In response, he started the Honey Bee Network and began searching the country with colleagues, often on foot, finding a myriad of inventions developed out of necessity. These discoveries are documented and often shared with the global community, just as pollen is gathered by the honeybee to the benefit of both. Since 1988, the network's database of original inventions has grown to over 12,000, and its newsletter is now published in eight languages and distributed to 75 countries. Gupta also worked with the government of India to establish the National Innovation Foundation, which holds national competitions to encourage new inventors and helps sustain them through the National Micro Venture Innovation Fund. Through his efforts, Gupta has uncovered groundbreakingly useful devices such as a pedal-operated washing machine, a micro-windmill battery charger, a hoe powered by a bicycle, and many more.

INNOVATIVE PARTNER

Malaysian Innovation Foundation (YIM)

The Malaysian Innovation Foundation or Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia (YIM), was established on 20th October 2008 and was approved by Malaysian Cabinet on 7th November 2008. The vision of YIM is to promote and inculcate creativity and innovation among Malaysian citizens, especially targeting children and youth, women, rural folk, people with disabilities and non-government organizations.

With close support from the Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation(MOSTI), YIM was established by the Government to promote and champion innovation, and by doing so, to mobilize Malaysians to embrace and practice Creativity and Innovation. This could not have happened at a better time, when the nation is in need of a new impetus and catalyst to move it forward to a prosperous future.

Innovation is the engine that will propel us to that future. More so now when there are so many challenges confronting us, economic or otherwise. Indeed, Creativity and Innovation will energise the people like never before. And it will happen in all segments of our society, in our schools and colleges, from even the grassroots level, in our businesses and industries, and so on.

National Innovation Foundation-India(NIF)

The Department of Science and Technology (DST) India helped establish the National Innovation Foundation (NIF) - India, on Feb 28th 2000, with the main goal of providing institutional support in scouting, spawning, sustaining and scaling up grassroots green innovations and helping their transition to self supporting activities.

The foundation has a Governing Board chaired by Dr. R. A. Mashelkar, Former Director General CSIR. and President Global Research Alliance. Professor Anil K. Gupta, President SRISTI and Professor Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, is the Executive Vice Chairperson of NIF.

For the last twenty years the Honeybee Network and Society for Research and Initiatives for Sustainable Technologies and Institutions (SRISTI) have been scouting innovations by farmers, artisans, women, etc. at the grassroots level. Grassroots Innovations Augmentation Network (GIAN) scales up innovations, from the Honey Bee database of innovations, through value additions in innovations to sustain creativity and ethics of experimentation. GIAN was conceived at the International Conference on Creativity and Innovation at Grassroots (ICCIG), jointly organized by IIM Ahmedabad and SRISTI.

The Honey Bee database of 10,000 innovations, collected and documented by SRISTI, would be part of the National Register of Innovations to be managed and supported by NIF.
