MAKE-UP – AISHLING LAWLOR

MAKE-UP – AISHLING LAWLOR

CLIENT PROFILE:

My client’s name is Aishling and she is 19 years old. She has an active lifestyle

and she works full time inside a supermarket, doing different jobs every day.

She still lives with her parents but intends to move on her own in the future.

Aishling has decided to come to me today to get an evening makeup, because she

has to attend to a birthday party tonight. About the clothes she is going to wear she

Page 12: Make Up Case Study

told me that she has a marine blue and black strapless dress, and that she is not a

big fan of jewelry and that she wants her eye to attract all attention, as she has a

small problem with her denture and she wants people to notice her eyes rather than

her lips. When I met her she had no makeup on, and after I did a superficial cleanse

I inspected her skin with the magnifying lamp and found out that her moisture

level, elasticity and healing ability were all good, but the circulation was a little bit

faulty especially around the eyes, were it was very obvious that she smokes. Her

overall skin type was a combination of oily and dry skin.

BEFORE AND AFTER:

After:

Page 14: Make Up Case Study

FINISHED RESULT:

Whenever she goes out, she likes a darker foundation than usual, and very dark

eyes, this time, I went for a medium color for the foundation which was dark

enough for her fair skin anyway, and more blue for the eyes to try and match the

dress.

She was happy with the result; she liked the blue color, as she had never used blue

for her eyes before. She told me it went very well with the lighter color on her lips

and that the attention was pointed towards her eyes as she wanted from the

beginning of this session. After I finished applying the make-up, as I knew she

needed to have it on for a longer time, because she will be dancing at this birthday

Page 15: Make Up Case Study

party tonight, I sprayed over her make-up thermal water because it will help fix it

better onto the skin, and so it will last longer.

REFLECTIVE PRACTICE AND CONCLUSION:

Now I have to say that for better results I need a very good moisturizer to apply to

the skin before starting with the make-up. I believe that the moisturizer will help

the make-up get into the skin better and will keep the skin hydrated all the time,

and that is one important step when applying make-up. Another thing I want to

perfect is the application of the corrective cream, I have to let blend it in better, and

to let it set before I apply the foundation, I know to do that the next time. What I

figured this time is that when applying the eyeliner on the bottom lash line it’s best

to try and use a brush for this procedure, when eyes are sensitive because this may

cause discomfort to the client and make her blink all the time; this will make the

application harder. The next time I will try to reassure my client more during this

procedure so that she will be comfortable with everything I am doing.

I was happy with the result, my client was happy with the result so I believe that I

achieved what I wanted this time with my client. The whole make-up session took

me a little longer than I expected so I believe I need more practice in the future to

achieve the best time for the best result.

MAKE-UP – MIRIAM LAWLESS

Page 16: Make Up Case Study

CLIENT PROFILE:

Miriam is a 19 year old girl that works in a supermarket as well. Her skin type is a

combination between and oily T zone and sensitive on her cheeks, and today she

came to me to have a day make up done, because she had never had a make-up

done before by someone else and she wanted to try this one out today. She is in

good health, has some problems with her weight but trying to get rid of it by

turning to a healthier lifestyle. She is in college during the week and works during

weekends. She has no specific allergies to a specific product but she said that some

products may provoke a bad reaction of her skin. As I stated previously she used to

apply harsh products on her skin and now because of that her sensitivity rate has

increased. She goes out often and doesn’t sleep too much at night and because of

that she had developed black circles under her eyes. So today we’ve met to try out

a day make-up on Miriam.

BEFORE AND AFTER RESULT:

BEFORE:

AFTER:

Page 18: Make Up Case Study

FINISHED RESULT:

I really believe that the choice of colors was extremely suitable for her green eyes,

because they were so obvious and bright after this. Miriam was used to wear darker

colors, and a very dark foundation. I took advantage of the fact that she had some

freckles present, because I tried to keep some of them visible, because in my

opinion they bring a very natural look, and that is exactly what we want to see in a

day makeup, nothing too heavy just a touch of everything in the right place. I also

thought that the choice of colors worked very nicely with her hair color too. And as

her skin is very bright I tried to keep that aspect in consideration and no blended

nicely between the neck and the lower jaw line to create a natural look, and not a

mask. She said it was easy to wear and that she didn’t feel it heavy at all.

