BANDS Red Mountain High School offers a wide variety of opportunities for students including marching band, concert band, jazz band, and percussion class. MARCHING BAND is the first stop and the largest of the ensembles at Red Mountain. The marching pride has approximately 100 members and is consistently recognized as one of the top in its division, finishing 2 nd place in their division last year. Its family like environment will help your student feel connected and supported at Red Mountain. Participation in marching band is highly recommended and provides many benefits, including fulfilling the PE requirement for graduation. The marching band performs at all football games and well as Saturday marching band competitions. Practice schedule is A hour (6:45 AM – 7:45AM) and Tuesday evenings from 6-9pm. Members of marching band must also be enrolled in a band class or percussion class in addition. Fees for marching band are a $100 class fee (paid at registration) and a $350 membership fee (which can be payable through ECA tax credit). COLOR GUARD AND WINTER GUARD are open to any interested student. These programs use dance, flag, rifle, saber and various other equipment to enhance the marching band show and compete in winter guard competitions.

HONORS BAND is the premiere concert band at Red Mountain. It is limited to 40 musicians by specific instrumentation and by audition only. The Honors Band presents concerts of the highest difficulty of music every 9 weeks. SYMPHONIC BAND AND CONCERT BAND are the other two concert bands at Red Mountain. Symphonic band requires an audition and is the intermediate group between Concert and Honors band. All bands develop individual fundamentals, musicianship and ensemble skills while preparing quality musical repertoire for concerts every 9 weeks.

PERCUSSION CLASS is for percussionists at Red Mountain. This class addresses specific skills of playing mallet instruments, drumming, world percussion, and percussion ensemble to develop the well-rounded percussionists. Students also play with Symphonic or Concert Band.

All band classes require a tuxedo or specific concert dress, at a cost of approximately $80.

JENNIFER HAMILTON is the Director of Bands at Red Mountain High School. Under her direction, the Red Mountain Honors Band has received superior ratings, and the "Marching Pride" has been recognized as one of the top 8 marching bands in their division, recently finishing 2nd place. Previously, she was the Band and Orchestra Director at Coconino High School in Flagstaff, Arizona from 2003 – 2017, where the band was a featured ensemble at the Arizona Music Educators Association Conference in 2007 and 2012. Prior to this appointment, Ms. Hamilton taught high school bands in Georgia and

Florida. She received a Bachelor of Music Education from The University of Georgia in 1995 and a Master of Music in Conducting from The University of Kentucky in 2001, studying with Professor Richard Clary. In 2009, she was the recipient of the O.M. Hartsell Excellence in Teaching Award and in 2014, she was one of three finalists for the Coconino County Teacher of the Year. Ms. Hamilton is an active clinician and adjudicator throughout the state of Arizona and has served in many leadership positions including AMEA Northwest Band Chair, Vice-President of High School Activities, and President from 2015 – 2017.
