Why we lose the shoes? Here at Annabel’s we have been playing barefoot since we very first opened, we believe that there are lots of benefits to children ‘losing the shoes’. The physical development of children’s feet for one, walking barefoot develops the muscles in the feet and lower legs. It also promotes a better posture and a healthier gait. Toddlers that are walking barefoot are more aware of the environment around them and enjoying an increased sensory experience, which helps to promote spacial awareness. In a recent study by the University of Bournemouth they found children that didn’t wear shoes in school were more engaged in lessons and that in turn promoted better academic achievement. It’s not always practical for children in Bangkok to be running around with no shoes on, which is why we work hard to keep the school environment a safe place for little feet and big feet, so feel free to lose the shoes when you are next at school! Bluebells Newsletter - March 2017

Dear families,

It is really hard to believe that another term is coming to an end. Time flies when you are having fun and we have been having lots of fun... dressing up, book week, photo shoots, bear hunt and teddy bears’ picnic, to name just a few things. We also joined our big friends from Lilies class to watch a fun play they prepared themselves.

Over the term we have been working on developing our language through singing, mimicking, making funny sounds and spending lots of time with our favourite books. We have also been working on our motor skills by: lacing buttons; playing with water, ice, foam and sand; sticking paper, "gems" and dried fruit; rolling play dough; building with blocks; and shaping clay.

We have also introduced our photo sharing application "Seesaw", most of you have joined already and we hope you are enjoying seeing the children at play.

This has been a very exciting month and thank you all for being a part of it.

Happy Songkran from Bluebells!

Daffodils Class Newsletter - March 2017

Dear Parents,

It has been another busy month in the daffodils class. The children really enjoyed the Teddy Bear's picnic. They each brought a teddy bear from home and had a great time on their outing with their cuddly friends. The weather was humid and a bit rainy, but we all enjoyed ourselves.

The children have spent some time making Clay Creations with cinnamon sticks, dried bael fruit and star of anise. it was great fun and a fantastic sensory experience.

We have also been doing some fun cooking activities, we were so lucky to have Mali's parents showing the children how to make banoffee pie and TonPai's parents helping us make sausage rolls, both of which were so tasty we are sure they weren’t shared with parents and siblings!

Daffodils have been busy making their farm diorama which will be ready to take home soon. The children were also busy making their Easter baskets and hats for our Easter Egg Hunt.

We would like to wish you all a safe and happy Songkran and look forward to seeing you next term.

Cheers,T.Mhel, P'Pui, P'Nuan and P'Why

Dear Marigolds Parents,

We have had a very exciting end to Term 2 with lots of holidays and and events at Annabels   Early Years. The children most recently enjoyed a blessing by monks for the Thai new year. We spent a day celebrating Easter by making traditional hot cross buns, bunny ears and painting eggs.

Term 3 we will be looking forward to our Transport topic starting with fire engines and fire people. We will have the local fire engine come and visit us which was a big hit last year with all the children and brings a real world experience to their learning. We also will be talking about taking care of our Earth for April’s Earth Month. If you could please send in any recycling or loose parts that we could use that would be greatly appreciated.

On Friday 5th May 2017 we will hold our first Marigolds and Buttercups brunch. The children will be asked to bring in a favourite dish that they can share with the class and serve by themselves. We

will have flowers, table clothes and be working on using serving tools and table manners. It will be a lovely way to connect our different cultures and share food together.

I hope everyone has a safe a n d h a p p y S o n g k ra n holiday and we are looking forward to hearing and

seeing photos of all the wonderful vacations planned.

Buttercups Newsletter - March 2017

Dear Parents

The end of term 2 has arrived! The Buttercups have had such a lovely time this last few months making new friendships, gaining so much independence and enjoying our Dinosaur and Under the Water themes, as well as engaging in all the activities of Book Week. Thank you to all the parents who have donated time to come in and read to our class.

By now most of you will have received your Goldilocks and the Three Bears story sack gift, and hopefully enjoyed spending time retelling the story. The children spent so much time making all the props and characters, and I’d love to hear your feedback, and maybe even a video of your child retelling the story at home!

Next term we are planning a big transport theme, with buses, airports, fire brigade and police stations! The children just love dress up and using their imagination to create situations like house fires, which bring the children together in such fun ways. We will be making things out of recycled materials so please keep any boxes (tissue, rolls, big or small), containers (milk bottles, caps etc) and anything else you feel might be useful in sparking the children’s imaginations to create! We also look forward to the annual visit from the guys dressed in red…that is, the local fire brigade!

