It has been a wonderful couple of months so far and we still have a lot of the year left. Jennifer and I have been so honored to be invited to and attend many

functions both Masonic and Shrine. We attended the Alexandria Shrine Club Valentine’s party and had a wonderful time. Jennifer and I sat with 4 wonderful women (Widows) during the lunch and I cannot tell you how proud I was to listen to how involved they still are. These are women who lost their Noble but the Alexandria Shriners have not lost them. This is something I have seen throughout Osman with most of the units, however it is not commonplace in other Temples and this is one more thing that Makes Osman the BEST SHRINE TEMPLE in all of SHRINEDOM. I have been at 8 Masonic installations so far this year and am so excited to see all these Lodges installing officers with hair and color in their hair (other than gray like mine or white). Noble Mike Yankovec is working very hard at some Great new

Membership initiatives that will help drive up the membership of Osman. Your MSA elected representatives all returned safely from MSA winter in Sioux Falls (thanks to Mike Nehm and Al Christofk driving and keeping us safe during the Blizzard). The summer 2014 MSA promises to be one of the best ever thanks to the Great planning of Potentate Rob Joyce from El Riad and his team. We have had great interest so far in the Potentates trip to the Black Hills, Deadwood and Rapid City. The limit of passengers is 48 and to bring a second bus we need 30 additional. Get your reservations and deposit in early so we can book off the rooms. Jennifer and I, like many of you, attended the Celebration of Life of one of my great friends. Nancy Fish is the first person many of us met as we joined as she was right there with a camera. Noble Jerry Payne lost his wife, partner and friend and we all lost a very special friend. Nancy was someone that was involved and engaged in everything the units did as a social member and a friend. Nancy is someone that really meant a lot to many of us and meant a lot to Me. Please keep Jerry in your

thoughts and Prayers. March 27 – 30 is the 91st Osman Shrine Circus and Jeff Olsen needs our help. With the team he has assembled to advertise and promote the circus, he will need all of our help as this could be the biggest Circus in many years. March 11th is the Stated Meeting which will be packed with information on the new programs and upcoming events and I really would like to see a great turn out. We will have details on the next few months’ events and much more so I hope to see you then.

Yours in Faith Roger H. BergePotentate 2014

The Chief’s CornerHappy Spring!!!

Well, we have to keep thinking positive, right?? I don’t know about all of you, but we are ready for Spring.

On a personal note, I would like to take a

moment to thank all of the Nobles and Ladies who came to say their good-bye’s to our dear friend Nancy Fish, and to show their love and support to Noble Jerry Payne. Nancy’s smile will be missed at every Osman parade and function, but we know she is with us in our hearts always. I would also like to take a moment to remember PP Earl Holcomb as the Black Camel has also paid him a visit. Rest in Peace Illustrious Sir.

Mighty MitesGreetings from the Mighty Mites

The Mighty Mites are happy to report that we are off to another great year in the name of fun with a purpose. We, like other clubs and units, meet monthly throughout the year allowing us to focus on the busy Shrine year ahead and the opportunities we are afforded. Beyond our past meetings, we have just concluded our first parade of 2014. Yes, the Mighty Mites took part in the St. Paul Winter Carnival parade along with the other units of the Osman Shrine Temple. It may have been extremely cold, but the warmth we generate by the gathering of our members takes away the sting of the sub zero temperatures.

Highlight number one of this year’s Winter Carnival was the warm hospitality room that was shared by the Mighty Mites and the Sheiks. While the weather outside was frightful, cold and snowy, the Sheiks and Mighty Mites shared quality time together Friday and Saturday with friends and family. Highlight number two was the Mighty Mite car mounted on the front of Burt Rovners truck with Shrine and Mighty Mites flags waving on a cold windy day. Highlight number three was the

presence of Osman Temple at this special event. Again, the presence of Shriners speaks volumes to our community as to our commitment to those whom we have chosen to serve.

Mighty Mites Web Site The Mighty Mites are happy to announce that our new web site has been recently published and placed online. We are now found by our new domain name, osmanshrinemightymites.org.

You will find our site by the above address or by connecting through the Osman Shrine web site.

