Fixed Lines and Mobile Subscriptions
The number of fixed line and mobile�subscriptionswas100.49millionattheendofQ12012,comparedto83.52millionattheendofQ12011,withanannual increaseof16.97millionsubscriptionandanannualgrowthrateof20.32%.
Thenumberofmobilesubscriptionswas91.92�million at the end of Q1 2012, comparedto 73.87million at the end of Q1 2011. Thisrepresentsanannualincreaseof18.05millionsubscriptions and an annual growth rate of24.43%. Mobile subscriptions accounted for91.5%oftotaltelephoneservicesubscriptionsattheendofQ12012.
Fixed Line and Mobile Penetration
Mobile penetration increased to 112.67% at�theendofQ12012, compared to 94.13%atthe end of Q1 2011, representing an annualgrowth rate of 18.54% . On the other hand,fixed line penetration reached about 10.68%bytheendofQ12012.

Fixed Lines Subscriptions and Local Exchange Capacity
Total number of fixed line subscriptions has�reached8.57millionsubscriptionsattheendofQ12012comparedto9.65millionsubscriptionsattheendofQ12011.
The capacity of local exchanges increased�to 14.62million lines at the end of Q1 2012,compared to 14.53 million at the end of Q12011. This represents an annual increase of0.09millionlinesandanannualgrowthrateof0.59%.
Thetotalnumberoffixedlinesubscriptionsin�urbanareasreached6.72millionsubscriptionsbytheendQ12012comparedto7.39millionsubscriptionsbytheendofQ12011.Thetotalnumberofsubscriptionsinruralareasreached1.85 million subscriptions by the end of Q12012 compared to 2.26 million subscriptionsbytheendofQ12011.

TheestimatednumberofInternetusersincreased�to30.90millionatendofQ12012,comparedto24.15millionattheendofQ12011,representinganannualincreaseof6.75millionusersandanannualgrowthrateof27.96%.
Internetpenetrationincreasedto37.88%atthe�endofQ12012,comparedto30.77%attheendofQ12011,representinganannualgrowthrateof7.11%.

Proportionofinternetbroadbandusersisabout�90.02% of total Internet users in Q1 2012comparedto87.18%oftotal internetusers inQ12011.
Proportion of internet narrowband users is�about9.98%oftotalInternetusersinQ12012comparedto12.82%oftotal internetusers inQ12011.
International Internet bandwidth increased�to 183,214 Gbps at the end of Q1 2012compared to 137,301 Gbps at the end of Q12011 representing an annual growth rate of33.44%.

ICT Price Basket
The cost of ICT services in Egypt is considered�internationallycompetitive.AccordingtotheWorldBankpricebasketmethodology,themonthlycostinEgyptinQ12012wasUSD2.83forafixedline*,USD2.65formobileservices**andUSD4.12forInternetservice***.
* The price for a residential fixed line is calculated as one-fifth of the installation charge, the monthly subscription charge and the cost of local calls (15 peak and 15 off-peak calls of three minutes each)
** Calculated based on the prepaid price for 25 calls per month spread over the same mobile network, other mobile networks and mobile to fixed line calls, during peak, off-peak and weekend times, in addition to 30 text messages.
*** Calculated based on the cheapest available tariff for connecting to the Internet for 20 hours a month (10 hours peak and 10 off-peak).

Post Offices
The total number of post offices increased to�3793attheendofQ12012,comparedto3771at the end of Q1 2011, reflecting an annualgrowthrateof0.58%.
The average number of people served by�individual post offices was 21,509 thousandpersons at the end of Q1 2012, comparedto20,811thousandpersonsat theendofQ12011, representinganannualgrowthrate of3.36%.
Number of Pensions Distributed through Postal Offices
* The calculation of the index based on the recommendations of the Organization & Economic Cooperation and Development ( OECD) and the World Bank, the Communication Services composite Price Index is calculated based on a basket of ICT telecommunication services taking into account the nature of telecommunications services in Egypt. The Index has four main subcomponents: fixed line telephone, mobile phone and internet services classified according to ISIC 4. Data was collected on tariffs and prices of these services for the period between 2002 to 2010 on quarterly bases that complies with the periodicity of computing the ICT GDP. The weights are calculated based on the share of each service from the total revenues for each company. The year 20062007/ was chosen to be the base year for the index.
Numberofbeneficiariesofpensionsdistributed�through postal offices has increased to about4.83millionbeneficiariesinQ12012comparedtoabout4.63millionbeneficiariesinQ12011withanannualgrowthrateof4.32%.
Ontheotherhand,thenumberofbeneficiaries�of pensions distributed through postal officesto the place of residence reached about 154thousandbeneficiariesattheendofQ12012.

