Thank you to all families who were able to donate items towards the Bali clothing appeal. The items were delivered to the village of Tianyar, near Tulamben and were gratefully accepted.
Superhero Day was lots of fun when children were given the opportunity to dress as their favourite Superhero! There were some great costumes and lots of laughs throughout the day.
Earth Day at Play’s Kool was celebrated differently by each age group. The Babies Room created some wonderful handprint Earths. Our Toddlers made their interpretation of the Earth by using balloons with green and blue paint. The children in the Kindies Room used their creativity by developing their own Earth. Firstly they made green and blue playdough, and then joining the colours together and rolling them into round ball shapes. The Educators discussed with the children the importance of protecting the planet and what we can all do to look after our Earth.
Earth Day Network’s mission is to broaden and diversify the environmental movement worldwide and to mobilise it as the most effective vehicle to build a healthy, sustainable environment, address climate change and protect the Earth for future generations. See more at: http://www.earthday.org This Friday 6th May we will be holding our Mother’s Day Morning Tea from 10:00am until 11:00am. You are more than welcome to attend.
I would also like to take this opportunity to inform parents that Play’s Kool Mandurah has begun the Assessment and Rating process as part of the National Quality Framework. This is an exciting time for all Educators and management as we work towards highlighting the wonderful service we provide here at Play’s Kool Mandurah.
Many thanks – Rebecca
Standard 6.1: Respectful and supportive relationships with families are developed and maintained. (Elements 6.1.1, 6.1.2, 6.1.3) Standard 6.2: Families are supported in their parenting role and their values and beliefs about childrearing are respected. (Elements 6.2.1, 6.2.2) Standard 6.3: The service collaborates with other organisations and service providers to enhance children’s learning and wellbeing. (Elements 6.3.1, 6.3.2, 6.3.3, 6.3.4)
By developing their professional knowledge and skills, and working in partnerships with children, families and communities and other services and agencies, Educators continuously strive to find equitable and effective ways to ensure that all children have opportunities to experience a sense of personal worth and achieve learning outcomes.
Children might be brought to care with symptoms or signs of illness, or while in care suddenly develop an illness that has not been diagnosed by a doctor, and that might be potentially infectious or potentially life-threatening for the child. Symptoms may not clearly fit those listed in exclusion diseases making it difficult for the service to decide whether to accept or exclude the child from the service. If we suspect a child may have an infectious disease, we will exclude the child until we receive a medical certificate stating the child is not contagious and is okay to attend the service.
As with every review, a copy will be displayed in the foyer and we would appreciate any comments you may have for our consideration as part of our policy improvement initiative. We continually strive to improve our service to our families.

SUNSMART Play’s Kool is a SunSmart Centre and we require all children to bring their hats with them on a daily basis and parents are to ensure children are dressed in SunSmart clothing. We kindly ask all families to get involved with encouraging their children to apply their own sunscreen when they arrive each day at our SunSmart (sunscreen) station. There are wipes and sanitiser to help wash your hands afterwards. It is the parent’s responsibility to ensure children have sunscreen applied prior or upon arrival so there is adequate time for the sunscreen to take effect. IMMUNISATIONS Please remember to let us know of any updates to your children’s immunisation register by allowing us to take a copy.
SLEEPING AT THE CENTRE If all families could please remember to bring in the bedding required for their children on each day of attendance. This should consist of one set of cot sheets as well as a thin blanket stored inside a pillow case which we will have organised for you to take home again at the end of each day. If you do not provide any bedding we will assume your child does not require a sleep on that day. MEDICATIONS Please ensure all medication is handed directly to our staff members and not left in children’s bags. Medication Forms must be completed and signed prior to our staff being able to administer any medications. PARENT SURVEYS Parent Survey forms are available on our Parent’s Notice Board and we always welcome any comments, suggestions or concerns you may have. Your valuable feedback assists us in continually assessing how we deliver care to your family. TOYS Please ensure children leave their toys at home to prevent their loved toys getting broken or lost. Play’s Kool do not take any responsibility for lost or broken toys brought in from home. FAMILY INPUT Thank you for all of the family input we receive. Sharing your special events, activities, culture and any of your child’s particular interests with us is extremely valuable towards developing our learning journeys.