Nancy Fish “It goes without saying”, is a phrase that we use all too often. With that in mind, we are faced with attempting to put into words what Nancy meant to the Osman Temple, its clubs, units and its members. Every Mighty Mite fully understood the impact she made with our brotherhood. My guess would be that every club and unit felt she “liked their unit the best”. I know we do! We also know that she made a true difference with every one of our clubs and units. Our point being, she treated every member of this organization with the same warmth

and compassion you could share with another person.

In this journey we call life, we are given a chance to spend time with many people that make us better people. Knowing Nancy has truly been a blessing to every member of the Mighty Mites.

Rochester Area Shrine ClubNobles and Ladies,

Hello once again from the slightly cold city of Rochester! We are all hoping for a turnaround in the weather soon! I send this newsletter out this month knowing

that we had to postpone our Sweetheart’s ball this year due to the untimely death of my father on January 30th. I want to thank everyone that took time to come and pay their respects and everyone who has sent cards, it is very much appreciated by me and my entire family. We will be rescheduling the ball, and I

will update everyone on the new date and time soon!

I want to remind everyone about our upcoming annual spring fundraiser with Herbergers Community Days February 28th through March 1st. We will be selling books at Herbergers entrance in the Apache Mall in Rochester on both days, hope that we can get a bunch of Nobles, clowns and Baby Chang to help out both days. Please contact me if you are able to assist either day. We are going to be selling from 10:00 am till Noon each day. We also have booklets available for purchase prior to the event, see any RASC member or contact me at

[email protected] to get your books, $5 each and they have HUGE savings inside that more than offset your $5 investment! Your continued support for this RASC fundraiser is greatly appreciated.

The next RASC meeting will be March 5th at the Rochester Clarion Inn in the shrine room at 7:00pm, hope we have another great turnout like we had in January!

News

On behalf of the Provost Unit, I proudly mentioned in the last Provost Update that Provost Gary Winter, at the January 2014 Annual meeting, was elected to serve a three year term as Trustee. He had previously served in an appointed role in this capacity. Provost members are also proud of the fact that Richard Johnson is serving as an ongoing Trustee and in fact, is the Trustee President. As elected officers, the Trustees possess the important task

of overseeing Osman Shrine properties. As an example of their work, they are currently monitoring the expansion of the Lost Spur parking lot.

The St. Paul Winter Carnival Parade held on Saturday, January 25 was a blast (or shall I say an Arctic blast down West 7th Street!). Several Provosts worked at the Oasis preparing snacks, etc. and Provost oversight of the parking lot was well staffed. Despite the chilly/windy day, many St. Paulites, bundled in heavy coats and face masks, were standing along the parade route showing their enthusiastic appreciation for Osman Shrine. Lots of circus flyers and tickets were distributed to the attendees and Provost Captain Seavey was among those handling this task. The smiles and hand-waving from those watching the parade made a bit of cold weather worth the effort! If you are a Facebook follower, you likely saw several pictures posted of

Osman Shrine in action! It was nice to be able to be a part of the great tradition of the St. Paul Winter Carnival.

The Osman Club and Unit Seminar was held on Saturday, February 1 at the Twin Cities Shriners Hospital for Children. Provosts in attendance were Russ Christofk, Gary Winter, Tom West and Richard Johnson. Topics covered included, among others: personal and Osman owned vehicle insurance, Osman Shrine budget and membership recruitment. The 2014 parade schedule was also presented. Osman Shrine will participate in the South St. Paul, Lakeville, White Bear Avenue, River Falls and MSA parades in Sioux Falls.

On behalf of the Osman Provost Unit, condolences are extended to Jerry Payne on the loss of his wife, Nancy Fish. Nancy’s graphic and photographic talents were without bounds, and her work and passion for Freemasonry and

its allied bodies are greatly missed.

We are also sad to report the passing of Provost member Earl Holcomb. He was a Past Potentate of Osman Shrine and had received numerous Masonic honors included being Coroneted as a 330 Mason of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.

2014 Provost Annual Dues

There are still a few Provosts who have not paid their 2014 dues. Annual Provost dues for 2014, in the amount of $15.00, should be sent to Jerry Johnson as soon as possible. To those Provosts who are current on your dues, thank you for doing so!

