Potentates Message, March 2018
Nobles:
I would like to personally thank all of you for entrusting me with the role of
your Potentate of Aad Shrine. Your Divan will do everything in its power to
make you proud to be an Aad Shriner, and, hopefully, enact some changes to
make our Temple financially sound and prepare us for the changes we will see
going forward with Shriners International.
My goals for Aad Shriners in 2018 are:
Membership Program: Noble Jim Christensen will lead this campaign and will be a huge asset for
us in the Blue Lodges, drawing from his experience in Masonry as the Past Grand Master of Minnesota. We
will be re-instituting our restoration program of paying current year’s dues to be restored. Past Potentate
Gudowski will be heading up the restoration program, as well as promoting the Aad Shrine in Blue Lodges in
Wisconsin. The “two for dues” incentive is in force, as well.
Club and Unit Participation: I have spoken with some club and unit heads, and it is my goal to have each
club/unit hold at least one fundraiser, with the proceeds going directly to the club/unit. I believe we must find
a healthy financial balance with all the clubs/units. History indicates that clubs/units have utilized Aad Shrine
services for office staff, postage charges, printing costs, etc. We need to have all our clubs/units realize that
they have the resources and/or the ability to fundraise so that they can function on their own, covering their
own office expenses. I understand some clubs/units don’t have adequate financial resources; we will be there
to help with their specific needs. Whatever you plan, always be sure to submit the Fundraising Activity Form
during the planning stages.
Publicity: Your Divan has allotted in our budget funds to let the public in our various markets know what
we do and what we stand for; Noble Taras Lendzyk will be heading up this endeavor. We will now be able to
utilize our funds to purchase various forms of media. This will include radio, television, local papers, etc. I
encourage clubs/units to contact the office, as we will co-op advertising to help save the cost to them.
Digital Marketing: Your Divan has approved the hire of an intern, Kaitlin Slough, from UMD; she will be
updating the digital presence for Aad Shriners. Katie will be working on our website, our presence on
Facebook and Twitter, the launch of our Aad Shrine app, and marketing projects for our Temple. Please
welcome Katie to our office!
Thank you all for what you do to make Aad Shrine great and helping us financially to achieve our goals!
Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns or questions.
Fraternally Yours,
Paul Vizanko, Potentate

CALLING ALL COOKS!
Any Noble interested in joining our Chef’s Unit is asked to attend a meeting on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. in the Board Room at Aad Shrine. If you are interested, but cannot make the meeting on that date, please call the Shrine office at 218-722-7488 so we can get your name on our roster. If you aren’t interested in the actual preparation of food, we can always use help in cleaning up after our stated meetings, etc, and we really want to explore the opportunities we may have in taking our kitchen license to other venues where we could serve simple things such as hot dogs, coneys, sloppy joes, etc. Some of the lakefront events may be an excellent chance for us to serve food, meet people and even help our membership grow!

SUMMER MSA, DEADWOOD, SD UPDATE !
Hello Nobles,
Hope you are all doing well. I come to you with
information pertaining to the Midwest Shrine
Association (MSA), sponsored by Naja Shriners
in Deadwood, SD this year, August 16th
-18th
.
We have a block of rooms at 2 hotels, adjacent
to each other, with a reserve hotel nearby for
us by the Deadwood MSA committee.
I am asking that you talk with your Clubs and
Units and make a commitment to come out to
Deadwood this summer.
If you plan on attending the Summer session
this year, please call the Aad Shriners office
at 218-722-7488 or Justin Stokke at
218-721-2010 by the 20th
of March, 2018.
This is the firm date you need to make your
commitment to join us out in Deadwood. After
this date we lose the rooms that we have not
made a deposit on. If you decide to join us out
there after 20th
March, you will be on your own
to find a place to stay. You may only be able
to find a room in Rapid City, SD which is 40
miles away.
The Divan is really hoping you can make it out
to Deadwood this year for fun and good
fellowship.
Please don’t forget to make your reservation
with the office by the 20th
of March.
Fraternally,
Justin Stokke, Assistant Rabban

