Hazrat Abu Hurairahra narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Verily, Allah likes three things for you and dislikes three things for you. He is pleased with you that you worship Him and associate nothing with Him, that you hold fast to the rope of Allah and are not scattered. He dislikes that you should gossip, persistent questioning and the wasting of wealth.” (Sahih Muslim, Kitab-ul-Aqdhiya)

Saying of the

PROMISED MESSIAHAS

O fortunate ones! Follow with eagerness the teaching which has been given to me for your salvation. Believe in God as One and without as-sociate, and do not associate anything with Him either in heaven or in the earth. God does not forbid you to employ means but he who turns aside from God and depends entirely upon means is an idolater. God

has ever affirmed that there is no salvation without a pure heart, so be-come pure-hearted and cast aside egoistic rancour and fury. Man’s ego has many impurities but the greatest of all is the filth of arrogance. Had

there been no arrogance, no one would have disbelieved. So become meek of heart and have sympathy for all mankind. You preach to them

about paradise, but how can your preaching be honest if you should wish them ill in this transient world? Discharge your obligations to God

Almighty with fear in your hearts for you will be called to account in respect of them. Supplicate earnestly in your Prayers so that God may draw you to Himself and purify your hearts.” (Tadhkirat-ush-Shahada-

tain, Ruhani Khaza’in, vol. 20, p. 63)

Today, it is a great favour of Allah the Almighty that we have been given the opportunity to accept the Promised Messiahas and have been organized into a system that directs our attention towards the commandments of Allah and His the practice of His beloved Messengersa. Unlike other Muslim sects, we aren’t scattered; rather, we have been arranged under one fold through the blessings of Khilafat. It is also a favour of Allah the Almighty upon us that in accordance with His promise to the Promised Messiahas, He granted him an intelligent and perceptive son, who was fi lled with secular and spiritual knowledge, who organized the Jama’at in an administrative system from the smallest scale right up to the national and international level. This is an excellent system which not only deals with administration, but also encompasses matters of religious training, outreach, education and other important matters. Then, in order to enable every section of the Jama’at to realize their responsibilities, to get them involved in Jama’at matters, and to make them understand its importance, he established Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya, Atfal-ul-Ahmadiyya, Lajna Ima’illah and Ansarullah. Today, it is for this reason that every member of the Jama’at – whether they be a child or adolescent, man or woman – whoever has a connection with their auxiliary organizations from an early age, understands the system of the Jama’at and the importance of obedience. Those who actively participate in these auxiliary organizations know their extents, the extents of their organizations, the importance of the system of the Jama’at and how to obey the Khalifa of the time.” (Friday Sermon, June 9, 2006)

EDITORIALA human’s life passes through many stages. It is a constant struggle from the cradle to the grave. As time flows forward, one’s responsibilities exponentially increase as well. At fi rst, decisions are made for you, but eventually, you are given the right to choose for yourself. Thereafter, you reach a stage beyond that of adolescence through life experiences, where others seek your counsel in matters of importance. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that to develop order in one’s personality, it is imperative that an appropriate environment and upbringing is present. If such conditions are readily available, where, along with one’s education and moral upbringing, one’s physical and mental health is also cultivated, then one can truly attain success.

It is a great favour of Allah upon us that he has made us Ahmadi Muslims and has forever fastened us to a divine institution that, in essence, is unimaginably lofty. Of the many milestones achieved in the life of Hadrat Musleh Mau’udra, the establishment of Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya is remarkable. With this institution, Huzoorra provided the youth with a platform, which would instill and inculcate qualities of leadership, and the many departments within this institution reflect that objective. In reality, the youth of this community are its fortune because they are the ones who will bear the burden

of this torch in the future. In regards to this, Hazrat Khalifatul-Masih IIra has stated, “I have continuously stressed to the community that nations cannot be reformed without the reformation of its youth.” (Tahrikh-e-Ahmadiyyat V. 7 Pg. 445)

Similarly, where Hazrat Khalifatul-Masih IIra has accentuated the importance of the youth in their age, he has also written a grand poem, which is fi lled, to the brim with great advice for the youth. In one couplet, he has stated:

“When we pass away, all the responsibility will fall upon you,rid of your sluggishness and do not seek ease!”