Albert Lea Shrine Club and Albert Lea CarsGreetings Nobles, Ladies and Friends,

The 2014 Annual Club and Unit meeting at the Shriner’s Hospital was informative and impressive. To listen to our “Leaders” with what they presented us with gave me a wonderful feeling to be a Shriner. To hear our 2014 Potentate Roger Berge speak was inspirational and enlightening. “BACK TO THE BASICS” is his theme. Remember were we came from and were we’re going to. The purpose of our mission as was the mission of all whom have gone before us. To build our MEMBERSHIP. To

support our many causes especially the SHRINER’S HOSPITALS. All in all the annual Club and Unit meeting was a great kick off for the year 2014. I can’t help but remember one of the greatest phases I’ve ever heard, “Isn’t it great to be a SHRINER”. To travel the hot sands with so many wonderful men can’t help but make you proud of yourself.

Alexandria Shrine Club and 4 WheelersWinter is almost

over so we can start the warmer parades, right?! Our parade season officially started at the Winter Carnival Parade but that one was a bit chilly and

I am looking forward to those warmer parades! Winter Carnival we complain that we are too cold and then the summer parades come and we complain that we are too hot...there is no happy medium.

Our Valentine’s Brunch was a fantastic day. It was filled with wonderful fellowship, meeting new people and of course, TONS of laughter! I want to thank Illustrious Sir Roger Berge and his Lady Jennifer for coming up along with the many other Divan and guests that

also came. It was great seeing both vans coming up and being filled! Noble Jim Gratias asked Amelia Golde to make a video in memory of Nancy (Fish) Payne, and Amelia did what she was asked to do and made a wonderful video in memory of Nancy. The video was shown at the Valentine’s Brunch and was heart touching. Anyone that wants to see it or have a copy, contact her, myself or Jim Gratias and we can get you one. Amelia got a wonderful idea from a Divan member (who will go unknown) to make a Mickey Mouse Fez for our dear Jim Gratias. If you know Amelia, once you give her an idea, she will pursue that idea to the fullest. So, she pursued that idea and presented it at the Valentine’s Brunch with the help of Illustrious Sir Roger, (It’s amazing how she can ask any Shriner to do something and he will always agree, no matter how evil the plan). She gave

a little speech that she came up with, that had everyone laughing, and when she asked Jim to come up, his facial expression was priceless. He had the most confused look on and had no idea what Amelia had going on. As Amelia was reading, Illustrious Sir Roger removed Jim’s Divan Fez and “re-fezzed” Jim, I mean, Mickey Mouse with his Mickey Mouse Fez. Amelia had Jim speechless, which is an amazing task to do!

“Jim, you are the Mickey Mouse of Osman now, and there is nothing that will ever change that!” ~Amelia Golde

Rochester Dragon PatrolGreetings Nobles and Ladies,

First off we would like to congratulate Illustrious Sir Roger Berge, our Potentate for 2014. We would also like to congratulate the Divan members for moving up into their new roles, and to newly appointed Outer Guard Jim Gratias, our Divan Representative.

Well, we wrapped up 2013 with our Christmas Party on January 24th, 2014 at the Willow Creek Golf Course. It was a cold, windy and snowy night. We had a nice turnout and a great event. Thanks to all who attended. Our new Divan Representative Jim Gratias along with Amelia Golde came all the way from Alexandria. Amelia read her essay on Parade Etiquette, Great job! Thanks to both of you.

Congratulations to Al Shufelt who

was presented the “Dragon of the Year” award for 2013! We also had Installation of Officers for 2014, They are as follows: Dan Rasmussen, President; Jake Rasmussen, Vice President; Larry Norte, Sargent at Arms; Art Pavlish, Secretary; and Bert Aikens, Treasurer. Pictures from the evening are located on our web site under the Christmas Party icon.

We would like to recognize three Nobles of the Dragon Patrol who are Worshipful Masters of their Lodge this year: Dan Nash, Rochester Lodge #21; Pat Johnson, Kasson-Mantorville Lodge #11; and Doug Brick, Stewartville Lodge #203. Congratulations Brothers!

With Chang still in hibernation, it is shaping up to be a busy 2014. We already have a number of requests for parades, and before we know it parade season will be here. In 2013 we attended

a record 31 parades. That is a lot of work! Thank you to all the Nobles who help make that possible and especially to the Ladies for their support and understanding!

