued to celebrate Marymount Day with a disco, jumping castles, rotational activities and a sausage and drink for lunch. Thank you to Vicki, the Learning Support staff and other helpers who cooked in excess of 1100 sausages to feed the children. The children’s donation of $5 has raised close to $4500, which will be presented to Fr Ken at a future assembly to support the purchase of the Mary, Mother of Mercy statue for our new church.

Mass - Nativity of the Blessed Virgin MaryTomorrow we will again come together as a whole school to celebrate Mary’s birthday. This is a special feast day for our school as Mary is the patron of Marymount. Fr Ken and Mrs Crowe’s Year 5 class will lead us for this celebration in the Doyle Centre at 9.00am. Our Primary School Choir under the direction of Mark Wilkins will lead us in song, along with the support of Cathy Carroll (Burleigh Heads Parish) on the organ and Cameron Saliba on drums (College student). All parents and relatives are invited to join us for Mass as we celebrate this signifi cant liturgical feast.

Mission Mass - St Brigid’s Church NerangToday twenty Year 6 students represented Marymount Primary joining all Catholic schools on the Gold Coast to celebrate World Mission Month, a time where we show solidarity with children in need around the world. This is the fi rst time a Mission Mass has been held on the Gold Coast, with the theme for this year’s World Mission Month being, “Just as you did it to one of the least of these…you did it to me” (Matthew 25-40). Congratulations to these students for their leadership and participation in the Mass.

Canonisation of Mother TeresaOn Sunday Mother Teresa became Saint Teresa of Kolkata, nineteen years after her death as she was canonised by Pope Francis in Rome. Mother Teresa is recognised globally for her work with the poor and marginalised in the slums of Kolkata. She displayed a deep humility and great love for those people who throughout the world live in extreme poverty. It is fi tting that Mother Teresa became a saint in this Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy, as she truly displayed mercy in action. The pontiff described Mother Teresa’s work as “eloquent witness to God’s closeness to the poorest of the poor”. Saint Teresa pray for us.

Sacramental ProgramThe Burleigh Heads Parish is now beginning to implement the revised Sacramental Policy of the Archdiocese of Brisbane, released in 2015. Year 3 children who have been baptised are now invited to enrol to prepare for the Sacrament of Confi rmation which will be celebrated Wednesday 16 November this year, followed by First Holy Communion in June 2017. The preparation process will begin after the school holidays. A letter of invitation from Fr Ken with an attached enrolment form has been sent home with all children in Year 3.

A parent information session regarding the revised Policy was held today with another session being held tonight at 7.00pm, at Calvary Church, Miami. Registrations for this program close Friday 16th September. Further enrolment forms are available from the Parish Offi ce or Parent Reception at Marymount. If you require further information you can contact the Parish Offi ce on 55766466 or myself on 55208406.

Enrolment forms can be returned to the Parish Offi ce or alternatively to Parent Reception to be forwarded to the parish. This is a wonderful opportunity for our Year Threes as a cohort to begin to complete what is known in the church as the Sacraments of Initiation that began with Baptism. I hope that all our children and their families in Year 3 give prayerful consideration to enroling in this next phase of their faith journey.

Blessings for the week.

Maree Wright

It is that time of year again when we need to look at uniform requirements for 2017. Whilst we try to ensure suffi cient stock to meet demands, some items/sizes always sell out fast. We will be open each school day in Term 4 until 30 November and then re-open 16 January 2017. If you do not want to take the risk of stock being unavailable or want to spread the expense out, you can layby the uniforms using the Order Form attached to this newsletter. You can nominate whether you want the items by end of Term 4 or start of 2017. A minimum deposit of $20 is required for all laybys. A payment slip has also been included with this newsletter if you are unable to come into the Uniform shop.

Uniform shop will be closed Friday 16 September, last day of Term for stocktake.

Total Football Academy will be running an after School soccer program during Term 4 at Marymount Primary School. The program is for Prep to Year 4 pupils. Registration forms will be distributed during a free demonstration.

During the 6 week program games will be played inside an infl atable soccer fi eld, which captures the imagination of students, giving them a great soccer experience. Training will take place inside a skills square focusing on different skills each week, such as dribbling, turning and shooting. As part of the program players can also purchase a soccer kit (Top and Shorts).

The program starts on Monday 24th October, 3.15pm - 4.15pm. To sign up online visit www.totalfootballacademy.com.au or call Danny Morton on 0473 344 778. Find us on Facebook for wet weather information and special offers.
