Malaysian Driving licence Malaysia has been acknowledged to have one of the most well devised and strict process to acquire driving licence in the world. This can clearly be seen as how the Malaysian driving licence is accepted for use in over 50 countries around the world. The driving licence acquiring process are managed by the Road and Transport Department, and conducted by the collaborating driving schools around Malaysia. To acquire a Malaysian driving licences, the applicant have to first register and send their application to The Road and Transport Department of their district. The registration can be done directly through the department or through the driving schools. The minimum age to apply for the driving licence is 16 and 17 years old for motorcycle and car licence respectively. After completing the registration process, the applicant will go through a hour driving curriculum lecture and 3 hours practical workshop. This lecture and workshop sessions are implemented to provide the applicants basic theoretical knowledge about the rules, regulations, and driving safety, and practical knowledge on understanding basic vehicle anatomy and how to handle basic emergency cases such as a tyre puncture. Both of the lecture and workshop are conducted by the driving institute of the applicant choice.

Malaysian Driving licence

Malaysia has been acknowledged to have one of the most well devised and strict

process to acquire driving licence in the world. This can clearly be seen as how the Malaysian

driving licence is accepted for use in over 50 countries around the world. The driving licence

acquiring process are managed by the Road and Transport Department, and conducted by the

collaborating driving schools around Malaysia.

To acquire a Malaysian driving licences, the applicant have to first register and send

their application to The Road and Transport Department of their district. The registration can

be done directly through the department or through the driving schools. The minimum age to

apply for the driving licence is 16 and 17 years old for motorcycle and car licence

respectively.

After completing the registration process, the applicant will go through a hour driving

curriculum lecture and 3 hours practical workshop. This lecture and workshop sessions are

implemented to provide the applicants basic theoretical knowledge about the rules,

After attending the lecture and workshop at the driving institute, the applicant have to

take part I examination. The part I examination consist of colour blind, identification and

distinguishing capability, and knowledge on the Malaysian rules and regulation on driving.

These test are done using computerised system excluding some special cases such as cases

that deal with senior citizen and people who have problem with using computers.

After completing the part I examination, successful applicants will receive their

learners’ driver’s licence. The learners’ “L” driver’s licence allows the applicant to drive with

the supervision of a qualified trainer without any other passengers. With the learners’ licence,

the applicant will go through a series of practical driving training session. The Road and

Transport Department require the applicant to do a minimum of eight (8) training sessions

that are done with the qualified trainer. These training sessions will be commenced within a

minimum of one (1) month time span.

After completing the minimum 8 hours of training over a month time span, the

applicant will be able to take the Qualifying Test at the Institute or QTI test. The test as the

name is a qualifying test that the applicants have to be able to pass in order to take the part II

and part III driving examination. As with the part II and III examination, the QTI test also

consists of two part driving test. In the first part, the applicants will be tested within the

driving circuit at the driving institute. For the second part, the applicant will be tested on the

road within specific routes, approved by the Road and Transport Department.

Applicants who are successful in the QTI test are qualified to take the part II and part

III driving test. As with the QTI test, applicants are tested in the driving institute for the part

II, and on the road test for part III. Within the part II, the applicants are tested on three

different situations, which is; driving over a hilled road, parallel parking, and three point turn

also known as the “K-turn”. While in the part III the driver are tested for ability to drive in

real road situation with the right driving implementation.

After completing the part II and part III examination, successful applicants will

receive their Probationary “P” driving licence that are to be used within the two (2) years

probation period. After the probation period, the applicant will finally be able to convert the

probationary licence to a competent drivers licence at The Road and Transport Department.