We would like to offer our sympathy to Dragon Patrol member Dick Navratil on the death of his lady Jan who passed away on January 17th. Please keep Dick and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Our next meeting is February 26th 2014 in the Shrine Room at the Clarion in Rochester.

Check us out at www.rochesterdragon.com and Rochester Dragon on Facebook.

Austin Area Shrine Club & Oriental BandSince the first of the

year we’ve been active with pancakes breakfasts at the Lodge the first Saturday of each month, participating in the Installation for Ill Sir Roger Berge, attendance

at the Officers Seminar held at the Shrine Hospital for Children, and the sale of Circus Banners and Plaques.

In addition, Nobles Dan Hernandez and Riley Brosma participated in the Polar Plunge as part of Austin’s Paint the Town Pink (PTTP) celebration, on Sat. February 15. Fidelity Lodge along with the Shrine Club & Oriental Band, sponsored them. Money raised during the week-long PTTP activities goes to the Hormel Institute and is used for Cancer Research projects.

The February 13th meeting was held at Lansing Corners Supper Club located

North of Austin. A buffet dinner was enjoyed by all. President Brad Stout presided at the meeting, and business items included sponsoring Nobles Dan and Riley in the February 15th Polar Plunge and voting to make a monetary donation supporting them. A grant will be submitted to Minnesota Masonic Charities for a match, along with the pledge from Fidelity Lodge. Several members attended to show our support and to promote our organizations.

As the February issue of the Osman had arrived this week, and the Oriental Band was pictured on the front cover, it was a little hard to get our Fezes on. What a nice photo, and our thanks to the photographer, Anders Haugen and Doreen for the great job with the publication.

Noble Otto Volkert gave an update on the sale of Circus Banners and Plaques, and officers attending the Osman Officers

Seminar gave reports on items of concern. Noble Neil Hanson gave an update on the tentative parade schedule for 2014, and Noble Bill Newell reported that toys from the Salvation Army have been loaded and will be taken to the Shrine Hospital in the near future.

Discussion also took place about having the Oriental Band conduct some of their winter practice sessions at Nursing Homes in Austin. It appears that doing this on Saturday afternoons would work better for the establishments.

Information about the March meeting will come from the calling committee. President Stout will check into possible meeting places.

ChantersThe Chanters sing “Thank you

and Farewell” to our good friend and Honorary member Nancy Fish. We will miss her happy presence.

February has come to an end and Valentine’s Day has come and gone. Surely hope everybody had a joyous day with loved ones. We can now look forward to some warmer weather and sunshine to cheer us up. The Chanters had a Valentine luncheon a day early on

the 13th at Champps on 7th Street. It’s great to have a group of people enjoy getting together just for conversation and fun.

In February we had the Club and Unit Seminar at the hospital. What a lot of information was given out. Now the problem is to remember to use it.

With the Circus coming in March, we all need to get out there and sell banners and tickets, and then work the shows.

Hope to see you there.

We still are in desperate need of a pianist….

May joy and peace surround you

Contentment latch your door

And happiness be with you now

And bless you ever more.

Legion of HonorPatrol What a great Winter

Carnival Parade we had! The fellowship kept us all warm on a rather cold day in MN. Thanks to all the Nobles who came and carried colors and to Marv Wolf for driving my truck with

more colors! Our February meeting was planned for the 7th St Social again with our ladies; however they had to cancel due to double booking! We revised our plans somewhat to the Mendota VFW for just the guys to cover the info from the Club and Unit mtg and start the Circus planning. Door prizes were given out and the results will be in the April newsletter! Commander Moore attended the Feb 11th Circus meeting and shared this with his fellow LOH Nobles. If any Nobles, or their ladies, family etc need winter jackets to help at the gates for the Circus let me know as soon as you can. We have some jackets with old lettering that are just fine for the front gates and will help keep our volunteers warm. If you have one of the new LOH winter jackets and are not going to use it please also let me know so we can borrow it in case we need it to carry colors on the floor.

Our “Updated” Calendar for the next few months is;

March 20th will be at O-Gara’s; Circus Circus Circus will be the topic.

