Gold Diggings
[ ]1
The club continues to evolve and grow. Many of the challenges we face as a club are how do we keep the activities the club supports relative to the membership. We have experienced a decline in attendance at the meetings and without meeting attendance, the Board (whichever Board that may be) has no direction about utilizing club resources -- both human and financial. In an effort to increase attendance so YOUR voice may be heard, we are going to change up the meetings
a bit. Our next meeting will be as usual -- on March 19 right before the "goldens only" fun match. Then our next meeting will be in May -- most likely on a Sunday afternoon. The following meeting will be held in August in conjunction with the Western Regional and the Specialty. We will have meeting in September to introduce the new proposed slate of officers and then a November meeting for the election of officers. The Board is hopeful that this new meeting

schedule will allow more members to attend the meetings and offer their input into club supported activities. I am looking forward to seeing you on March19 at Jefferson County Fairgrounds for our annual breakfast meeting and fun match. We have many items on the agenda, including:Do we want to change the Novice A trophy requirements?Do we want to contribute to help bring war dogs home? MHGRC has agreed to host a breakfast at the 2016 GRCA National. The date selected for our club to host is Saturday, BOB Day, October 8th. If you have ideas for breakfast items and/or you can help with the breakfast please let me know!
So far I’ve gotten input as to just having a continental type of breakfast with juice, coffee/tea, yogurt, bagels, mini cinnamon rolls, muffins and/or danishes.
Appreciate any and all input and especially volunteers that will be there to help host the breakfast.
Send info to Vickie Carson at [email protected] or give me a call 303-646-5908.

Membership dues update: seven yet to pay, one or two members dropped out.
Treasurer’s Report: Kathy Janda per Marcy Kathy Janda sent in a report:

Fun Match, not the Sunday. • The club has received the check from GRCA for the Western Regional and a separate account
has been set up.
Budget Events CommiNee Report: The commiUee would like to make the following recommenda;ons to the membership as a result of the survey:
1. A person has volunteered to chair a Hunt Test outside of the 8/13/16 Jr/SR Hunt test, to be held in 2016.
2. Recommends, star;ng 2017, the club hold one Hunt test to include the three stakes of Jr/Sr/Master and to hold the Test in September.
3. Recommends that the club con;nues to offer the WC/WCX yearly. 4. Recommends the club maintains our Master Na;onal Membership. 5. Recommends that the Obedience/Conforma;on/Hospitality trailer be replaced per Bruce
McLean’s proposal. 6. Also discussed: fund raining for the specialty. Pam Baird is looking into being able to hold a raffle
—class needed. Claire Caro is contac;ng other clubs in our region to donate gi_ baskets for a raffle.
7. Plan for the commiUee to meet in February to discuss increasing club par;cipa;on in working Agility Trials, follow-‐up discussions about fund raising/managing the amount of financial loss for the Specialty.
[ ]4
Conforma6on: Pam Baird per Marcy Pam Baird: There is a Greeley Breeders Showcase and they are asking MRGRC to donate $250. in support. The discussion was that we needed more informa;on before being able to make a decision. There will be more informa;on related to this on our website. A decision will be asked for at the March mee;ng, Field: Nancy Ego: Fun Field Day at Cobb Lake on January 31st. Agility: Jim Gregory: No Report Obedience: Francis Pusateri: No Report
Specialty Report: Kathy Bourland
• Angela McLean and Claire Caro submiUed the event applica;ons to AKC and we have approval.
• At least two of our judges will also be judges for the Greeley KC shows, thus reducing our expenses.
• Confident that Teddy Lei will be the photographer. • The Western artwork was received from Sara England, allowing us to start working on T-‐
shirts for sale this spring/summer. • On the publicity front: Sylvia/Anney D are crea;ng an Ad for the Jan/Feb edi;on of the GR
News. Leslie Blythe will launch the Western Facebook page 2/27/16. Ideas to be included, besides the judges, please let Leslie know.
• Marcy Werner has agreed to be the Raffle Queen and could use some help organizing, selling ;ckets. If you have Golden items or any irresis;ble raffle items, let Kathy Bourland know at [email protected].
Old Business: Discussion on the need to replace the old Conforma;on/Obedience/Hospitality Trailer: Mo;on to buy new, not used—by Don Carson, Seconded by Anne Shannon. Bruce McLean will be in charge of the purchase. Cost $3200-‐3400 + tax-‐per previous minutes.
Kay Walker: requested a visual of our financial picture—projected four years out. What do we recommend spending, what was our spending for 2015? Can we have this on our website? The trailer’s license plates are expiring, no;fica;ons sent to Deb Anderson. Kathy Janda can handle the renewals; use the club’s credit card to do so.
New Business: Novice A trophy: There is a proposal to change the direc;on of the trophy designee from the top scoring dog to any dog that receives the first Novice A ;tle. The trophy itself does not designate any specific rules. The membership present felt the first ;me Novice A ;tle winners are recognized with crate tags, Mile Hi bucks/glasses. At the end of the discussion, a vote was taken: all vo;ng members present voted to keep the trophy rules as is—with the top scoring dog to be recognized on the trophy, there were no opposing members. Francie Pusateri is the person to contact with your comments.

Awards Banquet: Sunday, April 17, 2016 Maggiano’s Restaurant 7401 S Clinton St Englewood, CO 80112 Cost: $27: Vicki and Don Carson have volunteered to collect the money and head count. Please send your checks to Vickie and Don at 5800 County Road 124 Elizabeth, CO 80107.
War Dogs: Vickie Carson spoke to the membership about the ar;cle in the gazeUe regarding the war dogs and how they are considered equipment and not solders. The cost to bring these dogs home is $3500. And more o_en than not, it does not happen and they are destroyed. Vickie asked that we go on-‐line –read about this and that we as a club look at dona;ng money for care packages to help care for the dogs while they are on duty, as well as donate money to bring dogs back. Be educated—informa;on will be in the newsleUer. There will be a decision at the March mee;ng. Don Carson moved to make the recommenda;on and Bruce McLean seconded the mo;on.
Membership List: Communica6on Issues: Membership discussion regarding the fact that we do not readily have available the membership list as a means of communica;ng with one another. The current website does not have the “members only” sec;on. Per Marcy, we do not have the exper;se to maintain it and we would need to pay for that service. The discussion moved to re-‐insta;ng the Yahoo Group-‐one that func;oned as user friendly, as many members in the past had issues being assigned to the group. This would require an administrator, but has many benefits.
Membership Mee6ng ANendance: Bylaws state: “Mee;ng of the Club shall be held approximately every other month in or within fi_y miles of the city of Denver at such hour and place as may be designated by the Board of Directors.” Discussion on low aUendance: ideas welcome

Our Spring trial will be April 1-3, 2016. The calendar keeps backing us up, so soon we will have to jump forwards a week. The Summer trial has been set up, and will be July 8-10. At that trial we will be adding the newest AKC class, Premier.
Premier classes are more difficult than the Master ones. They have more difficult angles and sequences, and usually have a back side jump. This is where the dog must pass the jump the handler is headed for, take the jump toward the direction it came from, then usually wrap around to continue the flow in the same general direction. There may be harder weave entrances, too. Theses course are beautiful to watch when done well. Premier is
available in Standard and in Jumpers courses.
AKC amended the rules concerning Premier classes so that when a Standard and a Jumpers Premier class qualifications are earned, they
can be used to subtract one double Q from the total needed to qualify for
Nationals. These do not have to be earned on the same day. It’s a great addition to the growing variety of agility classes to keep us busy at trials!
