October 15, 2013 Welcome to the 2013 Global Forecasting and Marketing Conference. This unique event offers crucial information and networking opportunities you won’t find anywhere else. From the energetic keynotes to the industry-specific economic forecasts, I am confident you’ll see that this continues to be the high-quality event that you’ve come to expect. We are excited to welcome Adam Feinberg, Vice President of U.S. International Sales for United Parcel Service (UPS), who will speak on how to maximize value in customer relationships. Additionally, Ravi Venkatesan, former Chairman of Cummins India and Microsoft India, will discuss the opportunities in India’s growing market. There is always a great deal of excitement around the economic forecasts offered by Eli Lustgarten, Adrian Cooper, Steven R. Kline, Jr., and Alan Beaulieu. I would like to extend a sincere welcome and thank you to all of our speakers who have joined us here to share their expertise. The excellent content delivered at this conference wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of our committee members. Chris Stine of Morris Group and Jim McEachen of Cleaning Technologies Group both had an integral role in planning this year’s event. Also involved were the other members of the AMT Economic & Statistics Committee and the Global Marketing & Sales Committee. They are all outstanding examples of the many engaged and active AMT members who show dedication and commitment by leading and serving on member committees. Thanks for joining us in the Queen City! I wish you much prosperity and hope to see all of you at many future editions of the Global Forecasting & Marketing Conference. Cheers,
Douglas K. Woods President

How to access the presentations on your laptop via your iCue USB device
Please make sure that your computer is connected to the Internet (available in guest rooms & lobby).
1. Insert the iCue device into your computer’s USB port. 2. Wait a few moments while the iCue device connects (you may see a pop-up window loading the
website). 3. A website will pop up automatically in your default Internet browser. 4. Please fill out all of the requested fields under the “Registration Information” section, then click the
“Submit” button. 5. A list of all of the most up-to-date GFMC presentations will appear. You can download each by clicking
the “Download” button to the right of the file name. 6. A PDF document will populate in a new window once the download has completed.
If you wish to use a mobile device to view and annotate the presentations, please go to www.amtonline.org/GFMC2013 for instructions.
During the conference, you can take notes directly on the PDF files using Adobe Reader. Please remember to SAVE your file after you take notes or you will lose them.
How to add notes/comments to a PDF
In order to access the markup tools, click the “Comment” option at the top right of your menu bar. Both “Sticky Note” and “Highlight Text” are useful tools to annotate the presentations.
Sticky Note: To select the sticky note option, click the icon that looks like a yellow comment bubble, and use your cursor to mark where you want to insert the note – this will put a small icon wherever you click, and a larger area will open in which you can type your notes. You can move the sticky note wherever you would like it to be, you can resize it as needed, and you can minimize the larger note area so it does not block the content on that page. Once you have minimized it, if you mouse over the small icon, you will see a pop up screen with your text.
Highlight Text: To select the highlight option, click the icon that looks like a text box and pencil, and then use
your cursor to mouse over the text you wish to highlight.
Note: If you would like to print out any of the pages of your binder with your notes, be sure to select the “Document and Markups” option on your print setup screen so your comments will be printed along with the slides.
MOBILE DEVICE INSTRUCTIONS This year, attendees can download presentations to their laptops by plugging in a USB device received at registration (you will need Internet connectivity to access them). If you intend to use a tablet without a USB port, please do the following PRIOR to the start of the conference: 1) Download the Adobe app on your mobile device.
a. For iPad or iPhone: Please install the free Adobe Reader App from iTunes. https://itunes.apple.com/app/adobe-reader/id469337564?mt=8 b. For Android OS: Please install the free Adobe Reader App from Google Play. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.adobe.reader
2) Download presentations you wish to annotate during the conference by going to www.AMTonline.org/GFMC2013. Instructions for utilizing the Adobe apps will also be available through this link.
After the conference, we will provide the final presentations through the USB device, so even if you are using a tablet at the conference, make sure you pick up the USB at registration. If you have any questions or need assistance with this process, please don’t hesitate to find any AMT staff member at the conference.
