MALAYSIA HOSTED THE HOTTEST & COOLEST DIVE SHOW IN ASIA (POST EVENT) MALAYSIA INTERNATIONAL DIVE EXPO (MIDE) 2017 Putra World Trade Centre • Kuala Lumpur 12 - 14 May 2017 Business-To-Business Session The expo featured many activities and among others was the Business -To- Business Session. An interactive business session was organized for the first time, by Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board (MTPB) and hosted International Buyers. The sessions was seen Buyers and Sellers sealing the deal on dive packages with Malaysian exhibitors on the first day of the event. The 12th Malaysia International Dive Expo (MIDE) 2017, described as the “Hottest” and “Coolest” Dive Show in Asia, welcomed ‘DIVERS OF THE WORLD’ to the expo over the 3 days event. The expo was officiated by YB Datuk Mas Ermieyati Binti Samsudin, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia. MIDE2017 concluded with attendance of 12,166 visitors from 45 countries across the world. MIDE 2017 successfully brought together a total of 928 exhibitors from all over the world, featuring more than 1000 brands from 133 participating companies who sealed-the-deal at the expo. MIDE 2017 once again will set the stage and provide a platform for ardent dive enthusiasts and companies to create awareness for Malaysia as a dive destination. With a bigger hall space catered for MIDE2017, the expo welcomed business entrepreneurs, tourism boards, dive agencies, brand manufacturers and distributors who utilised the platform that has been created and designed to meet the lucrative business for every organisation. Ocean Rescue Forum MIDE is not just about diving but also a strong advocate on raising awareness of the beautiful marine life and its underwater environment. The most anticipated Ocean Rescue forum was organized and had ongoing online survey at MIDE facebook that was initiated prior the forum. Fans participated in the survey. Panel of speakers and moderator delivered and exchanged fruitful, interesting and important aspect on how public can protect the ocean, marine life and steps that can be adopted to save the Ocean. Underwater Photography Forum Newbies and existing photographers were treated with Underwater Photography Forum held during the event. Panel of Speakers shared and delivered their valuable knowledge and information on how photographers can maintain themselves in the industry as being in career, in business and professionalism. Audience were seen engaged with the panel of speakers with many questions. Interesting tips was shared with audience on various aspect on photography that is done currently and what are needed and can be done better for photography. Asia Dive Conference (ADCON), is a recreational and technical dive conference, gave an opportunity to delegates to learn the importance of maintenance and service of their dive and camera equipment on technicality, performance, mechanism and function of the equipment. Delegates were seen engaged in practical exercises to enhance their own skills and benefited from tips on how to elevate their knowledge and skills to become more proficient in handling, maintaining and when to send it to an authorised service centre. Delegates also learned on how their equipment can be pre-checked before every dive and when it is due for service.

Person With Disabilities (PWD)This year, the expo was seen with many person with disabilities (PWD) attending the expo. PWD presenters shared their successful stories of their journey of life and their love for scuba diving with the audience. Many divers also attended the presentation to learn the art to assist PWD to dive.

DiveDivas FanclubFor lady divers, members of DiveDivas Fanclub enjoyed the 2 days free Photography Course on how to master the techniques and learn the art of capturing good images through underwater photography course.

Speaker’s PresentationThere were also interesting and knowledgeable talks given during MIDE2017. Audience were seen immersed with the line of presentation on Dive Business, Career in Diving, Underwater Photography and Videography, Marine Conservation, Cave Diving, Dive Medicine as well as Product Knowledge that covered on dive computers, rebreather and more.

Lens Beyond Ocean CompetitionLens Beyond Ocean Underwater Photography Competition received overwhelming entries from 46 participants who came from 13 countries. The Macro category was won by Marchione Giacomo from Italy and for Wide Angle category was won by Yen-Yi Lee from Taiwan. Mr Kenji Cheow from Malaysia won under the category of Creative. As for Compact Camera, Dragos Dumitrescu from Romania took the first place. This year MIDE added Freediving as a new category to the competition and this was won by French photographer, Cedric Peneau from Reunion Island. Under Portfolio category Lilian Koh from Singapore was awarded for first place. Young Talent category was won by Garri Immanuel from Philippines. Winner’s photos was displayed during the expo.

A total of 7 winners took home fabulous prizes that was sponsored by 7 sponsors. They are Ceningan Divers, 7SEAS Dive Gili and AquaMarine Diving-Bali from Indonesia. The other 3 sponsors were from Malaysia, Tenggol Coral Beach, Scuba Junkie and Seaventures Dive Rig as well as one sponsor from Denmark, X-Ray Magazine.

Revenue Achieved The recorded sales of the whole 3-day event was approximately amounted to RM8.2 million, which is a very healthy sales figure coming from a niche industry. The expo will continue to deliver a great significant growth of revenue for participating companies now and in the future.

Lucky DrawWith all the amazing discounts and bargains happening during the event, there were fantastic goodie bags given away and about 20 lucky draw winners received wonderful diving packages and merchandises through Purchaser’s Lucky Draw. To top it all, Mr Fan Kiat Boon won the fabulous grand prize of three nights stay at Reef Dive Resort, Mataking.

Products & PackagesDiving community knows very well that MIDE is a shopping haven for them. Throughout the whole event, the exhibition hall were jam packed with shoppers who came to get their hands on the latest diving gears, equipment and other paraphernalia that were on great promotions. There were also exciting dive travel trip and diving courses promotions that were not missed by the visitors.

Educational Marine ProgramOne of MIDE’s core objective is to promote scuba diving to children. This year the expo was attended by 484 children. Presentation was organised to raise awareness of the Ocean and Marine Life with key focus on the Ecological and Marine Environment of the sea to the future young generation. Children was also treated to a movie screening at the expo.

Non-divers The expo was visited by 1777 non divers. Again, MIDE proved itself to be a successful platform to tickle the interest of the non-divers. A mobile pool try dive was made available for the non-divers to get a chance to strap on dive equipment and experience scuba diving themselves under the“Be A Diver” program.