Further elaborating this couplet, he states, “Until one does not inculcate in oneself the habit of work, one cannot expect to be prepared when the time comes. This is a false notion that when a responsibility befalls someone, that he will be ready”.

So, where the works of Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya further the prosperity of the community as a whole, it also bequeaths to the youth qualities of leadership and reforms their personality. Dear brothers, where the works of this institution are a source of abundant grace for you, they also take part in developing your educational and work ethics, personality, will power, patience, fervor, skills and realization of responsibilities. So, come towards the works of this institution, collecting the favours of Allah the Almighty, while utilizing the strengths he has given you and become a pillar for this community. May Allah give us all the ability to take every step forward with utter obedience to Khilafat. Ameen. (Kashif Mahmood Danish, Sadr Majlis Khuddāmul Ahmadiyya Canada)

THE ESTABLISHMENT OF MAJLIS THE ESTABLISHMENT OF MAJLIS KHUDDAMUL AHMADIYYAKHUDDAMUL AHMADIYYA

“I shall always be ready to sacrifice my life, wealth, time and honor…I shall be ready to offer any sacrifice for guard-ing the institution of Khilafat-e-Ahmadiyya.”

From the outset of Hazrat Khalifatul-Masih II’sra Khila-fat, he placed great emphasis on the education and refor-mation of Ahmadi youth. He urged that young men should take great care in regards to their faith and in maintaining excellent moral values.

In 1938, a momentous step was taken in ensuring that young Ahmadi men would up-hold the principles of Islam to the highest degree. Thus, on January 31st, 1938, with the special permission of Haz-rat Khalifatul-Masih IIra, ten young men of Qadian gath-ered at the home of Sheikh Mahboob Alam Sahib, M.A.. In that historic gathering, Mau-lawi Qamar-ud-Din Sahib was appointed the president of a new auxiliary organization and Sheikh Mahboob Alam Sahib was appointed its sec-retary. A few days later, on February 4th, 1938, this orga-nization formally received the

name “Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ah-madiyya”.

Regarding the need for this in-credible scheme, Hazrat Khal-ifatul-Masih IIra stated:“My purpose in forming this organization was so that teaching which is buried with-in our hearts does not get ex-tinguished, rather, that it may continue to be buried within the hearts of each coming generation...until the point that it is engrained within us. Until it adheres to our hearts and takes such a state that it is benefi cial and a blessing for the world”.

After its foundation, the branches of Majlis Khud-dam-ul-Ahmadiyya began to spread throughout India. What was just a sapling then, would one day grow to be-come a flourishing and fruitful tree. At fi rst, the main work of the Khuddam was to study books of religious knowledge and wisdom, most notably the Holy Qur’an, the books of Hadith, books of history, and jurisprudence. They were also tasked with refuting the attacks and allegations made against Ahmadiyyat and the institution of Khilafat-e-Ah-madiyya.

Gradually, Majlis Khud-dam-ul-Ahmadiyya began to evolve not only in academ-ic fi elds, but also in admin-istrative aspects. Under the supervision of Hazrat Khali-fatul-Masih IIra, Majlis Khud-dam-ul-Ahmadiyya was divid-ed into multiple departments, which included Waqar-e-Amal (community service), Khid-mat-e-Khalq (service to hu-manity), Tabligh (preaching and outreach), Tarbiyat-o-Is-lah (training and reformation), Ta’lim (education), Atfal (Ah-madi boys), Sehat-e-Jisma-ni (physical health), Mal (fi -nance), Isha’at (propagation), and Eitemad (secretariat). It must be kept in mind, how-ever, that one of the core pur-

poses for the establishment of this organization was to fa-cilitate the reformation of the youth. This was to be done by bringing them together and providing them a platform where they could work side-by-side and with a sense of broth-erhood. It also gave the youth an opportunity to instill essen-tial moral and religious values within themselves. Hazrat Khalifatul-Masih IIra would ex-plain that by putting young men of similar ages together, it would allow them to grow and mature in a comfortable en-vironment, where they would be encouraging each other to excel in good works. In addi-tion, it is often much easier to listen to advice from someone in your age group, rather than from an elder.

