MANATEESBY NELL AND ALLISON
About Manatees
• Manatees are big animals that are also called sea cows
• Its size is 8 to 13 ft. long
• Their weight is 440 to 1300
• Their life span in the wild is 40 to 60 years which could expand if me adopt some.
How Manatees Survive
• They eat weeds, sea grass and algae.
• Their predators are alligators, sharks and boat propellers
• The babies drink the milk from the moms
What Will Happen?
• If manatees die the water plants will over populate
• In rivers, canals, and streams
Where They Live
• They are found in rocky and hilly, shallow water
• Slow moving rivers
• And salt water bays
• Sense they live in shallow water it is obvious why they are getting hit with boat propellers
The Role
• The role the manatee plays in the ecosystem is prey and they are consumers
• The boat propellers scrap them up and can possibly kill them
Why they are endangered
• They are on the list because their predator’s are over populating
• They are being killed for food
• And being run over by boats
How We Can Help
• We can adopt them
• Zoos are catching them for their own good
• They are making laws that you must be five hundred feet away
Opinion We think that we
should enforce more laws to help the
ManateesAnd that we should be
more careful with boats and i think that if more
people realize what manatees are going through they would realize how bad they
are actually being hurt.
Thank You
