Good afternoon, and welcome toWalton Lane for today’s SouthernCombination Football League Division Twofixture against Upper Beeding.We extend a warm welcome to the visitingplayers, officials and supporters for today’sgame, and also welcome today’s matchreferee, Neal Saxton from WisboroughGreen.Upper Beeding were the first side to takepoints off us this season in the reversefixture at the end of October, as we foughtback twice from a goal behind to take ashare of the spoils in a 2-2 draw – CallumFewell with both Robins goals that day.Upper Beeding arrive on the back of threewins from their last six, including a 14-0hammering of basement side Ferring onBoxing Day, with a narrow 3-2 defeat atJarvis Brook – who we host in the DivisionTwo Cup on 18th – last time out.A well organised side on the pitch and well-run club off it, they have settled back intolife in the (re-branded) SCFL since theirreturn via the West Sussex Premier in2015/16, under the guidance of manager,Josh Baldock – and will no doubt proveanother tough challenge this afternoon.Andy will look to shuffle the pack a littletoday with an enforced change at left-backowing to Pat Bulbeck’s one matchsuspension being carried over from lastweek’s postponement at Cowfold.Jake Lafferty is on holiday, Ricky Mullen onhoneymoon, with Louis Bell and MattDocherty both recovering from knocks –and with defender Ollie Gilbert also nursing

a long term knee injury, it’s likely anopportunity will present itself for fringe andreserve players to step-up.Last week was one of frustration for allfootballers across the county, with only ahandful of games going ahead – in DivisionTwo, Rustington’s two-nil home win overMontpelier Villa the only fixture that beatthe weather with all other pitches frozenoff.We do however have a cup semi-final tolook forward in the Sussex IntermediateCup – following our 5-1 win against AFCVarndeanians reserves a fortnight ago.Either fellow League rivals, Roffey orBognor-based West Sussex Premier Divisionoutfit, Newtown Villa await – they play theirfourth round game today, with the winnerslikely to determine the venue for ourmeeting in the last four on February 11th.Since the last notes, we are delighted towelcome Andy Gilbert to the club, taking onthe role of Match Day Secretary.Andy brings with him volunteer experienceat our neighbours, Chichester City and is avalued addition of our committee,essentially match day liaison between thereferee, visiting team players and officials,sponsors, league officials and theclubhouse. and 18th – however both u16’s and u18’sare in action here tomorrow.
