Ptak Changing Weekday Mass Schedule As was announced two weeks ago, the weekday Mass schedule for the three parishes would need to change so that it is manageable for one priest to cover all the Masses and the Liturgical schedule. I know some of you will say that we have priests that can help us, and while that is true most of the time, it is not true all of the time. For this reason, the schedule will change, beginning this Monday, March 11 th , 2019. In preparing for this change, I sat down with our Regional Bishop, Bishop Battersby, Fr. Robert Spezia, who is in charge of the Office of Clergy and Consecrated Life and Mr. Anthony Latarski, the regional representative from the Parish Life Office for the South Region. We have come up with the following Weekday Mass Schedule which I believe is fair and reasonable, with all the variables considered. Monday Morning, Confessions at 7:45 am and Mass at 8:00 am at St. John the Baptist, Monday Evening at 6:30 pm at St. Sebastian, which is the Mass for Faith Formation. Tuesday Morning, Mass at 8:00 am at St. Sebastian, along with the day long Eucharistic Adoration, which will conclude at 6:00 pm with the Perpetual Help Devotion and Benediction. Wednesday Morning, Mass at 8:00 am at St. Sebastian, with the students of St. Sebastian School. Thursday Morning, Confessions at 7:45 am and Mass at 8:00 am at St. John the Baptist, Thursday Evening, Mass at 6:30 pm at St. Sebastian. Friday Morning, Mass at 8:00 am at St. Albert the Great. Saturday Morning, Mass at 8:00 am at St. Albert the Great. On First Fridays, there will be an additional Mass at 11:15 am at St. Sebastian, which has long been a Mass for the Ford Motor Company employees. Please note that this does not consider the many Funeral Masses that happen each week between the three parishes. Please note: The Weekend Confession & Mass Schedule will remain the same for now. This schedule allows for each parish to have two morning Weekday Masses per week and an additional two weekday Evening Masses. It also reduces the number of weekday Masses from 14 to 8. If we are honest with ourselves, we know that at any given weekday Mass, there are at best 30 people in church buildings that hold 350 people or more! In days gone by, when we had many priests in each parish, two or even three morning Masses were possible as each priest celebrated daily. Presently, our three parishes have one priest assigned instead of the 7 priests (or sometimes even more) which used to serve these three parishes! I am asking that in the spirit of cooperation and understanding, you accept these changes considering the factors mention above. Bishop Battersby put it best when he said at this meeting, if you love your priest, you will understand and accept why this is necessary. Change is not easy, but many times, unavoidable. In the end, Daily Mass is available each day in our three parishes and there are many more opportunities at the other neighboring parishes as well. May Our Lady be with us in these changing times and calm our fears and anxieties as we move forward. Asking God’s blessing upon you for your cooperation and understanding!

They graphed the colors of candy hearts in a box,

colored a hundreds chart to find a hidden picture, and

used pattern blocks to make a heart.

The mission of St. Sebastian Catholic School is to provide a Christ centered environment where Catholic values, faith formation and academic excellence are instilled in the lives of students.

Afterwards, they made “cuddle bugs” out of a variety of materials, including pipe

cleaners, egg cartons, and glitter glue.

For the finale, the first graders watched what

happens when you dump pop rocks into soda bottles and put a balloon over it.

They shouted with glee as they watched the balloon

rise up!

The Christian Service Commission will once again sponsor the Lenten Faith in Action program. This year instead of the white tree, we will have a basket up front,

near the altar with the purple doves in it.

The purple doves represent the Holy Spirit calling us to action for the Lenten season. We hope you will take one and put your “faith in action.” This will cost you nothing, only make you feel richer in your faith. By following what your little dove says, you

can have a more fulfilling Lent by doing something for a fellow parishioner, a neighbor, a shut-in, a family member or even a total stranger. It could be a phone

call, a prayer, or a visit.

The basket will be in place beginning March 1st. Let’s once again show one another what a wonderful parish we are by inviting the Holy Spirit into our hearts by taking a

dove and putting our “Faith in Action.”

Thank you and may God bless you. Roseann Gomez / Christian Service Commission

Here’s the latest from your pantry: We were pleasantly surprised a few weeks back when we walked into the pantry and found 2 ½ shopping carts full of canned goods from the wonderful students here at St. Sebastian’s. Thank you so much to all involved, especially the children and their parents. Here is our current list for the pantry: · Pancake Mix · Syrup · Jelly: Grape and Strawberry · Instant Oatmeal · Tooth Paste and Brushes

Monday Faith Formation Program: March 11, 18 – Regular Program March 25- No Faith Formation. Upcoming Event: Thursday Lenten Book Club! Thursday evenings after the 6:30 evening Mass, in the Meeting Room connected to the church. We will be talking about the book “The Biggest Lie in the History of Christianity”, by Matthew Kelly. Copies will be available through the parish office and at the Book Club event. Facilitated by Jan Russell, Director of Faith Formation. Lenten Devotionals and calendars are available while supplies last. Please see the book rack for these and other resources. Confirmation Information: Confirmation Interviews will take place March 25 & 26 by appointment only. Please call the office if you do not have an appointment. First Eucharist Information: On Saturday March 9 our First Reconciliation Candidates attended a mini-retreat in preparation for First Reconciliation. Based on the parable of the Lost Sheep, children learned about God’s Mercy and Love. On March 16 they will gather to celebrate their First Reconciliation. Please keep them in your prayers. Upcoming Events: Parent Meeting on Tuesday, March 19 at 7:00 pm or Saturday, March 23 at 9:00 am. Please attend only one of the meetings. Both meetings will take place in the Meeting Room – Door #12.

Once again, the Christian Service

Commission will be putting together care packages for our Food Pantry

patrons.

You can bring your donations to church beginning the weekend of

March 9-10. There will be boxes at the entrances to put your donations

in. If you would like to participate in this Lenten Project, these are the

items that are needed:

· Toilet Paper · Paper Towel

· Kleenex (Large boxes ONLY) · Shampoo (No trial size)

Welcome to our Church

The celebration of Mass during Lent at St. Sebastian will begin with

ENTERING THE CHURCH IN SILENCE.

At the conclusion of the praying of the rosary, a period of silence will be observed as we prepare ourselves for the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy. The Priest and the ministers will

enter IN SILENCE. Please, be respectful and observant of this long-standing and very effective entrance into prayer during this Lenten season.
