Our Lady asked for this Consecraon in the last apparion at Fama, when She appeared as Our Lady of Mount Carmel, holding the Brown Scapular out to the whole world. It was Her last moving appeal to souls to wear Her Scapular as a sign of consecraon to Her Immaculate Heart. Q. What is the Scapular? A. The Scapular is a small replica of the religious habit consisng of two pieces of wool connected by ribbons and worn under ones clothes so that one piece hangs in front and the other in back. Along with the Rosary and the Miraculous Medal, the Scapular is one of the chief Marian sacramentals. Q. And what is a sacramental? A. The difference between the sacraments and the sacramentals is: 1st, the sacraments were instuted by Jesus Christ and the sacramentals were instuted by the Church; 2nd, the sacraments give grace of themselves when we place no obstacle in the way; the sacramentals excite in us pious disposions, by means of which we may obtain grace. Q. Why do we wear the Scapular? A. We wear the Scapular to indicate that we place ourselves under the special protecon of the Blessed Virgin. We can tell to what army or naon a soldier belongs by the uniform he wears; so we can consider the Scapular as the parcular uniform of those who desire to serve the Blessed Virgin in some special manner. Q. Must the Scapular be blessed before wearing it? A. The first Scapular to be worn must be blessed and imposed by a Priest using the formula contained in the Roman ritual for recepon into the Confraternity of the Scapular. Q. FIRST READING Ezekiel 17:22-24 Ezekiel received his prophetic calling in 593 (four years after his deporta- tion to Babylon) and his first duty was to convince his fellow exiles that their expectation of an early return was in vain. Yahweh had decreed the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple and the captiv- ity/dispersion of the people of Judah. Seven years lat- er, Jerusalem was plundered, Solomon's Temple de- stroyed, and the city razed to the ground. The Fall of Jerusalem demonstrated the truth of Ezekiels pro- phetic mission. Ezekiel had to drive home the truth that the people were not suffering for the sins of their forefathers, but for their own sinfulness. If a man truly repents, he will be saved. With the Temple destroyed, the people were crushed and humiliated, they were on the verge of despair. Ezekiel offered words of comfort and hope. It is of this hope that we hear today. SECOND READING 2 Corinthians 5:6-10 Saint Paul continues from last week by teaching about our heavenly dwelling which is our ultimate destination and how we are to work to achieve it. This earthly tent we occupy is not our home; our home is in Heaven. We are just passing through this as pilgrims. Yet, we should concern ourselves with building up the earthly city. GOSPEL Mark 4:26-34 Jesus began teaching in parables shortly after appointing the Twelve. A parable is a wise saying or short fictitious story used by Jesus to set forth His Teaching. Parables may contain allegorical elements. Today we hear the parables of planting seeds. The Seed of the Kingdom of God on earth is something very tiny to begin with but it will grow to be a big tree. The seed planted in Peter and the Apostles, has set its roots in Rome, and has grown to be a big tree; one which encompasses the whole world; a great multitude which no man can number(Revelation 7:9).This growth also occurs in each soul. http://www.scborromeo.org Mass Intentions June 12 4:30 pm Vilasin T.s Birthday by Ginger N. PRIMERA LECTURA Ezequiel 17: 22-24 Ezequiel recibió su llamado profético en 593 (cuatro años después de su deportación a Babilonia) y su primer deber fue convencer a sus compañeros exiliados de que su expectativa de un regreso temprano era en vano.
