MANCHESTERS NEW LIVE VENUE & INDIE CLUBAGENTS GUIDE & BOOKING INFO
20 years since the birth of Madchester, the building that started itand ultimately destroyed it...
FAC251 - Head Office of Factory Communications Ltd...Built by Tony Wilson. Designed by Ben Kelly. Paid for by NewOrder
Broken by The Happy Mondays...
A NEW PROJECT FROM PETER HOOK, BEN KELLY & FUNKTION ONE.
FACTORY COMMUNICATIONS LTD 1978 - 1992 January 24th 1978 two men talked in a room about how they would transform their neighbourhood into a City of imagination and about how they would be written into history. A year later 1979, and the first Factory release, A Factory Sample, appeared featuring Joy Division, The Durutti Column, John Dowie and Cabaret Voltaire. Further releases and certain experiences and events would follow. The two men failed, but they succeeded...
10yrs later 1989 FACTORY, its club the HAÇIENDA, its bar DRY201 and its bands, led by NewOrder & The Happy Mondaysare at the epicentre of MADCHESTER focusing Manchester as the music capital of the World..
So much of what FACTORY acheived has been destroyed yet its influence on this grey rainy City is indelible. In 2010 music again needs a platform, a stage to perform a space, a community...
For some time Manchester has been lacking a high delivery mid size venue. Our aim is to plug that void – a New Live Venue & Indie club – to nurture new breed talent.
Technologically the most perfect sound & tech spec of any venue of its size.Built by promoters, bands and DJs for promoters bands & DJs.
A NEW PROJECT FROM PETER HOOK, BEN KELLY & FUNKTION ONE
Co-Owned by NewOrders PETER HOOK & TOKYO INDUSTRIES (the operators of the DIGITAL& TOKYO brands). Redesigned by BEN KELLY, the original designer of the Factory HQ, HAÇIENDA,DRY201 and Malcolm McLaren & Vivienne Westwoods flagship Sex Pistol store SEX in the Punk 70s. Sound designed & commissioned personally by Tony Andrews at FUNKTION ONE.

GROUND FLOORIn the Original Factory HQ scheme this area was designed as the bulk vinyl & CD warehouse and distribution centre. Back then bands toured to SELL RECORDS... Now they do downloads to SELL TOURS...
In the new 2010 scheme BEN KELLY has re-visioned this space as the main LIVE STAGE area - a 400 capacity room featuring an oversized live stage with clear sight lines - dressing room access direct to stage, a Reception and merchandise area, bar, Dj/Vj booth and Sound desk orbit the main dancefloor area.

FIRST FLOORDesigned as the main Factory office space & Accounts team, with a balcony overlooking the treble high reception area. Redesigned for 2010 by Ben Kelly as secondary dancefloor space with a centralised bar creating a space to the rear of the bar for seating or VIP area. Cantilevered DJ raised above the treble high main reception area.
THE BOARDROOMA third story skeletal nest added to the roof of the original two story building, with it zinc entry duct leading to that infamous £20k boardroom table that the Happy Mondays sat on & bust at Factorys office opening party. The orginal boardroom is untouched - just a bar & DJ box have been added - the scale of the space is exactly as it once was as The Boardroom for Factory Communications Ltd. The creation & musical direction of Factory, Madchester and its fall was all (mis)directed from this room. Those same Rockstars now DJ in this room... hosted at weekends by Peter Hook, Mani, Clint Boon & Friends