Over the next 79 years, Ma-jlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya would expand tremendously, fi rmly establishing its roots in over 200 countries, with tens of thousands of members. Today, the dynamic nature of this organization is appar-ent just by observing the fact that its membership consists of many highly qualifi ed pro-fessionals, including doctors, lawyers, teachers, engineers, architects, and even govern-

ment offi cials. Truly, Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya has become a symbol of devotion and brotherhood amongst young men.

The Canadian branch of Maj-lis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya is an ideal example of what this organization represents in the world. With chapters spanning from east to west, with over 5000 members, it is one of the largest and most developed Muslim youth organizations in North America. Majlis Khud-dam-ul-Ahmadiyya Canada has put into action numerous events, programs, and initia-tives that have brought great benefi t to the Jama’at and the surrounding communities at large.

Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadi-yya Canada has also taken the words of Hazrat Khalifatul-Ma-sih IIra that “nations cannot be reformed without the refor-mation of the youth” to heart in a unique way, by launching the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association, or AMYA. AMYA is the largest Muslim youth organization of its kind in Can-ada, with the goal of guiding young Ahmadi men to not only successful futures, but futures that make incredible

changes in the world. It seeks to instruct and teach these young men the true Qur’anic teachings of peace, tolerance, and service to mankind. It stresses the need to work in-side the communities we live in and to give back to society. One example of this is when AMYA began its humanitarian campaign, in which hundreds of students from around the country planted trees in major cities. It has also tackled major societal issues. For instance, in response to ISIS and the growing number of radicalized youth in Canada, the AMYA put into effect an anti-radical-ization campaign called “Stop the crISIS”, with the purpose of counteracting radicalization of youth in Canada and stop the spread of extremism.

Since the inception of this magnifi cent scene so many decades ago, under the nurtur-ing care of Khilafat-e-Ahmadi-yya, Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ah-madiyya has now established its roots across the globe. Through God’s grace, it will forever continue to train and guide Ahmadi youth, in whose hands the future of the world rests. Insha’Allah!

THE FOUNDER OF MAJLIS KHUDDAM-UL-AHMADIYYA AS

Basil Raza Butt

The night was still very dark. Several hours probably remained until dawn would break and the faithful of Qadian would be awoken by the adhan for Fajr prayer. A certain pious companion of the Promised Messiah, however, decided to break his sleep, perform ablution and spend the remaining hours of the night in the tasteful remembrance and worship of his Lord. He thought that the mosque would be empty so early in the morning, and thus he could engage in a tahajjud prayer as long as his heart desired. But upon entering the mosque, he saw something that left him quite speechless. A young and frail boy was in prostration, in front of his Lord, incessantly crying and imploring something in an emotional state. The companion, although incredibly moved by the sight, began to offer his prayer. But the cries of the young boy increased in intensity, moving the heart of the companion so much, that he forgot about his own prayer and began to implore, ‘O Allah, give this young man what he wants.” In this state, the prayers of both worshippers came to an end. The young boy got up and headed for the exit.

The companion looked up at his face, which was glowing with dignity and majesty, noticing redness in his eyes from the crying. A young Hazrat Mirza Bashiruddin

Mahmood Ahmadra stood right in front of him. “Did you ask for everything?” the companion inquired. The young Mirza Mahmood Ahmadra passionately replied, “I only asked that the victory of Islam should occur at my hand.” Such was the mind of the individual who founded the institution of Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya, or the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association. Rightly so, the expectations he held from the members of this institution were nothing less than the grand mission he had come to advance. That

mission was to convince every heart in the world that the undeniable truth it is seeking, is in fact Islam. Sitting in the comfort of our affluent society, though, a question should flood the heart of every indignant Ahmadi Khadim: how can he contribute to the great and momentous task Hazrat Musleh Mau’udra entrusted to us? As youth living in a part of the world abundant in wealth and luxury, our minds are corroded on a daily basis from recognizing the greatness our lives are truly meant for. This state of ignorance causes many of us to settle for small and insignifi cant goals and to be satisfi ed with paltry results in life. Very often, we forget the true worth of our capacities. The model of Hazrat Musleh Mau’udra is our greatest answer to this subject. Had we the courage and commitment to raise the vision of our standards, we would see that what the founder of Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya intended for us was nothing less than a spiritual conquest of hearts, of a global proportion. This was a goal Hazrat Musleh Mau’udra had embedded in every fi ber of his being and which he himself reflected