FROM THE DESK OF THE RECORDER….
Effective February 1, the Recorder will be in the office two days per week. Feel free to contact me or leave a message for me at the
office and I will return your call. Just a few things to be mentioned this month: All clubs, units, and individuals requesting free
circus tickets MUST fill out a form available from the office or by email. This form will ask who is requesting the tickets, the
number desired and to whom and for what reason the tickets are being requested. These requests MUST be received by April 1 and
will be approved by the Divan or the Potentate. This decision was made by your Divan at their meeting on February 2, 2018.
MEMBERSHIP: 2018 brings back the “Two For Dues” plan to attract new Nobles and the “Once in a Lifetime” plan to reinstate
those Nobles who have been suspended. If you are the topline signer on two petitions for new Nobles in 2018, your dues for 2019
will be remitted by Aad Shriners. Also, if you know any former Noble who was suspended for non-payment of dues, he may be
reinstated to full membership by paying his 2018 dues. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Those suspended Nobles do not
receive our Aad News so if you know somebody in such circumstance, please tell him that he can “return to the fold” for only $94.
Our goal for new Nobles for the second half of 2017 and first half of this year is 22 NEW NOBLES. We have 2 from 2017 so we
need a minimum of TWENTY (20) NEW NOBLES BY JUNE 30! If each club and unit would bring in 1 candidate, we will have
met our goal.
Also, each month I plan to share a little Shrine law with our Aad Nobility so that some of your questions may be answered.
Following our installation of officers on January 6, there was a question about the proper procedure for installation. Shrine Law
326.3 indicates that the officers shall be installed during the month of January at a temple OR public ceremony and shall be in
accordance with the ceremony of installation prescribed by Shriners International AND the officers shall assume the duties of their
respective offices upon installation. If you have a question concerning Shrine Law, call or email the office and I will try to answer
these questions in each month’s edition of Aad News.

LOTUS TEMPLE No.7 DAUGHTERS OF THE NILE
Here are a few questions and answers regarding Daughters of the Nile:
WHO ARE MEMBERS OF DAUGHTERS OF THE NILE? Women, 18 years of age of older,
who are related by birth or marriage to a Shriner, Master Mason or Daughter of the Nile, or
is a majority member in Good Standing of a Masonic related organization for girls, or who was a
patient with or without Shrine or Masonic relationship at a Shriners Hospital for Children.
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF DAUGHTERS OF THE NILE? Daughters of the Nile was founded for
character building among women, social interaction and service to others. These ideals led to our
work for the special children of Shriners Hospitals for Children.
HOW DO INTERESTED LADIES BECOME DAUGHTERS OF THE NILE? Proposals to membership are
signed by two members who are personally acquainted with the woman being proposed. A letter
of invitation is then issued and the candidates are conducted through the initiatory work at
Ceremonials.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BELONGING TO DAUGHTERS OF THE NILE? The members of
Daughters of the Nile share a special bond of fellowship with each other. There is pride in our
efforts toward supporting the great philanthropy of Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Lotus Temple enjoys welcoming new members into our Temple. We invite you Nobles to talk to your
family members about the benefits of their joining the Daughters of the Nile and becoming an
active member of the greater Masonic family.
Please contact Membership Chair Past Queen Sharon Bertucci @ 218-749-9844 for
more information.

Greetings Nobles and friends, Around the corner we have a Hospital Representative Meeting on Friday March 16th. We have a few of our Noble's signed up, however we would like to get more and especially from each area of our Aadland. At this meeting a number of topics will be discussed such as public relations, donor development, professional relations and a tour of the Hospital. Breakfast and lunch will be served and it runs from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. See the flyer on this page and contact the office or myself if you are interested. On Saturday May 19th will be Hospital Day where all Nobles, family and friends are welcome to come and visit our Hospital. It is in the form of a open house and starts at 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. In the past we have had a good turnout and would expect the same this year. There will be more information to follow. See the flyer on this page. At Hospital Day we honor our three Rainbow of Hope Award winners. These are given to our patients who have been role models while overcoming physical limitations. I have had the honor to moderate this program and get to see first hand how amazing our young patients truly are. Contact the Shrine office for a nomination form to be submitted by April 6th. If you know a candidate, please submit their name ASAP. On June 27, 2018 Aad Shrine, along with Zor Temple, will be sponsoring a Screening Clinic in Ashland. There will be more information about this next month. And lastly we have Hospital Dad's Dinner on Thursday March 8th. We are fortunate to have Charles Lobeck SHC-TC Administrator doing a presentation on our Hospital. He will bring insight to where we are and where we will be going in the future. Don't miss it and bring your dues with you! Contact the Shrine office at 218-722-7488 with your RSVP.
Fraternally yours, Richard "Ike" Eisenmann, PP SHC-TC Hospital Board Representative

NOBLES AND FRIENDS;
Your Aad Shrine Divan is currently looking at ways to
reduce costs of the Aad News. Some of the ideas
include going back to a B & W format, fewer pages,
or possibly a bi-monthly publication.
The Aad News is currently costing us over $14,000
annually. We have about 10% of our Nobility
receiving the publication digitally. If you agree to
switch to e-mail only, we will send you 5 free drink
tickets to the Red Fez Lounge as our way of saying
thanks to help in savings costs associated with the
Aad News.
To help defray costs, consider becoming an Aad
News Supporter, so we can continue to keep our
publication as is. We would like to see each Club
and Unit become an Aad News Supporter. This is
YOUR Aad News. Please mail a check for $25, or
contact the Shrine office at
218-722-7488.
