WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE?

I think it is a common question for children to ask their parents: “Who is your favorite?” Everyone like to be the favorite. Favorite child, favorite sibling, favorite coworker, favorite neighbor. In a world of over 7 billion people it is nice to know that to at least one person, you are the one preferred to all others. Everyone enjoys the benefit of preferential

treatment. “I don’t normally do this, but for YOU……” The Psalm this Sunday reminds us that God does not have favorites.

The LORD is just in all his ways and holy in all his works. The LORD is near to all who call upon him, to all who call upon him in truth.

God is near to all who calls upon him. He doesn’t only hear the prayers of his favorites. He is not only near to those whom he prefers. He doesn’t only choose to love only those who are the most holy. He is near to ALL who call on him. While we might like to think that God prefers those people that we prefer, or listens to those who think like me, that is not the case. What He reminds us is that, like any good parent, God’s love is multiplied over numerous children, not divided between them. This fact is spelled out in the parable that Jesus shares with his

followers in the Gospel to those who are envious that the landowner is generous. God’s generosity toward others in no way makes his love for us less. In fact, it shows us even more that his love is

without limits. So with that in mind, we know that God is always very near to us and hears every one of our prayers. He is never outdone in generosity and is the God of ALL.

God Bless, Father Mark Pavlik

PRIESTHOOD SUNDAY September 27, 2020

The last Sunday in September has

been designated Priesthood Sunday, a special day set aside to honor

priesthood in the United States. This nationwide event is coordinated and sponsored by the USA Council of

Serra International. It is important for our priests to know

how much they are appreciated and that we are keeping them in prayer.

There are many ways to celebrate Priesthood Sunday. Send a card,

letter or email to all the priests you know to say thank you, or simply offer devotions or prayers such as

the prayer below.

A PRAYER FOR PRIESTS

Gracious and loving God, we thank you for the gift of our priests.

Through them, we experience your presence in the sacraments.

Help our priests to be strong in their vocations. Set their souls

on fire with love for your people. Grant them the wisdom.

understand, and strength they need to follow in the footsteps of

Jesus. Inspire them with the vision of your Kingdom.

Give them the words they need to spread the Gospel.

Allow them to experience joy in their ministry. Help them to become

instruments of your divine grace. We ask this through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns as our Eternal Priest.

Amen
