The Volvo Ocean Race is quite simply the ‘Everest of Sailing’. During the nine months racing, the professional crews will sail 39,000 nautical miles of the globe’s most treacherous seas, experiencing gales and storms as well as dangers such as icebergs, ocean debris and whales. Each of the 10 host ports will stage an ‘in-port’ race comprising several short inshore races scoring points towards the overall winner’s trophy. It is undeniably the world’s premier global race and one of the most demanding team sporting events in the world. To compete requires the utmost in skill, physical endurance and competitive spirit.
