Mangano Offers Free Photo ID’s for Senior Citizens this Summer Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano is providing free Senior Citizen photo identification cards this summer. These free senior citizen identification cards include a photo, name, address, phone number, birthdate and emergency contact information. County Executive Mangano said, “The Se-nior Citizen Photo Identification Program provides residents with a convenient way to keep important information on a single, wallet sized ID card. The ID card serves
as an important tool in the event of an emergency as it allows first responders to quickly identify you and the person that should be contacted about your situation.”
Photos and cards will be processed on-site and residents will take their free senior citizen photo ID card home from the event. Each resident participating in the program will also receive information on life-saving County programs, including Smart911, Vial of Life and Yellow Dot.

Recipe of the Week
Materials:2 medium avocados, peeled and chopped2 tablespoons lime juice2 teaspoons diced jalapeno pepper
(or to taste)1/3 cup chopped cilantro2 medium garlic cloves, minced1 can (4 ounces) diced green chilies,
drained2½ cups diced watermelon, divided Salt, to taste Cooking spray1 ½ pounds cod Chili powder12–16 corn tortillas 3–4 cups commercial coleslaw mix
(shredded cabbage and carrots)1/2–1 cup commercial salsa
1. For guacamole, mash avocados to mix of smooth and chunky in medium bowl. Add lime, jalapeno, cilantro, garlic and chilies and mix

thoroughly. Add 1 1/2 cups diced watermelon and salt (if desired) and toss. Cover and refrig-erate to let flavors blend.
2. Heat oven to 350°F. Spray cookie sheet with cooking spray.
3. Place cod on sheet and sprinkle with chili powder and salt. Bake for 12–20 minutes (depending on thickness of fish) or until cooked through. Remove from oven and cut into pieces.
4. Heat tortillas on grill or griddle. Top each with few pieces of fish, 1/4 cup coleslaw mix, heaping spoonful of guacamole, tablespoon of salsa and few pieces of remaining diced watermelon.

Magic Tricks

Sometimes life for some seems like it is lucky or magical. Opportunities and furthering situations almost fall from the sky for certain people. But there is a lot beneath the surface the average person does not recognize in people who appear touched or blessed.
I have a pretty good track record of be-ing in the right place at the right time. Of course from my view, I have mostly put in a lot of energy dreaming or programming the events that occur over the course of time. Some wonderful happenings may have taken years in the development in my heart before they came into being.
Over the past 15 or more years I have practiced thinking differently than most of my family training or education. Instead of the constant voice in my head telling me I’m not enough, I countered it throughout most days with positive phrases and feel-ings of faith that all would work out, even when I truly didn’t actually feel particu-larly positive or enthused.
At first, it was just sayings, and then it was a lot more. I quit my life as an as-sistant dean at a community college and studied and became licensed as a mas-sage therapist. I began writing my weekly column about making choices to help me and others navigate our crazy world. Then I came in contact with many teachers from around the world who taught me how to shapeshift my life by the feelings and
words that governed my life. And finally I learned meditative practices like T’ai Chi and the Creative I Ching that connected me to the Spirit I had not made much space for since a child.
From these practices I learned to listen, be patient, love, take good care of myself, smile and practice not judging. Then one day I realized “Magic,” my favorite Creative I Ching hexagram, the Spirit of Joy, was what I had practiced. Like a magic trick before performing for a crowd, magicians go over and over the routine. Drop the coin, fumble it, lose it or just forget what to do first with it. Life is just practicing who we really are form our hearts. We forget and goof up, get grumpy and run out of enthusiasm but if we keep going we wake up one day to our Magical Life; loving ourselves, our work, where we live, who is in our life and everything (almost) we do and are.
We fall back, move forward, let go of what isn’t necessary and keep focusing on Love, Peace and Joy, every day, all day, all the time, for no reason. That my friends, is the path of a Magical Life. Like a trick, it’s practice that makes the Master.
Now get to work-play. It’s all a game, a trick. How will you play it? We get to choose. That is what everyone forgot. Forgetfulness creates suffering and drama instead of Love and Magic. We get to choose…that’s Magic.
