MARC NEWSON ON THE STAND “Given that Annie is a photographer, I thought the tripod would be an appropriate reference. It’s also very practical, and, most importantly, it’s a very high quality object made by actual tripod manufacturers.” For the construction of the Annie Leibovitz book stand, TASCHEN and Marc Newson collaborated with the Italian company ALU, owned by Abramo Manfrotto, son of the famous Manfrotto tripods manufacturer. ALU’s expert understanding of the assembly of different material components, as well as their familiarity with TASCHEN standards after their work on Norman Mailer’s MoonFire, made them an ideal partner for this project. All elements were manufactured in Italy. ASSEMBLY The book package includes a pair of white gloves to be used while assembling the stand. Please consult the assembly instructions pictured below. CARE AND CLEANING The different elements of the table, including acrylic glass, aluminum, and steel, should be cleaned with additive-free products only. The acrylic platform is very delicate and should always be handled with the white gloves. Fabric elements and the dust jacket of the book are more vulnerable to damage and stains, so please treat them with caution. Please keep in mind also that while the paper of this book features few optical whiteners, it is still UV- sensitive. If you leave the book open to the same page in an area exposed to sunlight, the pages may eventually yellow. STORAGE We do not recommend storing the book on the stand for extended periods. The best way to preserve the book’s original quality is to store it in a flat and closed position. We recommend keeping the original pack- aging for shipping or storage purposes.
