COUNSELOR’S CORNER

March’s Character Education Trait

“Perseverance”

To persevere means to complete a task even when it becomes boring, difficult, or discouraging. Help your child to set goals for themselves and encourage them to work hard toward their goals. Those who show perseverance develop a “never-give-up” attitude in overcoming obstacles they come up against, and do not give up easily. Talk to your child about how choosing to keep trying, takes a lot of courage and perseverance, when it would be so much easier to just give up.

News from the

RPS TEAM Bench Nurses…

Head Lice … Yikes!!!

Tips for Prevention

Once again head lice are finding their way into our school on our young students’ heads. Even though we cannot ensure that your child will not get head lice there are some steps you can take to prevent it.

1. Watch for signs of head lice. Itching and scratching

are the cardinal signs of head lice.

2. Check your child’s head regularly. If you find lice

you will need to begin treatment right away. If you

have any questions don’t hesitate to see the school

nurse. Don’t spend a lot of money because head lice

can be completely controlled by manual removal alone.

Remember every nit (egg) will need to be removed

from your child’s head to prevent reinfestation.

3. Regularly brush and groom your child’s hair. Use

hair bands, barrettes, pigtails and braids to keep long

hair in place. Hair sprays and styling gels can be applied

to both girls and boys hair and will help keep the lice

out. Hair products with Tea Tree oil have been shown

to repel head lice. Shampooing alone is not a guarantee

as lice actually like clean hair because they can move

around easily!

4. Check your child’s head after a sleepover with

friends or relatives. Direct head-to-head contact is the

main way head lice are transmitted. They are also

spread by the sharing of personal items such as combs,

brushes, scarves, hats, headphones, sleeping bags and

stuffed animals. Teach your children to not share

these items.

5. Cleaning up at home is important but you don’t

need to spend hours on end cleaning. Head lice need

human blood to survive so focusing on your child’s

head is most important.

Dr. Seuss Week (March 3-7)

We will be celebrating

Dr. Seuss in honor of

his birthday this week!

Monday: “The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins” – You may wear a hat to school! It can be awesome or it can be cool!

Tuesday: “The Cat in the Hat” – Thing 1 and Thing 2 have hair that is blue, but their clothes are red, so you wear red too!

Wednesday: “Wacky Wednesday” – Dress WaCkY!! Almost anything goes – hair, shoes and clothes that do not match – wild, different colors!

Thursday: “The Foot Book” – How many kinds of feet will we meet? What will you wear on your feet today? Will your feet dress in a normal or crazy way? Clown feet, pig feet, fuzzy fur feet! We can’t wait to greet all of the feet we will meet!

Friday: “Happy Birthday to You!” – I wish we could do what they do in Katroo. They sure know how to say “Happy Birthday to You!” Wear your party clothes so we can get loose and say, “Happy Birthday to our dear Dr. Seuss!”

March is Music In Our Schools Month

We will celebrate with music on Friday, March 21st with

a performance by "Grandpa & the Tiger Band"

in the RPS Gym during the students’ Activity time.

Parents please remember … Do not drop your off children ANYWHERE but in the front of the school by the gym.

You may PARK and walk them in but otherwise, for their safety, children cannot be walking

through the parking lot or on the sidewalks without you.
