At the most recent

Fresno Housing

Authority all staff

presented with the

2018 Community

those experiencing or at risk of homelessness as well as

our leadership in and contributions to the Fresno Madera

Continuum of Care (FMCoC)!

Our Senior Vice President

and FMCoC Chair, Shawn

Jenkins, accepted this

cherished award. While we

are both honored and

humbled to receive this

recognition, there is still much

work to do and we look

forward to our continued

collaboration with our fellow

community partners, including

the Fresno Housing Authority! Looking ahead, we are

anticipating the upcoming May 11th opening of

Renaissance at Parc Grove Commons, a joint project with

“You”: A Poem by Tony (SUDT Program

Participant at Sierra Conservation Center)

“When hope no longer seems to be

An option within to reach

Challenge yourself to grow within

And practice what we teach

Promoting, molding better men

By facing what is past

Attempting to instill within

Good conduct that will last

Sierra Conservation Center

A place to start brand new

But honestly, it’s not the where

The change depends on YOU”

Women’s Health Month Discussion:

What is Menopause? By Nakesha Lee, Data Entry, STOP Area 3

Women’s health is

such a broad

category and we have

touched on many

topics relating to

wellness, so I decided to share and hope to answer some

questions regarding menopause and its effects. Every

woman deserves the best healthcare. Our needs tend to

change at different stages of life. One may be preparing

for pregnancy, while another one may be going through

menopause or just simply looking for answers to health

queries. Whatever stage you are at and whatever your

needs are, one must aim to empower themselves to

understand how to take control of their own health.

Menopause is a natural cessation or stopping of a

woman’s menstrual cycle and marks the end of fertility.

Most women usually begin this stage of life between the

ages of 45 to 55 years of age. This is when the body

begins to undergo several changes in response to lower

levels of estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, follicle-

stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone. Some

women go through menopause without any complications

or unpleasant symptoms while others experience

symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, weight gain

and flushing. These symptoms can continue for four or

more years after menopause. Other more common

symptoms may include:

*Depression *Memory Problems

*Anxiety *Headaches

Every woman’s menopause experience is unique.

Symptoms are usually more severe when menopause

occurs suddenly or over a shorter period. Certain lifestyle

choices like smoking tend to increase the severity and

duration of symptoms. There are women’s health

providers that specialize in menopause management.

Women, please remember anytime you are experiencing

any signs or symptoms that are making daily living difficult,

please consult with your doctor so they can monitor your

health and answer any questions you may have. Here is a

link if you would like more info: www.healthline.com/
