Good afternoon, and welcome to WaltonLane for today’s Southern CombinationFootball League Division 2 Cup 1st Roundfixture against Ferring.We extend a warm welcome to the visitingplayers, officials and supporters fromFerring, and to today’s match referee,Kevin Dawson, from Horsham.Today’s fixture is the first of another cupdefence from a competition that we’veheld for the last two season’s, both finals ofwhich bring back some fond memories andtwo on-field ‘peaks’ in our recent history.In 2014/15 we beat local rivals, Sidleshamthree-nil in a pulsating final at Pagham,while last season, League champions, AFCVarndeanians were defeated two-nil atStorrington.Another home tie would be in the offering– against Jarvis Brook – should we be ableto get past Ferring this afternoon, and justtwo victories away from a semi-final berth,which are always enjoyable occasions forthe club, played at a neutral venue underlights.Upper Beeding ended our magnificent 100percent winning start to the League seasonduring our eleventh outing on Saturday –two headed goals from centre-half CallumFewell – his second with just ten minutesremaining - ensured we left with a pointagainst a determined home side.While we’ve started like a train this seasonand on paper, have a team who can matchany in our League on our day, make nomistake, there we will be more challengesto come in the weeks ahead with all ourmain rivals yet to play.It was a good weekend for our youth teamson Sunday, with both u18’s and u16’s

enjoying home victories in a double-headerhere. John Stead’s u18’s won 4-2 againstthe unusually-named Worthing BrazilianMasters Youth – including a hat-trick fromHarry Lidster; while Rick Kennett’s u16’swere masters on their day too – with acomprehensive 8-0 triumph againstRustington Otters, with senior managers,Andy Probee and Frank Antony interestedspectators on the touchline. We hope thefuture is a bright one!The reserves are without a game today,however are back here next Saturday (12th)in a local derby against US Portsmouth, soplease mark your diaries!Enjoy the game and thank you for yoursupport!

Ivy is in the Reception Class atBosham Primary School, and has two sisters– Olive (6), and Sylvie (3).Ivy’s favourite professional team is LeedsUnited, and she enjoys playing, singing,dancing, swimming, and eating fish andchips!
