Pastor Tom Anderson and I have spent the past month working to update and upgrade the Messiah Lutheran Church's website. Look for a new website (same web address) in the next few weeks. We are excited about this fresh new look and dynamic feel to our web presence.

The "big item" to share in the newsletter is the patio located just outside the breezeway. It currently slopes inward and causes flooding in the breezeway when it rains/snows.
To resolve that issue, we shall break up and haul away the existing concrete and pour new concrete slab that slopes AWAY from the building as it should. We hope to eventually place a lattice roof atop the patio to break up sun and heat but allow some light in.
When completed, it should make for an extravagant outdoor space to better accommodate large functions that we at MLC currently cannot properly serve.
It will also be utilized for VBS and great picnic and barbecue activities for years to come!!!

EVANGELISM AND
OUTREACH
Community Easter Egg
Hunt
We will be holding a
Community Easter Egg hunt on April 19th. This will be a wonderful opportunity for the congregation to participate in a major outreach and Evangelism project.
Starting in Mid-March, we will set up a collection box for donations of plastic Easter eggs and individually wrapped candy that can be stuffed in the eggs. We plan to need A LOT! During the Easter egg hunt, we will have an all-congregation meet and greet, offering coffee and sweets, and other activities. We will need all hands on deck! This will be an opportunity for us to invite our surrounding community to Messiah. If you have any ideas to make this an amazing effort, see Rosemary.
Mark your Calendar For Vacation Bible School!
VBS will be held on June 16-20, 2014. As usual, we need lots of people to make it successful. If you have some time available that week—1 hour or all week, we want you. We need small group leaders, activity station leaders, etc. Experience is optional! Contact Rosemary, or sign-up on the bulletin board as you come in the front door. It’s a lot of fun!

Call Process Status
The Transition Team has the responsibility to complete the Site Ministry Profile (formerly known as the Congregation Mission Profile) that will be used by the Call Committee to find a new pastor that will be as suitable to our goals in ministry as possible. Portions of this profile are factual and can be readily compiled. A bigger challenge for the Transition Team is to discern a common voice of our congregation's vast variety of goals and needs. Rich Nelson, a professional strategic planner, has been hired to help us navigate through the rapids of seemingly divergent desires to find the calmer waters of unity. Rich has been doing an excellent job. Thus far, we have met twice as a group and twice with the congregation. At our December gathering with the congregation, we established two focus groups, ―Communications Awareness‖ and ―Social and Education Opportunities‖. These focus groups met separately to explore existing practices and opportunities and to suggest potential improvements and additions. On February 18, the focus groups reported back to the Transition Teams with a long list of ideas and suggestions – far too many to deal with at one time. To get started, we selected what we believe are important and achievable in the nearer term. We assigned responsibilities to individuals to flesh out these areas to be reported at our next congregational gathering
scheduled for Saturday, April 5 from 10:00 to 12:00. We encourage you to attend to
hear more details and provide your inputs. In His Service, Ron Kulju Transition Team Chair

By Rosemary Butler
CCC had calm month in February.
Our main activity was just for fun. We held a Potluck Dinner and Bingo Social. Fun was had by all.
March promises to be a very busy month for us. To be a part of this great committee, plan to attend our next meeting, on March 9; at 9:30 am. Find out what you can do.
Starting on March 1, we will be
gathering together to see the film, ―Son of God‖. We will go to the matinee at Winrock Theatre, and meeting at Deon’s following.
On March 4, Shrove Tuesday, plan
to join us for breakfast for dinner. We will serve pancakes from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Have some fun and fill up. Our wonderful new middle school youth will be helping us out. Come by and get to know them.
The following Wednesdays, from
March 12 through April 9, we will have soup suppers, prior to the Lent services. See Rosemary to sign up your group (or yourself) to bring some soup one of these weeks.

Breaking News…...Coming Event
Pilgrimage to Chimyo
Good Friday, April 18th
We plan to walk two miles to
El Santurario de Chimayo. (More information with maps and time
will follow as we get closer to Good Friday)
A pilgrimage is a journey of the body and soul. Regardless of our religion, it is an effort to become closer to
our God. A pilgrimage is sometimes undertaken to pray for God’s intercession in our lives or as thanks for an
intercession that has been granted. Often, though, a pilgrimage represents nothing more (or less) than our
desire to let God guide our footsteps and nourish our souls. A pilgrimage should not be undertaken lightly but
neither should it be undertaken in fear. It is intended to be a journey of joy and fulfillment.
El Santuario de Chimayo was bui lt in 1813 in the smal l community of El Potrero just
outside of Chimayo. It was bui lt in response to the discovery of a crucifix, Nuestro
Señor de Esquipulas, in 1810 and subsequent miraculous occurrences. El Santuario de
Chimayo is one of the most important pi lgrimage sites in the world. During Easter
weekend, as many as 40,000 people journey to El Santuario, some traveling hundreds
on miles on foot, some carrying crosses.
A small doorway to the lef t of the al tar leads to a narrow room. In this room are messages,
pictures, smal l gi f ts and cast of f crutches lef t by pi lgrims as wel l as a smal l shrine to Santo
Niño de Atocha. At the end of this room, behind a t iny door, is "el pocito" ( the l i t t le wel l) where
people may take smal l amounts of Holy Dir t , which many bel ieve have curative powers.

Interim Thoughts from Pastor Tom Anderson
From the Wilderness to the Wondrous The Season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, March 4, 2014. You will remember it is a six week season leading up to Palm Sunday and Easter. Easter is Sunday, April 20th this year. Much is in store for the people of God as we move through this solemn season. Lent if we allow it, has enormous spiritual possibilities for Messiah as a congregation and for us as individual believers. Our theme this year is From the Wilderness to the Wondrous. During the Lenten evening services at 7pm each Wednesday we will be seeing the Evening Prayer composed by Marty Haugen. A special part of that service will be hearing members speak about their own spiritual journeys. Each night a different person will tell us about his or her wilderness and wondrous experiences in faith. I think you will not want to miss a single one.
Studying the story of Christ‟s last days During the five Sundays of Lent I hope you will join me in the Fellowship Hall between services as we look at comparing the story of Jesus last days from the perspective of the three Synoptic Gospels—Matthew, Mark and Luke. When each Gospel is placed beside the other we get a unique perspective from each Gospel writer. I know that they study can deepen our insight in to the meaning of the Passion of the Lord. We will have the materials for you but bring your favorite bible to the Teaching Forum. We will not have class on Palm Sunday nor Easter.
Noonday Holy Communion each Wednesday in Lent A new feature this year is the addition of a Holy Communion service at 12:10pm. This time is designed to attract members and local folks who might be able to take a break from work. We always welcome, as well, those unable to come for the evening services. The time of the Holy Communion service is set for 12:10 pm. to 12:30 pm followed by a lunch if you are able to stay. Please bring friends along from other churches or bring those new to the faith. This is a short but deeply meaningful way to journey in our spiritual lives.
May you find Wondrous things this Lent
My prayer is that you will have a special Lenten journey this year. At times, we become weary and wonder where God is leading us. Let the ancient 40 year walk of the Israelites through the wilderness to the wondrous Promised Land be an image for us. Let their walk become a way for us in our time to experience the wondrous Promised Land that is ours now through Christ. Blessings on your Lenten pilgrimage. Pr. Tom Anderson