AN EXCELLENT ROLE MODEL

Page 11: Majlis Khuddāmul Ahmadiyya Canada AN-NIDA’

An-Nidā’ 11throughout his life. As frail as his health was, his young heart had geared up the strength of standing up to the entire world by the age of seventeen to declare the truthfulness of the Promised Messiahas. where our destiny will take us. Conversely, against all odds and adversaries, this man became the destiny for hundreds of thousands of people by becoming the spiritual successor of the Promised Messiahas. These were but the light droplets of water foreshadowing the coming of a torrential rain of achievements and excellences. Fifty two years sounds like a long time, yet when one sees the list of his accomplishments, he is left wondering in all honesty: Where did he get the time and energy for this work? “Anwar-ul-Uloom” is one compilation of his works, spanning 24 volumes, which cover every imaginable topic from archeology to astronomy to politics, to psychology, medicine, law and most undoubtedly,

true spirituality. The ten-volume “Tafsir-e-Kabir” commentary overflowing with Qur’anic wisdom is the only commentary of its sort that can stand strong and fi rm

in the modern age, against all allegations of falsehood. Scholarly work on one side, this man was an extraordinary orator, poet, political advisor, outstanding administrator, educator, astute researcher, social activist, visionary of unparalleled degree and a spiritual leader whose sight would melt hearts. Truly, here was an individual only select eras are blessed with.

It would not at all surprise us to know that every moment of his 25 years as a Khadim – from the passionate youngster of 15 to the incredible intellectual of 40 – serves as a shining torch for us Khuddam to illuminate the path to greatness. The teenager Khadim ought to note the pain of Hazrat Musleh Mau’ud’sra prayers in his youth. The middle-aged Khadim should ponder over the fortitude of his character when he faced mass opposition from within and outside of the Jama’at. Elders should reflect over the inspirational wisdom that he shed through his lectures. Like an athlete that sets a role model for himself, whose career he desires to mirror, let us look at Al-Musleh Al-Mau’ud Hazrat Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmood Ahmadra whilst treading on the path to greatness. If we can realize this, the word Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya will itself become the organization promoting the advancement of this Jama’at.

(It is my wish) that you be unique in this world, not having any equivalent or equal; That you give to the entire world, but in

your hand there be nothing implored.

How MKA Brought CHANGE IN MY LIFE

By Jaleese Dar

Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya, the literal servants of Ahmadiyyat. Founded in 1938, our black and white stripes stand as sharp as ever. To outsiders the easiest compari-son is often with the YMCA, but what we are is so much more than that. Not only are we a volunteer force for our community we are the flagbearers for our ideals: we take part in charitable events, we clean up our commu-nity, we work together on myriad projects to better our community. When writers and theorists discuss community ideals, they’re referring to us and the ideals we not only espouse but practice. The world right now could do with a lot more of Khuddam-ul-Ah-madiyya. What MKA provides is a sense of belonging and community, a way to stay active and involved in local and regional af-

fairs, and a way to strengthen your faith. The current zeitgeist amongst the youth of the world is one of uncertainty, a desire to fi nd their calling, a desire to belong. Youth today are growing up in a world where the political climate is uncertain, the economic climate is uncertain, and the natural envi-ronment itself is on the brink of a possible collapse. We see a political climate of fear and of intense dissatisfaction with how the world is being run. We see demagogues run-ning for leadership positions; we see them winning. We see the rise of authoritarianism and ethno-centric nationalism. People have given up on their politicians and their gov-ernments. They do not see a place in the world for themselves, they do not truly live in their communities. MKA is the perfect av-enue for youth: here is a place where we be-

An-Nidā’ 13long, here is a place where everyone comes together and can forget their differences and work on our shared goals. This is the origi-nal purpose of governance and democracy, to give a voice to the people. Here I have a voice, here I am an agent of change. Here I work together with my neighbours and clean up my neighbourhood, here I meet my broth-ers-in-arms and build the bonds of brother-hood and trust that are the quintessence of community and belonging. While our peers may be uncertain about who they are and what they are doing, we have an answer waiting for us. We are Khuddam, we are the helpers of the community. Identity is an in-credibly important thing for an individual. We see it in our schools and colleges and uni-versities: people trying to fi nd an identity for themselves. As an immigrant to this country my desire for an identity is strong, because at times it can feel like you belong to this world and that world...or neither. What I take strength from is that I can line up shoulder to shoulder with someone whom I may not agree with anything about (personal philos-ophy, politics, taste in food, everything) but I have trust in the knowledge that he and I are both Khuddam. We are the same despite our

differences. We both belong here, we both can thrive here.