The total operating revenues of ICT companies�reached EGP 12.18 billion in Q3 2011/2012comparedtoEGP10.10billioninQ32010/2011withanannualgrowthrate20.59%.

The total revenues of themain telecommunications�companies increased to EGP 10.23 billion in Q32011/2012 compared to EGP 9.24 billion in Q32010/2011.

ThecontributionoftheICTsectortoGDPatconstant�pricesincreasedto4.31%duringQ32011/2012comparedto4.16%inQ32010/2011.
ItisnoteworthythattotalGDPatconstantpricesof�theEgyptianEconomyreachedEGP209.42billionduringQ32011/2012.
ICT GDP at Constant Prices
ICT GDP at constant prices reached 9.02 billion�EGP during Q3 2011/2012 compared to 8.28billionEGPduringQ32010/2011.
Theprivatesectorcontributedwith thebiggest�shareofthesector’srealGDPreaching6.41BillionEGP during Q3 2011/2012 which constitutes71.06%ofthetotalICTGDP.

Real Growth Rate of ICT Sector GDP
ICTRealGDPrecorded9.05%annualgrowthrate�duringQ32011/2012and it recordedthethirdhighestgrowthrateamongthedifferenteconomicsectors.
It is worth mentioning that the significant�increasinginICTgrowthrateinQ32011/2012isduetothedeclininginICTGDPinQ32010/2011asaresultof25threvolutioneffects.

The contribution of the ICT sector to the total�implemented investments has reached about3.40billionEGPduringQ32011/2012comparedtoabout3.87billionEGPduringQ32010/2011.
ItisworthmentioningthatICTSectorrecorded�the seventh highest contribution to totalimplemented investment with a percentagethatreached%6.04duringQ32011/2012.

Thenumberof ICTcompanies increasedto4613�at the end of Q1 2012, of which 78%were ITcompanies 14.13% Value added services and7.87%communicationcompanies.ThenumberofICToperatingcompaniesinQ12012was15.04%higherthaninQ12011.

Proportion of total hospitals using computers�reached about 80% of the total numberof Egyptian Hospitals, where this ratio inGovernmental Hospitals reached about 94.7%of total number of Governmental hospitals,and in Educational Hospitals about 94.6% oftotal number of EducationalHospitalswhile itreached in Private hospitals about 71.2% oftotalnumberofPrivatehospitals.
Inthefieldofusingtheinternet…theproportion�oftotalhospitalsusinginternetreachedabout42%,where this ratio inEducationalHospitalsreached about 70.3%, and in GovernmentalHospitals about 57.4%, while it reached inPrivatehospitalsabout33.2%.
Ontheotherhand..proportionoftotalhospitals�usingmobile reached about 51%,where thisratioinGovernmentalHospitalsreachedabout23.9%, and in Educational Hospitals about29.7%, while it reached in Private hospitalsabout65.1%.

The Impact of ICT Usage in Egyptian Hospitals *
� Usageof ICThasaffectedpositively theEgyptianHospitals in 2011. Proportion of hospitals thatindicated that the ICT affected positively in “Increasing capacity ofmedical staff to constantlybeing aware of the latest update (diseases,cures,devices)”wereabout83%oftotalnumberof hospitals, while proportion of hospitals thatindicated that the ICT affected positively in“Increasing the efficiency of nurses, technicians,andworkersathospitals”wereabout65%.Ontheotherhand…62%oftotalhospitalsindicatedthatICTusageimprovethe“responseofthehospitalsto emergencies and the ambulance calls”. Theothereffectswerevariedbetween“increasingtheefficiency for illnessdiagnosis”withaproportion60%, “providing better opportunities for R&Dandmedical sector”with a proportion 60%and“providing better communications between allhospitaldepartments”withaproportion59%,inadditiontoothereffects.