April 17th we are going to the 7th St Social to celebrate our ladies, the Circus

volunteers and the delayed recognition of over 150 years of service the Legion.

May 15th will be at the Lost Spur, if open, for meeting and practice for Acacia on Memorial Day

June at the Spur and July will be our annual outing with the Potentate, Divan and our families.

All these are subject to review and change as the members want.

Noble and WB Dave Barker recently underwent surgery for prostate cancer. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

The Legion of Honor is looking for a backup vehicle in the event our primary vehicle owned by our Treasurer Jim Smeby is unavailable. A pickup that can tow 4klbs or a Excursion/Suburban perhaps?? We can provide a driver. Please contact any officer if you think you could help.

Osman only has good men! The Legion is only looking for those good men who feel a patriotic calling to honor their country and Osman Shrine. If interested please contact any of our officers.

We would like to welcome our new Divan Rep Larry Norte!

With Pride and Honor,Commander Jim Moore

Plan Now to Attend the 2014 Imperial Session in Minneapolis

The 2014 Imperial Session is scheduled for July 6-10, 2014, in Minneapolis. Named one of the “world’s cleanest cities” by MSN, Minneapolis has an array of offerings for every guest. Come visit where “nature meets skyscrapers!”

Minneapolis, in addition to being one of the “world’s cleanest cities,” is also home to many world-class museums and theaters. Visitors can enjoy a variety of shows in the Tony Award-winning Guthrie Theater, discover wonders at the Science Museum of Minnesota and marvel at the Walker Art Center, one of the best contemporary art museums in the country, according to Newsweek.

Noted for its architectural blending of glass and steel, travelers are encouraged to see Minneapolis’ beauty from a variety of vantage points through the city’s various tours. For those who love to shop, Minneapolis is home to Mall of America, the country’s largest shopping complex. The city is also the site of both Target’s flagship store and a Macy’s that covers more than 400,000 square feet.

Recognized by the American Fitness Index as the “Fittest City in America,” Minneapolis has noteworthy parks that offer a variety of outdoor activities, including canoeing, biking and skating. If you’re willing to travel just a bit, about an hour away from the city there is even an opportunity to drive a military tank! Minneapolis is also home to several sports teams at the both the professional and amateur levels. From ice hockey to baseball, there’s a game and a team to cheer for!

For those who enjoy the night life, Minneapolis offers some of the nation’s best restaurants, such as Hell’s Kitchen and Solera Restaurant and Event Center, comedy theaters, and cafés. On the first Thursday of every month, the city’s art district opens its doors to offer live entertainment, art shows and gallery tours.

Dear Fellow Nobles,

When I assumed the role of your Imperial Potentate last July, I made a promise to each of you that I would do everything I could to implement the programs and initiatives needed to help us achieve our goals, especially strengthening, energizing and increasing membership. In turn, I am seeing a new and eager nobility, willing to invest their time and energy in these efforts. On behalf of Shriners International, I thank you for your hard work and dedication to ensuring the future growth and success of our great fraternity.

As we celebrate Legacy Month, I encourage you to share your thoughts on what being a Shriner means in your life with your family members. We may often forget to share our stories of brotherhood, fellowship and philanthropy with those closest to us; speaking with our family and friends is a great way to spark interest in the fraternity and contribute to our membership efforts.

The Pace Program: Setting the Pace for a Strong Future is off to a great start. To date, more than 30 temples have inquired about the program, and nine have completed their initial meeting, including Tangier Shriners in Omaha, Neb. “Our initial meeting with Imperial Sir Sowder was informative and inspirational,” said Tangier Recorder Don Larson. “We came out of the meeting with sound and positive plans concerning membership and mentorship.”

I urge every temple to take part in this initiative. Temples that have completed their initial kick-off meeting with an Imperial Officer are now developing customized membership strategies to improve their retention rates and increase temple membership. For more information about the Pace Program, please contact the membership

development office at [email protected].

In addition to our membership goals, providing new methods of effective communication is of primary importance. As well as launching a new fraternal publication in December, we have also made direct communication with the members of the Imperial Oversight Committee accessible to the nobility. The group is tasked with reviewing fundraising and committee activities throughout the fraternity to ensure accuracy and efficiency. It is our hope that providing additional methodsof communication will increase your confidence in our desire to be open and available to you. Please remember you are part of a large organization, and sometimes clear communication is not as easy as we would like. Please also remember that we all are expected to adhere to the Masonic principles, including brotherly love and truth. We promise you that whatever your questions and concerns may be, they will be addressed.

