Principal’s Message: Laetare, A Pause to Rejoice!
Dear Parents,
This past Sunday was the Fourth Sunday of Lent, formerly known as “Laetare” Sunday. It is a pause placed in the middle of Lent for us to
“rejoice.” We have reason to rejoice, for the disciplines of Lent – prayer, fasting, and almsgiving – are helping us to put God first in our lives as we
focus on the Gospel message and follow the ways of Jesus. This “pause” allows us to reflect on our Lenten resolutions - how they going? For the
next three weeks, as we remain faithful to our Lenten practices, we grow closer to the fullness of joy that awaits us on Easter Sunday; with
Laetare Sunday, we are halfway there. At St. Anthony’s, we work each day to ensure that our words and actions reflect the Gospel message of
Jesus, and our Lenten activities of service, prayer, and reflection assist us in doing so. Thank you for your support and presence during our Lenten
journey as the community of SAS. God bless you and your family during this Lenten season.
Live, Jesus, in our hearts forever. Susannah Nelson, Principal

Change in Hot Lunch Menu for Friday This week the hot lunch program on Friday is being hosted by the 8th grade. There has been a menu change: instead of grilled cheese sandwiches, the hot lunch will be Pacifica Cheese Pizza.
Fresno County Spell Off – March 15 The Fresno County Spell Off will take place on March 15 (the incorrect date was posted in the previous Tuesday Packet). Two SAS students will be competing: 5th grader Daniella Golik and 7th grader Celine Irasusta. We wish them all the best, and we know they will represent SAS well!
Sierra Chamber Opera Performance Rescheduled at SAS The Sierra Chamber Opera performance has been re-scheduled for March 16 in the Social Hall. The performance for grades K-3 will begin at 1:00 P.M., and the performance for grades 4-5 will begin at 1:45 P.M. Come join us for a delightful musical experience!
Parish Verification Forms The Parish Verification forms for Holy Spirit and St. Paul Newman Center went home last week with your child. These forms need to be filled out and given to the appropriate parish office to be signed, and then they will be returned to SAS. This form is what makes you eligible for the discounted tuition rate known as an “Active Catholic.” These forms need to be returned to the SAS office no later than March 31, 2016. If your form is not returned by that date, your tuition rate will be changed to “Other Catholic.” If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Reynolds in the school office.
Special Dress for St. Patrick’s Day – March 17 Students are invited to wear special free dress to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day: any green on top with long jeans or school shorts, green socks, and green hats. Thank you, Student Government, for sponsoring this special dress day!
Kindergarten Testing Dates for New Students The dates for the Kindergarten Testing for new students are March 15 and 16.
Financial Aid Applications If you are currently receiving financial aid, your packets were mailed last week. If you would like to apply for financial aid from St. Anthony’s School, please come to the school office and pick up an application. The due date for financial aid applications is April 29, 2016.
Scrip Reminders As of March 1, you are now buying scrip for next school year (2016-2017). A letter with your total Tuition Scrip Credit amount will be sent home with your oldest child this week. This letter must be returned to the school office no later than Friday, March 18 to receive your Scrip Credit. The Tuition Scrip Credit may be deducted from your April and/or May tuition balance or used to pay registration or any other category you select. NO TUITION SCRIP CREDIT MAY BE CARRIED OVER TO THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Dean or Mrs. Reynolds in the school office.

School Mass on Friday The next School Mass will be Friday, March 11 at 8:45 A.M. It will be prepared and presented by the students in 8B. Parents and family members are always welcome at our School Masses.
Springboard Update – and Farewell, Mr. French Spring offerings are now available on the Springboard website. Classes begin the week of April 11th. Please see the attached flyer for details. For questions, contact Kim Boyer at [email protected].
Mr. Vaness French, the founder of French’s Knights, passed away last week at the age of 49. French’s Knights provided chess classes to SAS through Springboard for the last four years. While Mr. French did not teach classes at SAS this last year, we were blessed to have him teach many of our SAS students in the years prior. Please keep Mr. French’s family and his staff at French’s Knights in your prayers. http://www.fresnobee.com/news/local/article64117732.html
Father-Daughter Dance – Photos The photos purchased the night of the dance are available for pick up in the school office. If you would like to order additional photos, please visit the photographer’s web site at www.glennschafer.com. Click on the St. Anthony’s link to order.
Security Committee Meeting The next Security Committee Meeting is March 23 at 5:30 P.M. in the conference room.
Parking Lot Reminders Recently parents have been stopping/parking in areas that are causing traffic flow and safety issues for our families and students. Please refrain from parking, dropping off, or picking up in the following areas of the parking lot:
• By the church conference room (also known as the “donut room”) – it is not safe for our students to travel across the parking lot to meet their rides; they need to remain near the school to be effectively supervised during dismissal. Please park in the spaces near the school.
• By the stanchions that block off the school parking area from the Maroa side entrance. Cars that stop here to drop off or pick up students greatly impede the flow of traffic.
Thank you for your cooperation to keep our students safe and our parking lot traffic flowing smoothly.

Lent Meditation
Gracious God, it's so hard to love the world sometimes,
and to love it the way Jesus did seems impossible. Help me to be inspired by his love
and guided by his example. Most of all, I want to accept that I can't do it alone, and that trying is an arrogance of self-centeredness.
I need you, dear God, to give me support in this journey. Show me how to unlock my heart
so that I am less selfish. Let me be less fearful of the pain and darkness
that will be transformed by you into Easter joy. Amen.

Lego Engineers! Back by popular demand! Instructor: Bricks 4 Kidz Bricks 4 Kidz is the first company in the Central Valley to provide an extraordinary classroom atmosphere for children, where they learn, build and play… with LEGO®
Bricks. This class is built around proprietary model plans, designed by engineers and architects, with exciting themes such as space, construction, and amusement parks. Bricks 4 Kidz’ specially designed project kits and theme-‐based models provide the building blocks for:

communication in the process of completing a project and much more!
If students’ interest in this class grows, there will also be opportunities for them to learn about the First Lego League competition tournaments and attend a local event! This class will run until 4:15pm. Conversational Italian This beginner Italian class for kids is one you don’t want to miss. This class was such a success, that we decided to bring it back!
