Mainstream music is the term used to describe the music thats popular among people of all ages, although mostly teenagers in the actuality. Currently, the most popular music genres are Pop, Pop-Rap, Rap and occasionally Electric. This seems to change as time goes by, which is proved by the popular music lets say 30-50 years ago, where bands like The Beatles dominated, or the early 90s, where Rock was very popular.Pop has always been a rather dominant genre in music, where many famous singers throughout the decades, for example Madonna, who was very popular during the 90s. Nowadays, the music industry is dominated by artists like Arianna Grande, Ed Sheeran, Maroon 5, Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Sam Smith, Chris Brown and many other artists, where most belong to the pop genre. The pop genre as a genre, pop music is extremely eclectic, often borrowing elements from other styles includingurban,dance,rock, Latinandcountry; nonetheless, there are core elements which define pop. Such elements include generally short to medium-length songs, written in a basic format (often theverse-chorus structure), as well as the common employment of repeated choruses, melodic tunes, andhooks. Basically, as the name Pop suggests, it means popular music, so there isnt a clear definition as to what the beat, instruments or vocals can be for it to be classified as pop. The reason I think why this genre is so popular is because its so energetic that the audience loves to sing along or find it very pleasing to listen to.Next is Rap, is amusic genreconsisting of a stylized rhythmic music that commonly accompaniesrapping, a rhythmic and rhyming speech that is chanted. It developed as part ofhip hopculture, a subculture defined by four key stylistic elements:MCing/rapping,DJing/scratching, break dancing, andgraffiti writing. One of the well-known rappers in todays music is Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Big Sean and others. Most of the lyrics in todays rap is mostly about making money or having sexual relations with women, but there are some rappers like Kendrick Lamar that rap about real problems going on with peoples everyday life. Also most rap songs have really good beats and awesome flows, which is why I think most teenagers like to listen to rap songs. In conclusion, Rap, Pop-Rap, and Rap are the most popular genres in todays music, for the reasons stated above. This is proved by sources such as Billboard Hot 100, which shows all the songs that are trending the most (meaning theyre popular) in numerical order, where you can see that most of the songs are either Pop or Rap. We think this is due to the fact that theyre really catchy, and in some of the songs, people can relate to, meaning theyll listen to more songs of the same artists hoping to find something they can relate to.We can say that this is all true. Whenever we turn on the radio, its always a pop song. Rap isnt really popular here in Cuenca, but it is in the United States, which is where most/all of the mainstream music is decided. We really enjoy listening to pop, since theyre catchy and usually have some sort of meaning they we can relate too. Finally, we agree with the mainstream music and will continue to listen more music of the same genre.