Page 19: Make Up Case Study

REFLECTIVE PRACTICE AND CONCLUSION:

I do know that I could have done better with hiding the circles under the eyes, and

the next time I will do so. I think as an overall idea the make-up was natural,

simple and a good match for her eyes, hair and skin tone. Initially the lighter brown

on the upper lid wasn’t very visible, but I applied more brown eyeliner, smudged it

and then gradually built the color towards the crease where I used the brick orange

shade to amplify the color of her eyes. The timing was better this time, still need

more practice to achieve the best timing for applying makeup. I used a make-up

sponge for applying the foundation but I find it hard to work with, as the dampness

inside it tends to fade away very fast and I had to keep a bowl of water close to me

to soak it several times.

I was content with the result with the colors I’ve chosen to represent my client, my

client was happy with the result as well, just found it a little lighter than usual, and

she agreed that her face looked brighter and natural.

MAKE-UP – NICOLETA SUCIU

CLIENT PROFILE:

Page 20: Make Up Case Study

Nicoleta has just turned 30; she’s married and has a wonderful little boy for 2 years

now. Her skin is mainly dry, with dry patches here and there and as I already said

in the main profile, she has a big problem with the skin care routine, because she

doesn’t have any. Her skin was normal until she got her, and I believe that the

dryness in her skin has a lot to do with the hard water we have here. She got

married at 23, and she didn’t have a beauty therapist or make-up artist to help her

with the make-up back then, so today we are having a make-up trial because in 2

weeks time Nico and her husband intend to renew their vows and she wants to look

well. She won’t be wearing a white dress, but a nice 2 piece: a floral tunic and

white trousers, as they want to do this by the sea.

She is not sure about the flowers yet but she doesn’t want anything fancy, so she

will keep it simple, maybe calla lilies, or white roses, she is not very sure yet. Her

hair color is a nice red color, and I’m going to have to combine the colors to match

her needs. This is a very special day for her, and I’m going to take my time for this

one, just to make sure that everything turns out the way she wants it to be, because

nothing compares to a very happy client.

MAKE-UP CHART:

PREBASE: APPLIED, LEFT TO DRY

CONCEALER: LIGHT SHADE SIDES OF THE NOSE, TIP OF NOSE

CORRECTIVE CREAM: A LITTLE BIT OF REDNESS ON HER CHEEKS, SO

I COVERED IT WITH GREEN CORRCTIVE CREAM, AND I USED THE

LILIAC FOR ANY DARKER SHADE PRESENT ON HER SKIN, UNDER THE

EYES, AROUND THE MOUTH

FOUNDATION: MEDIUM COLOR (sand shade 220) LIQUID FOUNDATION

POWDER: LOOSE MEDIUM SHADE TRANSLUCEND POWDER

Page 21: Make Up Case Study

BLUSHER: SOFT PINK

SHADER: NOT USED THIS TIME

HIGHLIGHTER: NOT USED THIS TIME

EYESHADOW: METALLIC PINK, BRICK ORANGE, LIGHT BROWN

EYELINER: SOFT BROWN, USED FULL WAY ON THE UPPER LASH LINE

MASCARA: BROWN

LIPLINER: APRICOT

LIPSTICK: SENSUAL PLUM

LIPGLOSS: CLEAR LIPGLOSS

OTHER: SOFT BROWN EYEBROW PENCIL

FINAL RESULT:

She was very happy with the result, so happy that she nearly cried, but I guess it

was because she was so nervous about doing this step once again. She has lovely

green eyes, but they look a little blue in the sun light, and depending on her mood

so I tried to make her eyes more obvious. She told me she likes it because it’s

natural but in the same time sophisticated and that she likes to keep it simple. She

also remember that the first time she got married she was wearing a shade of blue

for the eye makeup and that really traumatized her back then. I was also looking

great in the daylight; I also chose to work in the daylight to see exactly how the

colors work together and if they are blended evenly to create a nice finish, and in

this case I was satisfied, so was my client, which in this situation happened to be

my sister.

REFLECTIVE PRACTICE AND CONCLUSION:

Page 22: Make Up Case Study

I have to say that Nicoleta is very aware of her skin and imperfections, and

concerned about the way she looks in this kind of situations, so that is why she

insisted on helping me chose the right color for her big day.