To contact the committee, please e-mail one of the following members:

Jim Cain, Chairman ([email protected]);

Bob Burroughs, Member ([email protected]);

Jack English, Member ([email protected]);

Chuck Baer, Member ([email protected])

Jay Morris, Member ([email protected]).

We began the year by participating in a highly successful and popular event. On New Year’s Day, Shriners Hospitals for Children® was represented in the Tournament of Roses Parade withour float entitled, Love to the rescue®. More than 44.8 million households watched on television, and nearly half a

million people were reached via our social media page. That is an incredible amountof attention and awareness for our philanthropy. On behalf of Shriners International, I would like to thank all the volunteers and staff who dedicated countless hours to assemble our float, which received the Volunteer’s Trophy for Best Floral Design. I would especially like to thank Past Imperial Potentate, Nick Thomas of Al Malaikah Shriners in Los Angeles for reducing our costs by $35,000 in comparison to last year.

Stepping off the parade route and on to the East-West Shrine Game gridiron, the 89th college all-star football game was also successful. Nearly 20,000 fans were in attendance, and cheered as the East team won 23-13. The game was televised live on NFL Network, raising even more awareness for both our health care system and fraternity. Thank you to all our nobles, ladies, volunteers and staff for making this event a success.

I am confident that, in working together, we will continue to make great progress, and will reach our goals. I am honored to lead this great organization and blessed to work with such dedicatedbrothers.

Yours in the faith,

John A. CinottoImperial PotentateSetting the Pace for a Strong Future

Say Kids What Time Is It? – It Is Show Time!

Believe it or not, the 2014 St. Paul Osman Shrine Circus is just a couple of weeks away! The preparation for this year’s circus has been the craziest ever, but when you see the show, I think you will agree that it was all worth it!

This year’s performance will be heavy with BOTH ANIMAL AND THRILL acts. Most of your favorite entertainment is back and all in the same show!

For animals, we have riding and performing elephants, lions, tigers, a rare male lion, trained dogs and a comedy horse act, and riding ponies and camels.

For thrill acts, we have the wheel of destiny, motorcycle incline, the globe of death, the human rocket, AND the

FMX riders!

Combine that with real flying trapeze, multiple old-fashioned 3-ring displays, two clown acts, aerial artists, and The Chicago Boyz, and we have an unduplicated assembly of the greatest talent available!

Circus Director Jeff Olsen has truly outdone himself this time!

That’s the show, but of course the rest of the different departments have been busy too. There is new and refurbished equipment in the food and cotton candy areas. The finance room and ticket system have improved processes. The give-away bicycles have arrived, the ticket takers, novelty booths, ushers, follow-me ladies, R&R room, manpower, Clowns, pipe and drape

crew, Provost, phones, advertising, ticket counters, and the literally hundreds of Shriners, Ladies, and friends that really make the show work are all ready to go!

If you have a regular circus job, we’ll see you there! If you don’t know what to do – see the manpower sign-up sheet in this issue. There is plenty of choices for everybody!

This year truly has the potential to be our best circus ever! So dust off your fez and come enjoy

“The hardest fun you will ever have!”

See you in the center ring!

Mat-Sha Temple No. 62, Daughters of the NileNobles and Ladies,

Hello once again from the slightly cold city of Rochester! We are all hoping for a turnaround in the weather soon! I send this newsletter out this month knowing that we had to postpone our Sweetheart’s ball this year due to the untimely death of my father on January 30th. I want to thank everyone that took time to come and pay their respects and everyone who has sent cards, it is very much appreciated by me and my entire family. We will be rescheduling the ball, and I will update everyone on the new date and time soon!

We also have booklets available for purchase prior to the event, see any RASC member or contact me at [email protected] to get your books,

$5 each and they have HUGE savings inside that more than offset your $5 investment! Your continued support for this RASC fundraiser is greatly appreciated.

The next RASC meeting will be March 5th at the Rochester Clarion Inn in the shrine room at 7:00pm, hope we have another great turnout like we had in January!Greetings!

