A ceasefire was being negotiated but failed and fighting resumed on Sunday. Reuters reported four killed in the renewed clashes on Sunday with the militias firing heavy anti-aircraft cannon, Grad missiles and even rockets. Some families were trapped in Qasr Ben Ghasir area, while several thousand others were able to flee as the fighting spread into a residential neighborhood. Jilani al-Dahesh an airport security official said on Sunday: ""The airport was attacked this morning with mortar rounds, rockets and tank fire. It was the most intense bombardment so far."" The Zintan militias are loosely allied with General Hifter who some time ago launched Operation Dignity that has attacked Islamist militia bases in the eastern city of Benghazi. However the Zintan militia attacked and burned the parliament buildings and kidnapped some Islamist legislators and officials as part of Operation Dignity. The airport is closed. There is quite extensive damage that will take considerable time to repair. The two state-owned airlines have had to cut operations by 70 per cent since the conflict. Libyan Airlines and the other operator Afriqiyah Airways have a few planes in Misrata and two other cities and are operating to try to fly out passengers stranded at other airports according to Ali Elayan who is general manager of Libyan African Aviation Holding Co. When asked about his plans and aircraft replacements Elayan said: "We are at war now, and God knows what will happen next. The planes have been damaged by shrapnel in the fighting." However, he also said that some planes could be repaired in Libya, but others would be sent to Tunisia, France, and Germany as there are maintenance agreements with companies there. Among the planes completely destroyed were an Airbus A330 airliner, and a Bombardier Inc. CRJ. According to the Libyan civil aviation authority 21 aircraft valued at about $2 billion were damaged during the fighting that lasted a week. The security situation in Libya is so risky that the Philippines Department of Foreign Affairs ordered the almost 13,000 Philippine nationals in the country to evacuate immediately because of the "extremely unstable political and security situation."
