Next term takes us back to our Longburn grounds. This term has seen us run another Relationship Building Course and also a Nose work class which I am sure have been enjoyed by those who participated. Early this term we also held our AGM I would like to thank those members who attended. At the AGM we saw some long standing committee members stand down from the committee, we thank them for the many hours that they have spent helping to run our club. Also recently some club members attended the Cahill Animal Hospital open day where they put on a display and spoke to numerous people about training. This was a very successful day. I would like to thank our instructors for this term, all who volunteer their time to help you and your dogs. I would also like to congratulate members of the club who have done well at Obedience, Breed and Rally O competitions. Congratulations to all those students who passed their class this term. And to those who didn't quite make it, don't despair, look at how far you and your dog have come this term and don't forget any time spent working with and training your dog is time well spent. Next term starts on the 11 th April and is out at our Longburn Grounds. Next term may see us running 2 class times. Times will be advised and dependant on number of enrolments. It is always helpful if you pre-enrol so that we have an idea of numbers. You can do this either by going to www.dogtraining.org.nz or by emailing [email protected]. I trust you have all had an enjoyable term of training and hope to see many of you back next term. Remember training should be fun. Keep up the good work. PRESIDENT’S BLOG:-

Well the first term for the year has finished and as it concludes we are starting to see the daylight

disappearing by the end of class. Next term takes us back to our Longburn grounds.

This term has seen us run another Relationship Building Course and also a Nose work class which

I am sure have been enjoyed by those who participated.

Early this term we also held our AGM I would like to thank those members who attended. At the

AGM we saw some long standing committee members stand down from the committee, we thank

them for the many hours that they have spent helping to run our club.

Also recently some club members attended the Cahill Animal Hospital open day where they put on

a display and spoke to numerous people about training. This was a very successful day.

I would like to thank our instructors for this term, all who volunteer their time to help you and your

dogs. I would also like to congratulate members of the club who have done well at Obedience,

Breed and Rally O competitions.

Congratulations to all those students who passed their class this term. And to those who didn't quite

make it, don't despair, look at how far you and your dog have come this term and don't forget any

time spent working with and training your dog is time well spent.

Next term starts on the 11th

April and is out at our Longburn Grounds. Next term may see us

Boston (Double-Impact at Eseldown)

26.09.2004 to December 2016

Nicky & Pat Redwood recently said goodbye to their old boy Boston

Boston competed in Breed Show competition, he was the first dog Nicky

had brought to the Club and remembered fondly by us all.

Our condolences & thoughts go out to Nicky & Pat, and to Indie & Cooper

who will miss their big brother

Piper (Pip) (Southerley Yuletide CDX)

02.11.2000 to 25.01.2017

Meredith Pitcher also said goodbye to her Piper (Pip).

Piper was the “Grand Old Lady” of Club, who was forever hopeful

of that treat she knew everyone at Club had in their pocket.

Piper had a go at Obedience, Breed & Tracking and gained her CDX

(Companion Dog Excellent)

Our thoughts & sympathy go out to Meredith, and her boys

Tully & Tommy, at the loss of this lovely old girl.

Canine Friends Pet Therapy Do you have a very well-behaved dog, enjoy sharing him/her with others?

Are you a good listener and enjoy meeting people? You may be a good candidate to consider Canine Friends Pet

Therapy.

This is all what we do in our organisation. We are a New Zealand wide organisation with around 600 dogs visiting at the

present time primarily set up to visit the elderly in resthomes hospices and hospitals.

Twenty seven years ago it was a vision of Eileen Curry who saw the need in Wellington and took her Golden Retriever

in visiting, she then needed help so three of her friends and herself set up Canine Friends Pet Therapy and it has never

looked back. It is a totally voluntary organisation so the reward for your time is the smile, the laugh or just the twinkle

in the eye.

We share some furry friendliness, comfort and joy to all we visit. You would be amazed to see how elderly and sick

people look forward to our visits and how we brighten their days. When they touch the silky coats and rub the soft ears

of our dogs memories of their own beloved pets and happier times come flooding back to them. All Canine Friends

members have very special experiences with the people they visit and see miracles when their dog breaks through the

communication barrier and bring great joy and comfort. Great stories abound.

We do not have super-duper specially trained dogs, just well-behaved happy loving family pets with a very good

temperament and behaviour level and of course relate to people well.

At present we have very active Liaison Officers in Palmerston North and the general Manawatu plus

Dannevirke/Pahiatua and the Horowhenua so have the area pretty much covered. As a member after an assessment

you visit your appointed resthome on a regular basis being same time, same day whether it is weekly or fortnightly

preferably during the week but it can be arranged for weekend visiting as well. There is a commitment required to

doing this. All Canine Friend Pet Therapy dogs wear a bright red scarf while their owners wear a badge so as to identify

us.

If you would like to do this please visit our webpage www.caninefriends.org.nz for all the information you will need

plus you can apply online as well. We also have a facebook page which shows our teams out and about.
