Malmö business in brief

Northern Harbour The Northern Harbour is a part of Copenhagen Malmö Port, CMP, offering multimodal transport solutions and excellent infrastructure by sea, rail, road and air. To develop the competitiveness of the Öresund Region the City of Malmö and CMP are currently investing USD 125 million in modern infrastruc-ture. A brand-new, ultra-modern goods and ferry terminal is under construc-tion that will enable optimization of trimodal transport flows.

The Northern Harbour in Malmö will be a natural choice for centralized logis- tic operations in Scandinavia, the Baltic countries and northern Germany. From reclaimed land we can offer land for harbour based logistic hubs for nor- thern Europe. A base in or around Malmö means rapid access to large and expanding markets, 25 million consumers in Scandinavia and about 125 million in northern Europe.

To attract companies with operations that make big demands on distribution and logistics we will build a state-of-the-art logistics centre. The new develop-ment in the Northern Harbour covers 750,000 sqm for manufacturing and transport industries providing value adding and working opportunities.

Copenhagen Airport works as the hub for Scandinavian Airlines and one of the hubs in the Star Alliance.

Development areas

Western Harbour One of the most important areas of expansion today is the Western Harbour with mixed urban structures including housing accommodation, workplaces and services. The residential tower Turning Torso is with its 54 floors a land-mark which symbolizes the post-industrial Malmö.

Urban density in combination with modern architecture and a high level of sustainability is part of the area Dockan. The area is transforming into a media cluster where the Media Evolution City will be located in the docklands. It is hosting growth companies within moving images as well as SVT – the Swedish public service TV.

HyllieHyllie, very close to the Öresund Bridge, in southwest Malmö, 10 minutes from Copenhagen Airport, is planned for business, commercial premises, residen-ces and more. One of the main features, Malmö Arena, designed to host both sports and other events holds up to 15,000 spectators. There are also plans for building a new trade exhibition centre in this district.

Emporia is a large 90,000 sqm shopping centre under construction in a four- storey building containing a mix of Scandinavian and international stores as well as around 30 restaurants and cafés. The shopping centre will also include two large food stores and will be opened in 2012.

Point Hyllie combines housing and commercial property, and will be a land- mark for the area.

S Malmö Airport, about 20 kilometres east of Malmö has a catchment area that covers most of southern Sweden, where 1.4 million people (40 percent) of the country’s population lives. Malmö Airport has domestic as well as internatio-nal routes.

The Öresund Bridge is a combined twin-track railroad and highway across Öresund. The Bridge connects Malmö in Sweden and Copenhagen in Denmark.

Copenhagen Malmö Port, CMP is a joint company for the two harbours in Copenhagen and Malmö. The company is the major port operator in the Öresund Region and one of the biggest port and terminal operators in the whole Nordic Region. It meets demands for the transport of consumer goods, new cars, aviation fuel, building materials, passengers, etc.

The Citytunnel, opening in December 2010 will link the railway line from the city of Malmö to the lines to Trelleborg, Ystad south of Malmö, and Copenha-gen Airport and Copenhagen. Every day an estimated 350 trains will pass through the Citytunnel. Malmö Central Station is being redeveloped and Malmö will also gain two new stations – Triangeln and Hyllie.

The Citytunnel will help to improve commuting options as the commuting times for a number of routes will be reduced and accessibility in the region further increased.
