    Who are managers?

    Manager is the person who activelyparticipates in the management process

    by planning, organizing, leading, orcontrolling organizations resources.

    Manager is someone who works withand through other people by

    coordinating their work activities inorder to accomplish organizational goals

    Who are managers?

    First-line Manager is the manager at lowestlevel of the organization who manages thework of non-managerial employees who are

    directly involved with the production orcreation of organization's products. Middle manager is the manager between the

    first line level and top level of the organizationwho manage the work of first line managers.

    Top manager is the manager who isresponsible for making organization-widedecisions and establishing the goals and plansthat affect the entire organization.

    Management is the process of achieving organizational goals throughplanning, organizing, leading andcontrolling the human, physical,financial and informational resources ofthe organization in an effective andefficient manner

    Management definition

    Process represents series of actions oroperations performed in order toachieve certain goal.

    Effectiveness is defined as ability toaccomplish the organizational goal: Todo the right thing.

    Efficiency is ability to minimize wasteof the organizations availableresources: To do the thing in the rightway.

    The process of management

    - What managers do? Management is composed of four basic and

    interrelated functions that help managersachieve organizational goals.

    Planning is the process of determining theorganizations goals and developingprocedures to attain them.

    Organizing is the process of creating a

    framework for developing and assigning tasks,obtaining and allocating resources, andcoordinating work activities to achieve goals.

    of managerial behavior Interpersonal roles are managerial roles

    that involve people and other duties

    that are ceremonial and symbolic innature. Informational roles are managerial roles

    Decisional roles are managerial rolesthat involve receiving, collecting, anddisseminating information.

    Organization Organization is a group of people who work

    together in deliberately structured setting toaccomplish group goals.

    We can classify organizations according to itsattitude towards profit (e.g. for-profitorganization, not-for-profit organization),nature of the business (e.g. manufacturing orservices) and according to their ownership(e.g. private commercial businesses or publicor state organizations).

    For-profit organization will pay close attentionto the needs and wants of their customerswhile public sector organization will focus onthe needs and wants of their constituents.

    Organization Customers are individuals and organizations

    who purchase goods and services produced byan organization.

    Constituents are individuals and organizationsthat are served by organization in the publicsector.

    Managers and organizations are continuouslyevaluated by their performance.

    Performance is degree to which individuals ororganizations achieve the organizational goals

    with effectiveness and efficiency. There areperformance indicators such as net profit,market share, scores, victories etc.
