He decided to explore because he went China with his father ,his uncle and brought ivory, jade, jewels, porcelain and silk to Venice, Italy, so they could get money.

Marco Polo walked all the way from Italy to China, Mongol Empire with his uncle, his father and he came back by boat.

He needed food, sailors, fresh water, compass, maps, boats, money, binoculars when he traveled by sea.
