Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church & School 20882 Walden Ave. Hutchinson, MN 55350
Sunday School Children Sing - “Clap Your Hands”
HYMN - 130 “Hosanna, Loud Hosanna”
We follow Service of Word and Sacrament on page 26.
PRAYER OF THE DAY
We praise you, O God, for the great acts of love by which you have
redeemed us through your Son, Jesus Christ. As he was acclaimed by those
who scattered their garments and branches of palm in his path, so may we
always hail him as our King and follow him with perfect confidence; who
lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
FIRST LESSON - Zechariah 9:9,10
9 Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king
comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a
colt, the foal of a donkey. 10
I will take away the chariots from Ephraim and
the warhorses from Jerusalem, and the battle bow will be broken. He will
proclaim peace to the nations. His rule will extend from sea to sea and from
the River to the ends of the earth. (NIV)
PSALM 24 on page 73
SECOND LESSON - Philippians 2:5-11
5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ
Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God
something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself
nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human
likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by
becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! 9 Therefore God exalted
him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and
under the earth, 11
and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to
the glory of God the Father. (NIV)
CHOIR - “Glory to God, Hosanna in the Highest”
GOSPEL - Matthew 21:1-11
1 As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of
Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of
you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie
them and bring them to me. 3 If anyone says anything to you, say that the
Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.”
4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:
5 “Say to
Daughter Zion, See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey,
and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’”
6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them.
7 They brought the
donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. 8 A
very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches
from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 The crowds that went ahead of
him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!”
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Hosanna in the highest
heaven!”
10 When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who
is this?” 11
The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth
in Galilee.” (NIV)
