And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God. (Deuteronomy 28:1-2) In the very beginning, “the Lord God commanded the man, saying, „Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die‟” (Genesis 2:16-17). Think about the blessings! Paradise in a garden with fruit trees created by the almighty God! “And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food” (Genesis 2:9). Imagine how beautiful and tasty the garden of Eden must have been for Adam and Eve. What a blessing! Sadly, in the midst of all the wonderful blessings of all the bountiful trees, Satan would turn man‟s focus upon just one tree. The eyes of Adam and Eve were successfully distracted from their garden of blessings to that which would become the curse of mankind. Horrifying were the words, “Cursed is the ground for your sake” (Genesis 3:17). And as the apostle Paul explains, this curse extended beyond the ground to sinful man himself: “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned” (Romans 5:12). Beyond the toil, physical and spiritual death became the curse of sinful man. Just as in the garden of Eden, the Israelites would have the choice whether or not to see the blessings and avoid the cursings. In Deuteronomy 28, God lays out the blessings and cursings to motivate them to obey the voice of God and not live in sinful disobedience. And in the pronouncement of the blessings, God motivates his people with the pronouncement that “blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God.” The hebrew word translated, “overtake” means that blessings will reach out and overtake them as a powerful army on the march overtakes their enemies. The word is used in many passages, like in Exodus 14:9: “So the Egyptians pursued them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen and his army, and overtook them camping by the sea.” Pharaoh, with all his men, horses and chariots, planned to overtake the Israelites and return them to Egypt. Little did Pharaoh know, until it was too late, he and his army would be the ones “overtaken” by the waters of the sea. When God‟s people set their hearts and souls upon heeding the voice of God and obeying his commandments, there is no stopping God‟s blessings! Jesus, in his sermon on the mount recorded in Matthew 5, put the people's eyes upon those who would be overtaken by the blessings of God. Jesus wants them to see the blessings and avoid the curses! Jesus even tells them that it is a blessing to face persecution and says, “ Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven” (Matthew 5:11-12). The apostle Paul would later point people to great blessings: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3-4). The reason we can see the blessings and avoid the curses is because “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree.”)” (Galatians 3:13). Darrell was a boy like most teenage boys these days. He didn‟t want just any tennis shoes, he wanted a really expensive designer brand. When Mom and Dad said they couldn‟t afford the shoes he wanted, Darrell threw a fit all the way to the store to get him the less costly shoes. However, something happened that day that changed Darrell‟s outlook. In the discount store and in the same aisle was a poorly dressed boy about Darrell‟s age. This boy was overjoyed and thanking his parents for sacrificing so much to buy him the very shoes Darrell did not want on his feet. What Darrel saw as a curse was really a blessing! How easy is it for God‟s people to miss seeing God‟s blessings because we are focused upon the things we want and not upon what God wants? Are you seeing God‟s blessings that overtake us? Are you avoiding curses? I called because I know that you‟re busy with the kids, and I want to give you some help. Today I am going to lighten your load! I‟m going to stop by to clean the house, take care of the baby and the boys, I will prepare lunch for the kids and dinner for the family. I want you to get ready to go out to lunch and to my beautician. I paid her already, she is going to give you „the works,‟ your appointment is at 1:00. Give George a call and tell him that you will meet him at Olive Garden for lunch and it‟s all on me..." At that point, the young mother interrupted and said, "George, who is George?" “Your husband.” "But, my husband‟s name is Fred.” “Oh. Is this 365-3212?” “No this is 365-3213.” The caller said, “Oh, I‟m so sorry. I‟ve got the wrong number.” After a pause, the young mother said in despair, “Does this mean that you‟re not coming over?” Do you know of someone who could use a little burden bearing? The word “burden” in Galatians 6:2 refers to a heavy weight that is an overwhelming load to carry. In verse one, Paul is talking about helping to a brother or sister who is weighed down with the burden of sin. Sometimes our “overwhelmed” brethren just need a helping hand to ease the weight of everyday life.

Please pray for all, especially our brothers and sisters, who have and will be losing their jobs and all who are suffering from the virus physically and emotionally. Also pray for our medical professionals.

Welcome Visitors: Please leave a record of your visit by filling out a visitor’s card and placing it in the collection plate.

Worship: Thank you for attending worship today. Everyone’s cooperation is very much appreciated. And thank you for to all who are arranging and participating in our worship today. Also appreciation goes out to those greeting, providing masks, and sanitizing before and after our assemblies.

Changes for Assemblies: As was determined in the men’s business meeting, at the 9:00 worship assembly masks are mandatory for everyone, with removal permitted for communion. The 11:00 service will continue as is, with masks optional but encouraged. If you would prefer to change your previously assigned worship time, you may. We have brothers and sisters who have not attended public worship since we began to worship in two assemblies. Hopefully, by having a mandatory face mask assembly will give them a level of comfort to allow them to assemble with other brethren for worship.

It is regretful we will be unable to resume classes at this time. We pray we will be able to do so soon. This decision will be reviewed at the next business meeting. It was also decided to not hold the July area-wide youth night. Please pray for our congregation and the Lord’s church as a whole during this difficult time.

Wednesday Summer Series Continues at 7:00 p.m. Subject: Why I am a member of the church of Christ. Wyatt Greer will be presenting the next lesson from the book, Why I Am a Member of the Church of Christ by Leroy Brownlow: “Because it was founded at the scriptural time.” These lessons from the scriptures will affirm why we believe what we believe.

They also will encourage us in our walk with Christ by creating a great appreciation for the scheme of redemption and the church.

Presenters: Please see Rick the Sunday prior to your lesson to confirm a recording time that will work for you and sooner if you need a copy of Brownlow’s book.

As of now, each Wednesday presentation will be recorded in advance and the lessons will be found as a POST pinned to the top of the Marshfield Facebook page instead of displayed as a livestream video.

Communion Supplies are available in the resource room for anyone who needs them. If you need access or delivery, or have other needs, contact Ron Thompson or Terry Cruise.

Pantry: It has been decided to have a pantry available for benevolent use, either for our own members who may have need or others we may become aware of. Please bring shelf stable foods, toiletries, and similar items to the church building to be included in the pantry. Keep Safe and Pray: Please continue to practice Covid -19 safety guidelines and 6ft. distancing.