We always talk about how much we are working on independence and encouraging that ‘I can do it myself’ attitude. We will be turning our tables into a permanent café in term 3, and organising some brunch style events, in order to practice all our practical life skills with each other. The intention for the children to show off all their hard work to you all with an end of year ‘brunch’! Our first practice morning will be Friday 5th May – more details to follow!

Another term 3 event is the annual charitable art auction in May. This is an opportunity to enjoy the process driven art from all the Annabel’s children, and celebrate creative collaboration, which our school prides itself on.

Finally may I take this opportunity to wish you a very happy Easter and Songkran holidays. Please travel safely and I can’t wait to hear all but the Buttercup’s adventures in term 3!

Warm regards

Teacher Ingrid

Daisies Class Newsletter - March 2017

Dear Parents,

We have had such an exciting end to the second term in Daisies class. Book Week was so much fun, and the children really looked fabulous in their book character costumes!

The Daisies have been exploring the theme Space, and have taken journeys through the solar system to different planets. We have enjoyed learning about how to travel to Space, what they would learn in Space School, what they need to prepare before taking off and what they will see when they're out in space. We have really enjoyed learning about how cold or hot the different planets are depending on how close or far away from the sun they are!

As part of our ongoing literacy program, we have started learning some of our phonics, and are getting so good at trying to find the sounds in our names and the things we see around us. We have also been introduced to alliteration in the class and came up with

silly alliterating alien names while creating our own aliens!

A s w e c o m e close to the end of termholidays, we are so excited about go ing on our Easter Egg Hunt in the garden.

We hope you all have a lovely Songrkan break and look forward to seeing you after the holidays.

Best wishesTeacher Ash and P Kae

Dandelions Newsletter - March 2017

Dear parents,

What a nice week!!! The monks visited our school for a blessing for the upcoming Thai new year. The children had a chance to offer alms to the monks. They were all

excited but listened very well and were very respectful. It was a great opportunity to learn about the Thai culture.

We have learned a lot about different celebrations in recent weeks not only Songkran but also Easter. We had so much fun on our easter egg hunt and luckily we all found at least one egg.

We have started working on our phonics, we have read the Jolly Phonics story on the s-a-t-p-i—n sounds. We have also been practicing our prepositions language for example in front of', behind, under, between and next to.

The children did a great job with their "writing dance” (drawing an Easter bunny).  Teacher Irene was very proud! They practiced the writing directions by listening to the music and making circles with big and small movements.

I wish you all a good Songkran break!

T. Irene

Dear parents,

Believe it or not, there are only three months of learning left of this academic year. The children have grown in many ways and they are a really nice group of enthusiastic learners and really good friends.

These past few weeks the children showed lots of interest in living creatures. They have patiently observed tadpoles turning into frogs counting their legs and tails every day. We have spent many days planning our pretend pet shop. The children enjoy playing in it and it allows them to access writing and counting in a meaningful context. Unfortunately having a real

aquarium is not as easy as we all thought. We have already lost half of our fish. At least we can practice our subtractions skills. I just hope we will not get to zero.

In March books were celebrated with lots of reading, favourite book character costumes, bear hunt and teddy bears picnics. The teachers reenacting the traditional tale of the three little pigs made the children laugh. Besides the teachers, Lilies also demonstrated their fabulous acting skills. It was a thrill to watch them confidently perform Jack and the Beanstalk in front of their friends from other classes.

Our conversation about how to cool down in this hot weather sparkled a passionate discussion about the best way to eat ice cream. The children

already knew a lot about melting and they were further offered an opportunity to carry out an investigation to see where ice would melt quicker. They all made a prediction about what would happen and then observed and recorded their findings.

Finally, our 100 days of school celebration was a blast. Thank you for all those beautiful collections.

We have launched Seesaw, the new application that offers a more interactive way of communicating with the parents. We strive to improve things constantly and we value your feedback. Please let us know what do you think about Seesaw.

Term Two it coming to its end. Wherever you may be travelling, we wish you a happy and safe family holiday and look forward to greeting you all again in two weeks for another term packed with exciting learning opportunities.

Warm wishes,teacher Mimi