2013 Global Forecasting & Marketing Conference Breakout Session Descriptions
2:00 – 2:50 pm
Powertrain Trends – CO2 Driving the Change — Fuel Economy has been the driver for powertrain regulation for decades. In the coming years, CO2 emissions regulation will drive the change. This seemingly minor change in policy may have enormous impact on powertrain technology strategy for OEMS and suppliers.
Energy Trends: Why Jobs, Capital Investment & Trade are Heating Up — Once reigning as the King of Coal, the United States is now referred to as the “Saudi Arabia of natural gas.” The natural gas industry supports nearly 3 million jobs in the United States, and unconventional natural gas activity is projected to grow from 1 million of these jobs in 2010 to over 2.4 million in 2035. During the recession, the shale revolution was one of the largest job generators in the U.S., supporting nine of the top 11 fastest growing jobs in America. The electricity industry has played a pivotal role in absorbing excess supply generated by shale extraction. However, new sources of demand are required for these growth levels to be sustainable. This session examines global energy industry trends, changing interrelationships between energy sectors, the impact on capital investment and manufacturing, and discusses what is required for long-term sustainable growth in the U.S. and abroad.
Capital Spending for the Job Shop Industry — Ian Stringer will project total spending by job shops based on the results of NTMA's 2013 Capital Spending Survey. He will share the primary factors in purchasing equipment. The largest portion of the job shops' work tends to revolve around small- and mid-volume production. Their key customer industries are Aircraft/Aerospace; Automotive/Transportation/Engines; Military/Defense; Telecommunications/Satellite Equipment; and Medical/Precision Instruments.
Brazil: The Heartbeat of the South American Market — It is true that the BRICS have slowed down their growth in 2013. Nevertheless, among them, Brazil has been surprisingly resilient and offers a strong opportunity for manufacturing technology suppliers. The presentation will provide a status report about the Brazilian market while discussing the outlook for its industrial growth.
Brazil seen from the inside, presents many more opportunities then when looked upon from the outside. This presentation is one that comes from within and will also cover the challenges that still exist, but at the same time, indicating the roadmap to overcome the barriers and for participating in the many business opportunities that are only accessible by the companies that have a direct and significant presence in the country.
This presentation will also discuss the newly established "AMT Sao Paulo Technology Center" in Sorocaba, SP, and the many resources that the Center offers to AMT members.

AMT ANTITRUST STATEMENT
Trade associations have long been recognized as serving a valuable, pro-competitive
and entirely lawful role in promoting the economic development and consumer welfare
of our country. However, serious antitrust problems can arise if a trade association’s
activities are not properly conducted. Accordingly, AMT assigns the highest priority to
full compliance with both the letter and the spirit of the antitrust laws. It is thus vital that
all meetings and activities of the Association be conducted in a manner consistent with
that policy.
Agreements among competitors that unreasonably limit competition are unlawful under
the antitrust laws, and violators are subject to criminal fines and incarceration, civil fines
and private treble damage actions -- as well as substantial administrative disruption,
defense costs and adverse publicity. Examples of such illegal agreements by
competitors are agreements to fix or stabilize prices, agreements to allocate territories
or customers, and agreements to limit output or even investments in innovation and
regulatory compliance. Accordingly, it is inherently risky and potentially illegal for
competitors to discuss any prices, pricing policies, specific terms and conditions of sale,
profit margins, problems experienced with individual customers or suppliers, individual
company costs, production or R&D plans, specific market shares of any competitor, or
any other elements or factors that may affect competition.
It is important to bear in mind that those in attendance at Association meetings, or
participating in other Association activities, include your competitors. Any discussion of
sensitive antitrust subjects with one’s competitors should be avoided at all times before,
during, and after any Association meeting or activity. If at any time during the course of
any meeting or activity, the Association staff believes that a sensitive topic under the
antitrust laws is being discussed, or is about to be discussed, they will so advise those
present and halt further discussion. Attendees at any AMT meeting or other activity
should likewise not hesitate to voice any concerns they may have in this regard. All
AMT members and staff executives share in this important responsibility.