Another month has passed and here I am writing to you. The page feels particularly blank and honestly, it is difficult for me to write this article. As you may know, our dear Princess Nancy Fish has been the driving force behind the Daughters of the Nile article from it’s beginnings. Having this article at all was her brain-child and she treated our articles with great care. She always made Mat-Sha look so good!!! I believe that the hardest thing I have done this term, is say goodbye to Pr. Nancy. She has been a kind friend since my days in Job’s Daughters. She was always the friendly face who could make all your worries disappear. She loved Daughters of the Nile and all of our members. I know that many of our ladies have similar stories of Pr. Nancy’s laugh and her love for the people around her. We have been so very blessed, not only to have her talents as publicist, but more importantly to share

friendship and love.

January ended with a blast of cold and a blast of fun. Pr. Sarah Mobroten hosted a great Ladies Night at Lillian’s in Farmington. We shopped, had snacks and got some fashion advice from their friendly staff. February has been yet another cold month, but our hearts have been warmed by the love we have shared. Thank you to all of the Nobles of Osman who made Pr. Sarah Mobroten and me feel welcome at the Club and Unit Seminar. We had a wonderful time learning about what you all are doing and sharing our Organization and good news with all of you. Thank you to the Ladies who assisted me in honoring our dear Pr. Nancy Fish with the Daughters of the Nile Memorial Service. PQ Heather Krastins-Lambert (Pr. Royal), PQ Jane Larson (Pr. Tirzah), Pr. Kim Beslin (Pr. Badoura) PQ Gooch Krastins-McKinnon (Pr. Chaplain). Thank you for your dedication to our Order and our friend.

On February 15th we held our Winter Ceremonial. It was a great day and we are proud of our new members (see picture). We had a wonderful luncheon served by Noble/Chef Al & Pr. Jeannine Porter with the assistance of Noble Mike Horn. We could not do what we do without their help and hospitality.

It is always fun to welcome new ladies to our order. These new ladies bring a great energy. It is my hope and prayer that they will find us friends and that Daughters of the Nile will be a source of joy and strength for all of them. Remember you can propose a lady for membership at any time. Proposals are available from Pr. Recorder Heather Krastins-Lambert ([email protected] or 651-332-2121).

Supreme Session is coming fast! This year we will be congregating in Omaha, NE from June 1-5th. The deadline for Registration is March 31st. Registration packets are available from www.daughtersofthenile.com or through Pr. Recorder Heather Krastins-Lambert. This is a great year to go, as Supreme Session is being held closer than it has been in many years. As a special 100th Anniversary event, the Supreme Officers are going to perform a Ceremonial. All Subordinate temples are encouraged to bring candidates for the Ceremonial. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to Join our Order at Supreme Session???? Contact Pr. Recorder Heather Krastins-Lambert for more information.

Keep your eyes out for information on Flag Unit plans for practices as we will plan to perform in Omaha. If you would like to take part in the Flag Unit, contact Pr. Sarah Mobroten or me for more information. All Ladies of the Household are welcome.

I hope to see you soon.

Dear Auxiliary Members and Friends of the Auxiliary,

We tried something new this year and had our first event in February. We had a Valentine’s Luncheon at the Lost Spur/Osman Event Center on Feb. 8. It was a fabulous event. Our guest speaker, Roger Hellesvig, took us back in time. He portrayed Ole Oleson and told us what it was like for a family to immigrate to the United States from Norway. His story was based on the fact that each family was only allowed to bring with them what they could fit into one trunk. It was very enlightening to find out what would be the most important items to include in that trunk. The presentation was fascinating. We were very pleased that so many of you were able to attend and that some of you brought guests.

The Ladies Auxiliary received a wonderful surprise from Illustrious Sir Roger Berge who put $500 in his budget to give directly to the Osman Womens Auxiliary. Illustrious Sir Roger presented this check to the Auxiliary at this event. What a great way to start our year! This donation will definitely help us provide more mobility equipment for our children at Shriners Hospital for Children – Twin Cities. Thank you Illustrious Sir Roger for this wonderful gift. We so appreciate all the support we receive from all the Nobles and their

Ladies.