We would like to welcome Elizabeth to the Babies Room.
The Babies Room have been exploring the world of vegetables. We have
created a fresh food market within our room to extend on our vegetable
focus and have allowed the children to expand their imaginations by
engaging hands on play with toy fruit, cash registers and telephones. The
children are then encouraged to bring their fruit and vegetable purchases
to the home corner to be cooked up into a delicious healthy meal to
promote healthy eating.
To extend on these activities we have also been working very hard on our vegetable
patch art wall, adding foot print corn cobs and brush painted strawberries with hand
print green leaves. Our art experiences are also very sensory for the children as they
like to feel and taste things as a way of exploring their environment.
Speech development is always a focus in the Babies Room with our younger friends.
This includes verbal exercises to exercise our mouth and tongue muscles with sounds
like goo, gaa, mumumum and nananan. The older children in our group find these
sounds very entertaining and love to join in!
For the older, more active children we have
been promoting learning and development
through physical play such as obstacle courses,
dance and action songs along with ball games
just a to name a few.
What a fun month it has been and we have
enjoyed many special occasions including Anzac
Day, Earth Day and Superhero Day. Thank you to all of our parents for making
the effort to make these days special. Keep a look out for upcoming events this
month.

Welcome Nia, Charli and their families to the Centre. We look forward to watching you grow and learn here with us.
Throughout the month of April we have explored animals in the jungle
as an extension from family input that we received. Children enjoyed
using and developing their creative art skills to learn about the animals,
broadening their understanding of the world that we live in.
We have also been focusing on learning about the weather due to the
children’s increasing interest in the change in weather we’ve been
having. We have engaged in a variety of experiences including arts and
craft, verbal interactions, observations and play based learning
experiences. We will be continuing with this throughout the month of
Did You Know?
Apples give you more energy than
coffee. Due to its high
carbohydrate, vitamin and
mineral content apples have
enough nutrition to keep you
energised all day.
May as children’s interest is increasing and the weather will be continually changing
coming into winter.
As we have a number of children within our room that are awaiting the arrival of
siblings (mothers who are pregnant) we have set up a dolls activity corner within the
room to give the children a smoother settling process when the new little member
to their family arrives. Children are LOVING this!!
We were able to dress up as our favourite Superheroes on Superhero Day and used
playdough to create our very own Superheroes! The children had so much fun!

We would like to welcome Emily and Bryce to the Kindies Room. We also have Sofia-Ivy and Gabriella joining us from the
Toddlers Room. We hope you all have lots of fun with us.
We would like to wish Chandell all the best whilst she is on maternity leave, we know she will be missed. In the meantime,
Laurie, Hayley and Maddie will be in the Kindies Room and looking forward to having lots of fun with you.
Over the past month the Kindies Room focus has been ‘in the garden.’ The children have been learning about all sorts of
different fruits and vegetables and how they grow. We have been very creative with participating in many art and craft
activities such as making carrots, corn, broccoli, apples, bananas, grapes and lots more. The children have also planted
carrots and have been watering them using our left over water from lunch time. Let’s hope they grow nice and big!
Moving forward we are shifting our focus to ‘space and the universe’ and are all very excited to explore and learn all about
our different planets.

Thank you for your fruit donations each day. We have been receiving and
tasting more citrus fruits recently which contain lots of vitamin C and helps
to combat the common cold.
Many of the children know the routines in the dining area. It is nice to see
the children washing their hands as soon as they get to the dining area.
When they have finished their meals, the children instinctively bring their
left over plate to the food scrap bowl and clean it by themselves. We even
some children who enjoy helping the other children clean up too which
encourages self-confidence.
