Bishop Lecture Series: Ken CarterOn Sunday during worship we will welcome Bishop Ken Carter to preach in both worship services. Bishop Carter serves as resident bishop of the Florida Annual Conference. Join us for evening lectures on Sunday (5 p.m.), Monday, and Tuesday (6 p.m.) from Bishop Carter. All lectures will be in the Nave.

Knoxville Marathon, SundayThe Knoxville Marathon is on Sunday, April 2. Please take a minute to visit www.knoxvillemarathon.com to view the course route and see if you need to allow extra travel time to worship on Sunday morning. The race begins at 7:30 a.m.

Adults 50+: Jubilation Jubilation is the Holston Conference’s event for Adults 50+ who want to explore and enhance their relationship with Christ. Jubilation will be May 1-3 at the MainStay Suites in Pigeon Forge, TN.

Featured speakers this year are Dr. Mickey Efi rd, Professor Emeritus, Duke Divinity School and Rev. Charles Maynard, Maryville District Superintendent. Jubilation begins on the afternoon of Monday, May 1 with optional workshops before stories with Charles Maynard. Tuesday, May 2 includes a day fi lled with fellowship, worship, and programs including music by Beth Burkey, Doug Richesin, and Michael Rodgers. The event ends on the morning of Wednesday, May 3. We have three wooden, upright pianos that need tuning or could be great for re-purposing. They are free, but you must provide movers and cover the cost of moving. (There is one piano on each fl oor of the education building.) Pianos need to be moved by Thursday, April 13. If you are interested, please contact Katryn McKinney at 521-0282 or [email protected].

UMW n e w sJoin the United Methodist Women as they gather to hear Church Streeter Judge Pam Reeves, on Tuesday, April 11. We’ll enjoy a covered dish dinner together beginning at 6 p.m. in Parish Hall. At 7 p.m. we will move to the chapel for “An Overview of the Judiciary.”

RSVP to the church offi ce by April 7 so that we have adequate seating for dinner. Please bring a dish that will serve 8-10 people. Beverages will be provided.

Day of Blessings, April 22The Missions Committee will host the fi rst Day of Blessings on Saturday, April 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Vestal UMC for Beacon of Hope. We will gather for a light breakfast and prayer then get to work serving. Opportunities to serve include cleaning, organizing items for the Sharing Shop, construction projects, creating Blessing Bags, yard work, and more. All ages are welcome to serve so consider serving together as a family. If you are unable to physically serve, then you can support the Day of Blessings by being part of the prayer team.

Register to serve online (link on the church website under “Our Blog” and included in The Messenger email version) or call the church offi ce. Church Street t-shirts will be available for purchase for $10 for the Day of Blessings.

The Missions Committee is sponsoring a service trip to Henderson’s Settlement in Frakes, KY on Saturday, April 1. CSUMC’s own master gardener, Dave Craig, will lead a day of gardening at this United Methodist mission. Gardening skills are not required. Please contact Rev. Barbara Clark for details at 529-0263.

Special Offering to Support UMCORDuring worship on Sunday we will take a special offering to support the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). UMCOR offers relief and hope during disasters around the world on behalf of The United Methodist Church. Your gifts help allow UMCOR to respond immediately after an event to offer assistance and hope. Please give generously on Sunday.

Adult Council Hosts Pink Marble TourExplore the “Marble City” on the Pink Marble Tour hosted by the Adult Council. on Tuesday, April 18. The tour will explore the history and architecture of downtown led by Church Streeter and author of book The Pink Marble Trail, Molly Gilbert. Stops include the “Rock of Ages” exhibit at the East Tennessee History Center, Knoxville Museum of Art, Post Offi ce, and Candoro Marble Arts and Heritage Center.

The tour will begin by boarding the van at 11 a.m. at Church Street followed by lunch at Tomato Head. There will be some walking involved in the tour. The tour is estimated to return to Church Street at 4:30 p.m. The cost is $18 (does not include lunch). Call the church offi ce for reservations and pay by April 10. This is a joint

Lenten Concert, April 6The Master Arts Series will present a free Lenten Concert on Thursday, April 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Nave The concert will feature the Adult Parish Choir Knoxville Symphony Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Joe Miller. Dr. Miller is the conductor of the world famous Westminster Choir and a former Church Street singer.

The Lenten concert will include Requiem by Maurice Durufl e and Laudate Pueri by Antonio Vivaldi. The concert will also feature the voices of Jami Rogers Anderson, soprano,

Daniel Webb, bass/baritone, and Andrea Dismukes, mezzo-soprano.

You may pick up your purchased Easter lilies on Easter following the 11:00 a.m. worship service or on the morning of Monday, April 16.

Sunday VolunteersVolunteers are needed in the church office to answer the phone on Sunday mornings. Volunteers are needed to answer phones to provide general church information, provide a contact when there is an emergency, or someone goes into the hospital.
