Every state-funded school must offer a curriculum
which is balanced and broadly based and which:
Promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and
physical development of pupils at the school and of
society, and
Prepares pupils at the school for the
opportunities, responsibilities and
experiences of later life.
The national curriculum is just one element in the education of every child. There is time and space in the school day and in each week, term and year to range beyond the national curriculum specifications. The national curriculum provides an outline of core knowledge around which teachers can develop exciting and stimulating lessons to promote the development of pupils’ knowledge, understanding and skills as part of the wider school curriculum.
Use world maps, atlases and globes to identify the United Kingdom and its countries, as well as the countries, continents and oceans studied at this key stage
Use simple compass directions (north, south, east and west) and locational and directional language [for example, near and far, left and right], to describe the location of features and routes on a map
Use aerial photographs and plan perspectives to recognise landmarks and basic human and physical features; devise a simple map; and use and construct basic symbols in a key
Use simple fieldwork and observational skills to study the geography of their school and its grounds and the key human and physical features of its surrounding environment

laminate it. 5) Take photos of yours and other maps, so
you can load them onto your IWB if you wish