What defi nes a thriving community? Is it the size of the houses, the number of cars in the driveway, the year-on-year increase in prop-erty values? Or is it the involvement of its members? With Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya we build a bond with our neighbourhoods, our boroughs, our cities. Certain musicians may claim to belong to the streets, but it is only with active community involvement that there can be any truth to that statement. We can keep your streets clean, we can raise money and gather foodstuffs for those less fortunate than ourselves, we can donate the very blood in our veins to save the lives of those we have never and may never meet. We can play sports with or against our next door neighbour. We can debate the direction we want to take our community, we can be genuine and impactful agents of change. This is the true spirit of leadership, the true spirit of brotherhood. I can get experience with event coordination, I can work on skill based tasks and projects. Where else could one learn to run an event, know how to make and put up banners, set up and wind up ta-

Page 14: Majlis Khuddāmul Ahmadiyya Canada AN-NIDA’

bles and chairs, distribute and disseminate information about an event, write about events, work inside a reporting structure, have the chance to lead teams ranging from a handful to hundreds of like-minded and like-spirited individuals, play and devel-op sporting and athletic skills? Where else but here? All of those are skills and experi-ences that can be put on a resume (to the point where you have to pick and choose what goes on because the list could extend for pages). All of these experiences build our character, build an inner strength. The stress and unexpected events that may oc-cur serve only to make us resilient and ca-pable of handling any situation. You get to experience leading a huge variety of individ-uals, and you get the experience of learn-ing from all sorts of leaders and leadership styles. Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya, for me, is a place to belong, a place to grow, and a place to become better.

The one thing that all youth have is the abil-ity to make mistakes. Making mistakes and discovering our weaknesses aren’t inher-ently bad, they can be our teachers. When we fall our brothers can pick us up, brush us off, and make sure we learn from the

mistakes, with the full confi dence that we would be willing to provide them the same help. The mistakes we make, the follies we exhibit, and the corrections that we make to fi x ourselves defi ne us. It is how the soul and spirit grows stronger. It is how we get closer to Allah. Step by uncertain step we grow up, and each step of the way Khud-dam-ul-Ahmadiyya is there making sure we have a place to belong, a place to be ourselves and to learn who we are. When I would exhibit anger, in my young mind it would always feel like a righteous fury. In-toxicating, and thoroughly corruptive. It is only with the help of others that I was able to realise the errors in my judgement. So quick was I to condemn another, I did not pause to consider that perhaps they made an innocent mistake. Perhaps the situation was influenced by something outside of their control. Perhaps I should learn to for-give. Perhaps I should try to make things right. These follies and growing pains can serve as an excellent tool to bring us clos-er to Allah. In our own self interest we can pray to have our weaknesses fi xed. At the fi rst step of opening our heart we can pray to have the situation resolved. At another step we can pray that all involved are guid-

food for the less fortunate, go out there and build friendships and the bonds of brotherhood, go out there and greet oth-ers with blessings and a smile. Where you fall ask others to help you back up, where others fall extend a hand to build them back up. Where you fi nd weakness in yourself ask Allah for forgiveness and for the ability to change because “Na-tions cannot be reformed without the reformation of the youth.”

ed righteously and for the benefi t of all. By being the organisation to give me a place to be, things to do, and opportunities to learn Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya helped bring me closer to Allah. Where would I be without this, where might my soul have gone?

This is my Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya. I have a place to improve myself, my community, my spirit and soul. A need for belonging is met, the inherent desire to be a part of something greater is fulfi lled here. It does not and may not always seem like it, but at its best this is what we can be: a force for change, a force for good. So go out there and help collect