On behalf of the Auxiliary, Linda Johnson presented Illustrious Sir Roger Berge with a Wheaties Box with his Potentate’s picture on it, and a heart bracelet for the Potentate’s Lady Jennifer. Thank you Linda Johnson and Marjorie Park for planning and hosting this wonderful event!! We all had a great time and the food was delicious.

For the third year in a row, the

Womens General Auxiliary was invited to participate in the “Hands on Volunteer Expo” at the Mall of America, on Saturday, Feb. 15. This event provides an opportunity for non-profit vendors to display information about their organizations and bring

awareness to the general public. It was a great day for our Auxiliary. We were able to talk with many people about our organization and Shriners Hospital for Children – Twin Cities. It is incredible how many people are not aware of Shriners Hospital for Children – Twin Cities and the fabulous service they provide. We had an awesome booth with our DVD playing, sample prosthetics for people to hold, a large poster displaying the Shrine Hospital, lots of information to distribute regarding our Hospital and our Auxiliary, and candy for all. Osman Shrine also provided Circus flyers and Circus tickets to give away.

Marjorie Park, who is the Chairman of the Womens General Auxiliary Board and a very active member of the Osman Womens Auxiliary Board, organized everything for our participation in this event. Thank you, Marjorie for doing such a terrific job organizing this event and for everything you consistently do for our Auxiliary. Thank you also to the following members of Osman Womens Auxiliary who volunteered their time to man the booth: Marjorie Park, Linda Johnson, Kathy Flicek, Carol Miner, who is also on the Womens General Auxiliary Board and Linda Metzger who is on the Womens General Auxiliary. We were able to tell many people about

the fantastic work that our Hospital does, and the great work our Auxiliary does for the patients at the Hospital.

Our Womens Auxiliary could not do the great work we do without the fantastic support of the Nobles and their wives. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts! The longer I am in this job, the more touched I am by the generosity of the Nobles and their wives.

You will soon be receiving your invitation to our second Auxiliary event for 2014, the third annual Auxiliary

sponsored BUNCO party on Thursday evening, April 3, at the Lost Spur/Osman Event Center. This event is for everyone! Dinner will begin at 6:00 PM with BUNCO play following at 7:00 PM. Bring your friends and neighbors. It really is a fun evening with an opportunity to win prizes.

Please mark your calendars now for the remaining Auxiliary events for 2014: May 3, Sept. 27, Oct. 25, and Dec. 6. We are looking forward to an exciting 2014! You won’t want to miss any of

these great events.

I will be looking forward to seeing many of you at the Osman Shrine Circus. Again, it is a pleasure and honor to serve as your Chairman. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me

SHC is pleased to introduce former SHC patient and award-winning actor RJ Mitte as a national Love to the Rescue Ambassador for their 2014 Love to the Rescue campaign. Mitte will share his personal story of receiving both treatment for cerebral palsy and encouragement to accept no limits to living with a disability through a series of Public Service Announcements and other appearances through the year.

Throughout February, RJ Mitte

invites the public to join him by sending their Love to the Rescue to the children by making a donation to SHC, at www.lovetotherescue.org. Supporters can also post a belated Valentine’s Day note to the Wall of Love that will be shared with the patients at SHC.

At the age of 3, Mitte was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, a neurological condition affecting muscle tone, movement, and coordination. He was referred to the SHC – Shreveport by a member of the Shriners International who noticed him walking on his toes. To correct his walking, the orthopaedic experts at SHC recommended a casting procedure instead of an invasive surgery, which had been recommended by other doctors. Mitte was treated by the medical experts and physical therapy specialists at SHC for most

of his childhood, and, as a result, overcame many of the physical and verbal effects of cerebral palsy.

“I can’t thank Shriners Hospitals for Children enough for what they did to help me overcome the effects of cerebral palsy. Had it not been for my doctors and therapists, I would not be walking and talking as well as I am today, “ said RJ Mitte. “I know first-hand that Shriners Hospitals for Children is a special place where kids are given a life of possibilities because they send Love to the Rescue every day.“

We are honored by RJ’s ambassadorial role for our kids. You are urged to join RJ, his many friends, and other Shriners in the Love to the Rescue program with a donation to our website www.lovetotherescue.org.
