administer a permanent migration program of 185 000 places

issue more than four million visas

facilitate about 30 million crossings of the Australian border by

passengers and crew

2009 staff survey

Low scores regarding communication between senior leaders and

employees and senior and executive leadership visibility.

The statement µwithin my agency the most senior leaders are

sufficiently visible¶ was agreed to by 38% of staff compared with

50% across the Australian public service.

Only 29% of employees surveyed agreed with the statement µin

my agency, communication between senior leaders and other

employees is effective¶ compared with 37 per cent across the

Australian public service.

Comments included µthere is a big communication gap, with wallsbetween leadership and employees¶ and µwe find out more aboutwhat¶s going on from the grapevine than from official channels or

Staff wanted to see and engage with our executive and senior leaders more often
