Senior Mixed Touch qualifies forNational Tournament 2015The Mahurangi College Senior Mixed Touch Teamhas had a successful start to 2015 after a fantasticcampaign in 2014 in which we placed 3rd at theNational Tournament. Kris Middleton, WilliamHaughey and Tamara Hagger were selected forthe NZ Secondary Schools Mixed Team. The team have competed this term in the NorthHarbour Secondary Schools competition at HatoPetera - remaining undefeated throughout thecompetition, winning the final 8-1 against OrewaCollege. This qualified them for the Regional Tournamentfor Zone 1 schools. The Regional competitionwas held on Saturday 21st March at Moire Parkin Massey. It was a long day for the players - with 5 gamesplayed with only 40 minutes between gamesto recover. The team is quite young but hassome good depth of experience and character -which especially showed in the hard-fought winagainst Massey. We came out top of the table -winning all of our games, 11-4 v Rodney, 11-2 vWaitakere, 10-4 v Te Kurua Kaupapa o Kaikohe,4-3 v Massey, 10-3 v Orewa. This qualified us infirst place for Zone 1 for the National SecondarySchools Tournament that will be held in Decemberthis year.We will be taking a break for a few months thenresuming training in the winter to prepare usfor the level of competition at this tournament.Congratulations to all the players and a massivethank you to Karl, John and all the parentsupporters for all of your time, effort and supportof the players throughout the season.Catherine Campbell
