MAKING FAITH PART OF EVERYDAY LIFE
There are practical ways to live out Deuteronomy 6.
“Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up” (Deuteronomy 6:6- 7). Rolling down a window and placing orders for six value-pack meals with crinkle fries and Dr. Peppers hardly seems a fulfill-ment of the Old Testament instruction to talk about the things of God with our children. Yet, it can be. Every day, parents are faced with opportunities to teach Biblical truths. Impress them on your children, God says. Surely this means to engrave His words deeply in their hearts, to etch them in their very souls. So start early, and don’t stop. In 2 Timothy 3:15, Paul reminds Timothy that he has known the Scriptures from infancy. Let a children’s Bible be your first gift to your baby. Read aloud the timeless stories, even before he or she understands the meaning. Include “Jesus Loves Me” in your repertoire of lullabies. As your child grows, consider incorporating basic memory verses into your family nights. Teaching God’s words and pre-cepts can be as simple as leaving your child an encouraging Scripture on the bathroom mirror, or as tender as placing a verse that addresses his or her specific needs on a pillow. Begin each morning with a statement of praise: “Look at the beautiful day God made.” From the time my four girls were infants, I carried them downstairs in the morning so they could “help” me open the blinds. Waiting for a glimpse of the out-doors, I would say, “What kind of day did God make for mom-my’s girls?” The answer was always either, “A sunny play day” or, “A cozy cloudy day.” They learned that both days had their own kind of fun and that both were gifts from the Father. Adopt this habit from Psalm 5:3: “In the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.” Basically, pray for your child(ren) every morning. By: Cindy S. Dagnun Focus on the Family

Who do you love the most? Your family! Valentine’s Day activities for parents and kids provide the perfect
way to celebrate this love-fest of a holiday. Check out these awesome activities that will inspire imagina-
tion, exploration and family bonding. So go ahead, and make some magical moments as you prep for this
heart-felt holiday!
Lunch Bunch:
Now that you’re a parent, you’re all about family time. Get your gang together and prep a Valentine’s
meal. Shape slices of bread with a heart cookie cutter. Set out a buffet of the family’s favorites,
making sure to put something out that each person loves. Instead of building your own sandwich,
give each person someone else to prep for. The goal of the game here is to correctly pick out your
chosen person’s favorite foods and make a heart-shaped sandwich that matches.
Dinner Date:
Invite a friend or family member over (or the sitter), and have the kids help them to prep your holiday
meal. They can measure and mix ingredients and create crafty menus. The kids can even set the
table, picking out a holiday color scheme or designing their own artsy décor.
Hearty Art:
Forget about those store-bought Valentine’s Day decorations. Your creative kid wants to make their
own! Make this a parent-child activity by creating heart-shaped art to decorate your dining room,
playroom or anywhere else. Cut hearts out from colorful craft felt. Use a hole punch on each side
of the hearts and string them together with pretty ribbon. Now you’ve got a DIY heart garland!
Hang it around the windows, dress up the dinner table or string it around the doors.
Pretty Poetry:
Get some rhyming action in and have your child write their own poem. Even very young children can
participate in this lyrical activity. Ask your child to list their favorite things. This can be anything
from the family pet to their BFF. Create short sentences or phrases around each point on the list.
Help your child to write a rhyming sentence that matches it.
Don’t forget to snap some photos in between the fun and use them to create a Valentine’s Day-themed
board book that the whole family will love to look back on for years to come!
Happy Valentine’s Day to all our Parkview Family. Jesus loves you and so do we!

LISA JACKSON
Hello! My name is Lisa Jackson. I teach Stepping Stones in room 135. Before deciding to become a teacher, I thought I wanted to be a pediatric nurse. I soon learned that I can’t stand the sight of blood. I am happy that I am still able to work with children. When I am not teaching I enjoy shopping, run-ning, and eating out. I also enjoy spending time with my daughters.
FRUIT JUICE & YOUR CHILD’S DIET
Children can easily drink a lot of juice
because juice tastes good. However,
too much juice in your child’s diet can
contribute to other problems, like poor
nutrition, obesity, and tooth decay.
Parents can continue to offer age-
appropriate servings of juice in addi-
tion to offering whole fruits and other
beverage options like water or low-fat
milk. Cutting the juice with water is al-
so a good idea to limit the amount of
juice consumed.