The finish result was a good one, and the feedback was positive which was

encouraging considering my lack of experience in bridal make-up. Maybe the next

time I do this I will insist more on the eyes, to try and create a more mysterious

look, but still a natural one, a look that can be easily turned into an evening make-

up for the after party. The moisturizer I used this time was great in keeping the dry

patches moisturized and nourished so that they won’t ruin the flawless finish. She

also has some small moles on her face and I could have concealed them better this

time, but again my inexperience said it all. I will know what to do the next time

and how to handle a similar problem without having a bad result. Even when I took

pictures, the flash from the camera didn’t give her a wither color, meaning that the

combination used as foundation, powder and blusher was effective.

The aims of this procedure were reached, and my client told me that she will like

me to do her make-up on her second best day of her life.

Page 23: Make Up Case Study

MAKE-UP – MARINELA SUCIU

CLIENT PROFILE:

My client is 54 years old, and she came to me to have her make-up done for a

special occasion, which will take place two weeks from now, her daughter is

renewing her vows, so it’s a very important day for her family.

As I said before her skin is in a very good shape, she has lost a little bit of her

elasticity but, her facial contours are good, her skin is clear, not dry nor greasy, just

normal and radiant. She had always taken care of the way she looks, but avoided

cosmetic products, as she believes that nature is the best ally for beauty.

She has never worn make-up in her life, except for eyebrow pencil and lipstick to

which she is addicted to. She asked for a natural day makeup, nothing very

complicated because she likes to keep everything very simple, she believes that the

simpler you get the more beautiful you are, less is more!

What I didn’t mention is that at this event everybody will be wearing summery

clothes, a lot of bright colors, white, pastels nothing too heavy. Marinela will be

wearing purple and white or at least that is what she would like to wear for this

event. Her hair is a darker red, that mixes with a shade of purple, which is not very

bright, and so I have to adapt the colors to complete a nice even make-up using all

the details I can get about that day.

MAKE-UP CHART:

PREBASE: NOT USED THIS TIME

CONCEALER: LIGHT SHADE SIDES OF THE NOSE, TIP OF NOSE, A

LITTLE BIT AROUND THE CHEEK AREA

CORRECTIVE CREAM: A LITTLE BIT OF REDNESS ON HER CHEEKS, SO

I COVERED IT WITH GREEN CORRCTIVE CREAM, AND I USED THE

Page 24: Make Up Case Study

LILIAC FOR ANY DARKER SHADE PRESENT ON HER SKIN, UNDER THE

EYES, AROUND THE MOUTH

FOUNDATION: A LIQUID FAIR SHADE FOUNDATION

POWDER: LOOSE MEDIUM SHADE TRANSLUCEND POWDER

BLUSHER: SOFT PINK

SHADER: NOT USED THIS TIME

HIGHLIGHTER: NOT USED THIS TIME

EYESHADOW: METALLIC PINK, BRICK ORANGE, LIGHT BROWN

EYELINER: SOFT BROWN, USED FULL WAY ON THE UPPER LASH LINE

MASCARA: BROWN

LIPLINER: APRICOT

LIPSTICK: SENSUAL PLUM

LIPGLOSS: CLEAR LIPGLOSS

OTHER: SOFT BROWN EYEBROW PENCIL

FINAL RESULT:

When I took the picture I realized that I’ve used too much concealer, but it was

only obvious when I took the picture and have used the flash. Concealer contains

light reflecting particles and when applied too much it might give this whitening

effect under the eye area which is not very esthetic. I know the next time to try and

temper the color a little bit, to blend it in more and to try and get a nice flawless

finish look. Marinela was very pleased with the result, she was shocked actually,

because it was the first time she was wearing make-up in her life, she told me that

she was feeling it a little heavy on her face, but that it looks nice and neat. She

couldn’t stop looking into the mirror, she was very nervous about the result

because she didn’t know what to expect. The timing was good enough, and except

for the concealer application everything else went on smoothly. It was official now

Page 25: Make Up Case Study

I was the one to perform the make-up for the big day, and that only gave me

satisfaction.

REFLECTIVE PRACTICE:

I know in the future to try and work more carefully with concealers, and with the

loose powder application, because I don’t want the skin to appear cakey, I want it

to look matte and bright. And I will try to concentrate on the eyes more because at

such events the lipstick tends to wear off, even if I use a very good lip liner to keep

everything in place, the eyes have to be the main focus. As a conclusion I will say

that every time I perform the make-up on someone knew I learn a little bit more

about make-up, shades, colors, aims, and I try to satisfy everyone in the best way I

can. My main concern was to see my client pleased with it, and once again I got a

positive feedback, which was great!
