    Descaling

Warning: The descaling operations musbe carried out when the machinecomponents are cold.

Descaling is necessary to remove limescalefrom all surfaces and holes, thus ensuring aperfect operation of valves, heating controlsand other important parts.

Note: due to the complexity of the coffeemachine hydraulic circuit, the followingdescaling cycles (automatic and standard)do not allow the descaling of all tubes. In fact, easily accessible componentssuch as the central unit (22) and itsplastic connection are excluded.

The machine must be descaled every 3-4 months, according to the water hardness degree. Amore frequent descaling is recommended wher-ever the water hardness degree is very high. This machine is supplied with a particularwarning light

    "DESCALING ""READY FOR USE "

Descaling must be carried out at the latest whenthis message is displayed. In spite of the mes-sage, the machine does not stop working. Toswitch off the display, press the steam key forapprox. 5 seconds until the message disap-pears.Furthermore, said display warning may be

adjusted according to the water hardness de-gree. The machine has been adjusted at thefactory to 25 _H value, which causes thedisplay to switch on showing the messageDESCALING after approx 150 l.The water hardness value may be changed, ifnecessary, following the instructions shown onpage 38.

    The following adjustments are possible:Hardness 4: high water hardness, over 29H (14 dH), approx. 80 l water passage.Hardness 3: medium water hardness, approx.20-29 H (7-14 dH), approx. 150 l waterpassageHardness 2: soft water, approx. 12-20 H(4-7 dH), approx. 300 l water passageHardness 1: less than 10 H (3 dH), approx.500 l water passage

In case of hard water, a filter should be usedboth to improve the coffee quality and to protectthe machine, thus reducing the descaling fre-quency.

Note: for this purpose, use a descaling prod-uct suitable for coffee machines. Never usevinegar to clean the machine; it mightdamage it.

There are two ways to carry out the descalingof the machine:

    Automatic descaling

Switch the machine onto the programmingmode (see page 38).Move the asterisk at the end of the line to themenu item DESCALING. To activate this menuitem press ENT.The display shows:

    "DESCALING "

    Standard descaling

Switch off the machine. Pour a descaling prod-uct into the water tank (according to the instruc-tions on the package). Place a large containerunder the steam/hot water dispensing tube (7)and open the steam/hot water knob (9) slowly, turning it counterclockwise. Turn on the machineby pressing the main switch and let the descalingproduct flow out of the dispensing tube forapprox. 1 min.Turn off the machine with the main switch andlet the solution take effect for approx. 5 minutes.Repeat this procedure two or three times, toallow all the descaling product in the water tankto flow out of the dispensing tube.As soon as decalcification has been carriedout, rinse the water tank (11) thoroughly and fillit with water.Switch on the machine again and let water(approx. 2 l) flow out of the steam/hot waterdispensing tube in order to rinse away residue. The coffee machine is now ready for operation.

ImportantA periodic descaling avoids expensive repairs. The machine warranty does not cover damagesoccurring as a result of the non-observance ofdescaling procedures, improper use and anyother instructions contained herein. Maintainthe manufacturers adjustment if the water hard-ness degree is not known.

    Storage of the machine

Switch off and unplug the machine if it will notbe used for long periods of time.
