Happy Sisterhood Month!

As the seasons are changing, I am reminded that we also have the ability to bring about change—in ourselves, in our chapter and in our community. Very soon, our chapter leadership will transition, and I encourage you to give serious thought to serving Delta by running for office.

Spring brings many events that need your support, including Minerva’s Closet, Stock the

Pantry at WOMEN, Jabberwock, and shortly Red Alert. Your presence will make all the difference in our success. Please give consideration to how you can support these chapter and Foundation functions.

During Sisterhood Month, I urge you to show your appreciation for other sorors beyond your circle of friends. Wouldn’t it be great if we made every month Sisterhood Month? What if we took extra steps every month to show sisterhood to another Delta? What if we were always kind, always giving our sisters the benefit of the doubt, always showing an extra measure of care to one another? During Sisterhood Month and every month, let us be committed to “Loving Sorors on Purpose with

Purpose.”

Sisterly,

Olivia M. Cloud, NAC President

DELTA DIGEST

March 15, 2015

Thank You

Chapter Presidents and Tennessee Sorors:

Thank you for all you have done this year to promote sisterhood and the tenets of our Sorority. It is a blessing to be called

a woman of Delta Sigma Theta. We uphold high virtues of womanhood and we work to provide service to our

communities.

Recently, we were blessed to attend our Tennessee State Cluster in Memphis. Due to weather situations, we went back

and forth considering whether to cancel our plans. Somehow, I always knew we would continue this journey and finalize

our plans to have the best Cluster ever because we had a praying committee. I have had time to reflect on what we

accomplished at the Cluster. We accomplished ALL of our goals. We had good fellowship, fun, and knowledge was

imparted to us. Our cluster co-chairs had put God first and we knew God was at the forefront of what we were trying to

do in our limited knowledge. He showed us much wisdom. Note: In all our dealings in Delta, IF we would just put God at the

center of our joy, we could accomplish much more and be more sisterly and loving to one another. From the beginning of the

cluster to the end, Shelby County Alumnae, Memphis Alumnae, Alpha Upsilon and Epsilon Kappa sorors wowed us with

the venue beauty ,the welcoming faces, and the organization of a great Cluster (chaired by super dynamic Sorors Blanche

Bond-Hudson, Angela Cooley, Vanessa Hopkins and alumnae chapter presidents Necole Jones and Yolaundia Cofield. As

we went from one space to another, we were awed by the small and large details. A fortitude statue here, a big violet

there, an array of flowers on a table in the welcome area with DELTA spelled out on the vases. It was all so beautiful. We

had a “live” band at the welcome host chapter reception. We had the food, the vendors, the gifts. The gift? Yes, I was

overjoyed to receive such a beautiful gift of a money bouquet. Today I finally plucked my money flowers and now I look

forward to planting my seeds in stores. I appreciate you thinking of me and giving me the gift that keeps on giving….your

love and support. I understand the plight of some sorors who decided not to attend Cluster due to weather concerns.

Everyone has to follow their inner thoughts and do what is best for them. We missed you and were concerned for

everyone’s safety, as we are anytime we must travel. We had over 550 attendees out of over 700 registered. One of my

State Coordinator objectives has been to ensure TN a better attendance at Clusters, DDACs and Fireside Chats so that we

can better equip our members for service to the Sorority and to our communities. I have seen significant growth from year

to year, and especially growth with collegiate attendance at these events. Thank you for stepping up and for encouraging

more attendance at these events.

Sorors, I have been your State Coordinator since 2011, and I am amazed by your generosity, your sisterhood exhibited

(anyone can talk about sisterhood), and your cooperative spirits. Every chapter that has been tasked to host a Cluster, a

Founders Day, DDAC, Fireside Chat has been so kind. You have been different in your approach, but the same in the

results that I am always proud to say you are my Tennessee Delta sisters. I appreciate encouragement from former

Tennessee State Coordinators who encourage me and make me feel as if I can do more than enough. These are my forever

SC sisters.

I appreciate every chapter member in the State and I know God has something extraordinary for us to do in these coming

months. Continue to make a difference TODAY and continue to be encouraged that we can be the best sisterhood in the

world. We must put our Christian principles into practice every moment, from membership intake (treating our Pyramids

as God would have us treat them) and working in the Delta vineyard (as God would have us work in peace and in

harmony). Happy Sisterhood month, Sorors! Pray for peace in the Delta house.

When I look at you, I see myself.

If my eyes are unable to see you as my sister, It is because my own vision is blurred.

And if that be so, Then it is I who need YOU.

Either because I do not understand who you are,

MY SISTER, Or because I need you

To help me understand who I am.

************************************** With these hands I cannot defile you

They are to lift you, My sister! With these words I cannot demean you

They are to encourage you and comfort you, My Sister! With this strength I cannot destroy you

It is to defend you, My Sister! With this heart, I cannot reject you

It is to love, My Sister!

Those powerful words on sisterhood were written by Soror Lillian Pierce Benbow. Soror Benbow, the 15th National President of Delta Sigma Theta (1971-1975), was a graduate of Lemoyne Owen College and studied at the University of Michigan and the Detroit College of Law.
